Swedish Steel

So, if you had the time ,effort, and money, what would you restore? An F88/F10 or 111/142?..and what if there was a show for Swedish Steel…would you try the Meat Balls!

Hi m8,
These two are my favourites.any 1970’s truck mad kid would remember asg spedition and the other one is not only because of the colour scheme being identical to the first f10 I ever saw but for me the f series Volvo was in my opinion the most revolutionary truck design in my lifetime.

I could not agree more!! The F series in my eyes revolutionised the truck industry.

Iconic truck!!! Iconic road!!

that cab design led to the globetrotter, arguably the finest european long haul truck ever built.

when launched , the F10 looked like nothing we had seen before, but it wasn’t long until Scania threw down the gauntlet…

and oh boy did they come back…

you still see this old girl working…real Swedish Steel…

I think in a past Truck & Driver pole, the F88 was voted the most iconic truck …or was it the 141? :open_mouth:  , not that `i am biased

Being Mercman123 I should say the old mercs but I only get into them quite late. I used know they were very slugguish and the ones before they put turbos on them they had a really noice . But they were very reliable and the cabs were very basic but a nice place too work in . I know the first eps were crap but the ones on the power lines worked well i got on will them ok . Tony

Hey Steelboy F10,
All depends a bit how old (young) you are, don’t buy something you never saw at work in it’s days. And what is in you mind, don’t want a Sweed because they have their name.
I think as a Englishman you could buy British and think it’s the cheapest,I think you can buy them (second hand restored) and drive off immediately.
As a younger lad I should buy an F10/12 or an 112/142 if you wish Swedish. In my case, I chose for an F88 as I have driven the first model '65-'69 as one who was only 4 years old. And saw '50’s models at work in there days. Here a merc 1926 for sell of a friend.

Cheers Eric,

We havn’t in Belgium it isn’t a truck country, they are more hated as loved.I think we have the lowest oldtimer lorries in Europe.

Cheers Eric,

There`s still a very tidy F10 L registration earning its keep around Bradford for Stalleys i saw it today loading wool from North of England Wool

Often see a flat top up and down the M1, pusher axle, guess its an A reg, maroon or dark red, usually with a flat trailer…not sure who owns it?

Volvo really did get it spectacularly wrong with the engine in the 290 :exclamation: though those 240’s just went slogging on and on.this 290 died in Iraq and the 240 up front brought it back to gratz Austria for rebuild.seen here in belgrade :sunglasses: .
