Supertech fuel saver device trial

OK guy’s since Rikki mentioned this debate and subsequent voluntary trials in his column in CM, I guess Hammer and I had better do it sort of official :exclamation:

I received the Supertech device from a courier on Wed 5th November and taking a good “jeff duke” at it there’s no denying there’s not much too it or its hard to fit to the truck.
Its basically just a long metal tube with perforations and about the size of 3 Smarties tubes joined end to end,

What exactly is inside the tube Peter

As for fitting,
it seems its just a matter of dropping it in the diesel tank (if you’ve two like me,in the one that the draw comes from) and securing the metal stay wire to your filler neck in order to retrieve the device if changing vehicle etc.
I’m having a slight problem in that an “Optimeter” machine to measure the emmissions before I start using the device is hard to come by in “Norn Iron”
The local MAN dealer RK Trucks has one that came as part of the deal with a rolling road they installed but they’ve never been able to get the Optimeter part of it working right :exclamation: :exclamation:
I’m still checking out other options but if “push comes to shove” it will be done at the local test centre when the truck is booked in for its annual GTC test on the 21st January needless to say they wouldn’t do a wee “nudge nudge wink wink” optimeter only test for me before that. :unamused:

You will find they are filled with lead looking pellets, there was something like this about years ago developed in Russia called carbon flow used originally on fighter engines, I would not be surprised if it was carbon flow being rebranded, was about in the early nineties

Thanks Big truck,
This is certainly something that not only myself, but other titles in RBI are watching closely…

Talk about putting the pressure on :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused:

Best of luck with the trial Big Truck (not that you are going to need any luck). After two weeks of trial in Ballinalard transport in Tipperary they have stated that the supertech is working for them but they want to see more of an improvement in mileage. At the moment they have increased they mileage by just .2 of a mile per gallon. This does not sound like much but if they get .5 of a mile increase that would be a 5% saving on fuel.

There is a breakdown of the product on the web site telling you what in there and how it works.

Whats the RBI ?

Peter

Hammer will be doing the second trial for us on the supertech in his truck. We will be posting his supertech out on Monday so he should be going by the end of next week.

Peter

RBI = Reed Business Infomation
Owners of this website, Roadtransport.com, Commercial Motor, Motor Transport, and Truck & Driver magazines

I thought RBI stood for Rikki’s Beerfund Investment, but seemingly not :open_mouth:

I wondered how long it would be before some “numpty” posted some irrelevent load of tosh :exclamation: :unamused:

Hav’nt you noticed (POSTING RIGHTS SUSPENDED) Now joining motorways redfaced

I was gonna ask where mine was. Look forward to giving it a go.

Happy new year to all and best wishes for 2008.

As we are talking about Supertech please feel free to PRIVATE MESSAGE ME for any queries/prices .Please remember if buying from the UK you get the sterling exchange and also you don’t pay Vat @21%.

Peter

Edited, please dont use the forums to blatently advertise your prices !!  Rikki

I sent an e-mail to Hammer about the test he was doing and how it was going for him and his reply is encouraging to say the least.

This is what he said:
I tested the emissions when it went into the garage over Christmas and it was fitted after. I also changed the oil, oil filter and air filter.

I’ve only put a few tanks of diesel in so far but results have been quite encouraging so far. It’s doing about the average mpg for the whole of last year but weather conditions have been v.poor (high winds etc).

Keep up the good work Hammer and hope to hear more from you soon.

I would be more inclined to believe the results of this trial if he hadn’t also changed the air filter. If the old one had been on for a long time or was clogged up for any reason then changing that alone could potentially give you a noticeable improvement in fuel economy.

Paul

Well if you are an OD is that not something you should keep a eye on as well.No body I know drive’s around with an old clogged up filter,is this not doing damage to your truck. It seems that no matter what testing is going to be done some one is going to have something to say about the way it’s tested. At the end of the day I know this works we have proven it and we are also going by what everyone has asked for which is a member testing it in his truck. What else can we do to make people sit up and look.

but the trouble is, by changing the filters at the same time Hammer has ruined the trial, now we won’t know if any improvements are because of the Supertech or the new filters :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I’m wondering whether hammer knew his fuel consumption just after a service anyway
If he did, then he’d know of any extra improvement in consumption after a fair testing period, which could then be attributed to the new device.

All I’m saying is that I’m not so sure that the the test is completely compromised by the fitting of new filters.
TBF, I think the jury is out until hammer reports back…

This thread is hilarious.

I can’t believe you seriously think a

Its basically just a long metal tube with perforations

is going to make any difference to your fuel consumption. Do you not think that the manufacturer’s would already have this “device” fitted if it did? No, they won’t have thought of that will they !!! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

The only reason that Hammer has seen an improvement in his consumption is because he’s just changed his oil, oil filter and air filter. :unamused: :unamused: Anyone with even an ounce of knowledge about diesel engines knows that they like crystal clean oil and filters all the time otherwise the fuel consumption goes through the roof.

Time to wake up folks…

when i had my own trucks we told one driver we had fitted a fuel flow meter to his truck. his consumption got worse ■■

we told another driver we had not fitted one to his truck. in fact we had and his improved by over 1 mpg ■■?

its all in the mind.

So are we just wasting our time trying to show that this device works. What is it going to take to show that is does work.We are also testing the product with Limerick University (is this also a waste of time) to show fuel consumsion between two different cars doing the same runs with and without supertech fitted. This will be an official cert from a university. Will this be enough for people to start to use supertech.
