Well this sheds a new light on the post about bridge jumpers inconveniencing truck drivers!, lets hope he did’nt make the decision after being rumbled for the mixer man exposure story
It would have been about the right time of day for some very tasty looking teenaged birds to have been getting off the train at the station. But he could have at least parked the zb wagon up before deciding to jump.
Looks like it was quite a high drop from the road, i know the driver is injured but he was maybe lucky the train broke the fall a bit - hope everyone gets through it well
I’ve used that road many times and there’s a sharp downhill before you turn onto the bridge, with traffic lights on the other end that you can’t see til you reach the bridge, and if your not careful there’s usually traffic waiting which you can’t see. I’ve seen many cars/trucks go flying down there only to see waiting traffic and slam on, think there’s been quite a few accidents there because of this but nothing as bad. They should put up warning signs about the traffic lights ahead as it might make a few people ease up
Luckily the train wasn’t traveling very fast or it couldve been alot worse.

But there is a rule that says you should’nt be driving at a speed greater than that which you can stop from safely in the distance which you can see to be clear ahead which is how we all survived around here when that section of road was subject to the national limit not 30 mph. .
road was wet/ damp by the look… not sure of raod layout but if on a slight bend then going too fast, same reason they are scrapes on the a14 nr the docks on the underpass bit… but some will always blame the road

There may be rules but that doesn’t mean people will follow them, judging by the amount of numpties we see on the roads everyday…

Anyone who can’t understand that rule is a ‘bit’ more than a ‘numpty’ more like total lost cause fruit and zb nutcase. In which case it would be safer to employ a trained monkey to drive the thing.
Wheel Nut:
I was impressed by how well that train stood up to the impact when that mixer bounced off it, rock solid in fact
If that truck was loaded and had gone through the bridge wall a few feet further along it would’nt have bounced off the train it would have gone through the roof and probably the floor as well and it would still probably be embedded in the train now.
it said on a news report that it was belived that the driver may have suffered a heart attack which caused him to come off the road…
I understand some of the comments ref steep hill, lights ect but I would have thought as a mixer driver and mostly working localish deliveries the driver may have had knowledge of the road and then maybe not driving like an idiot as some suggest…
luckily it seemed as though he was empty as if he was carrying a full load it could have been worse…

I don’t think that rule applies to trains unless an expert like an ADI qualified driving instructor knows differently?

But it does apply to those driving vehicles approaching the bridge too fast to be able to pull up in the distance which they can see to be clear ahead in the context of the full post. .Having said that no one actually knows the reasons yet as to why the truck left the road.
I have never driven a cement mixer, but have always been curious as to whether the mix rotating in the drum affects the handling of the vehicle. When I drove a milk tanker the effect was quite noticable, and when I stopped at traffic lights I could feel the milk sloshing up and down the trailer, which did not have baffles.

It’s not a steep hill but that type of medical reason would explain it and no one is blaming anyone unless it’s proved to be a case of bad driving anyway but in the circumstances it’s either that there’s a reason unconnected with the way the truck was being driven or it’s a case of someone driving like an idiot.Simples.The law says innocent until proven guilty and that’s no different in this case.
