Surrey truck v train

BBC reporting cement mixer crashed onto rail line in surrey and collided with train, people trapped.

Several people have been injured after a lorry fell from a bridge and landed on a train at Oxshott in Surrey this afternoon, Network Rail said.

The cement mixer fell from an overbridge landing on coaches of a South West Trains service in Oxshott in Surrey just after 3pm.
The spokesman said: "At around 1530 at Oxshott in Surrey the 1505 Guildford to London Waterloo service operated by South West Trains was halted when a cement mixer lorry came off an overbridge.
“The vehicle landed on some of the train’s coaches of an eight-coach unit. So far, there are no reports of fatalities though it is believed there are several people injured.”
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "Police were called to the line near to Oxshott rail station after a report that a lorry had come off of a road bridge and landed on carriages of a passing passenger service.
"The incident was reported to police at 3.33pm. Officers are currently on scene, along with paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Surrey Fire service.
“The train involved was a Guildford to London Waterloo service.”

I live about 2 miles away from there and it’s a relatively zb high bridge. :open_mouth:

Harry Monk:

That was quick Harry.

Harry Monk:

Looks more like he’s gone down the embankment rather than flown off the bridge or the train probably would have had the cement mixer still sitting there vertically through it’s roof like a aircraft.

Its gone through the bridge, they were showing the hole where it went through, the mixer landed cab down.

Fingers crossed.

Unbelievable how they’ve pulled it away so quick in that case and how relativley little damage it’s done. :open_mouth:

Actually it was the lorry, serious

diver been freed… and getting treated for injuries… hes a lucky boy

Looks as if the mixer bounced of the train onto the side, could have been much worse.

As I said it’s gone through the bridge but where it’s over the embankment not where it’s over the actual line or it would have been much worse.

Looking at damage to the train its been very lucky that the whole truck never hit the carrriage but maybe the end of the drum, hope they all recover ok.

Drivers probably fine, mixer drivers always wear their hi viz in the cab so that would of saved him from any harm.

Been over that vridge many times and its not the best and to be honest i have found people go over it far to fast concidering the sort off coditions controvercial i no but could it have been avoided i no accidents happen thats life but i was out with one of oour drivers double maning last weel and he frighten the daylights out of me we had a least 2 near misses onr guy actually pulled over and let us pass on a narrow lane we where that close sorry but i really do think people drive faster than they can think quiet often (not saying this was the case with bridge today ) and there lies the problem

It’s subject to a 30 limit and the sight lines don’t allow even that as you approach the lights so if they’re getting in bother there then they’d have to be suicidal nutters.

I spent 10 years as a ADI Driving instuctor and the advise i always gave peole was dont drive faster than you think and watching the way people drive these days i dont think they get it at all as i say the guy i was out with was scary

Well this sheds a new light on the post about bridge jumpers inconveniencing truck drivers!, lets hope he did’nt make the decision after being rumbled for the mixer man exposure story :open_mouth:

Joking aside I hope all involved are ok and they will be online giving me grief about my comments!!
sorry someone was going to do it so I could’nt resist
