Tyler …your not a proper driver matey…not because you dont want to park up, not because you do the job properly…but the way you slag off other drivers, the way you talk about being in a tin can, being home with your loved ones…your in the wrong industry mate…transport is not a 9 to 5…its not an industry where you can decide when your gonna be home…its an industry that dictates to you…your the sort of fella who tells his missus …i
ll be home at such and such a time. and your missus makes sure that your dinner is ready, in this industry you are not finished till you turn the key in the front door.
My wife and my family grew up without me, learnt to be independant, cos that was the industry i was in, many times i got back to the depot, only to be sent out again…but i enjoyed every minute…i dont think you do…its not a personal rant at you…its just the truth as i see it.wrong on so many levels fella.
and dave it’s you that needs to reread the start of this, see if you’re happy on how you’ve come across? tyler may of bit, but it took some time and plenty of what you’ll have perceived to be clever comments. reread it, i have and it looks like it’s you that hasn’t read posts properly. on a side note, i’m 2 years younger than tyler at 32 and class myself as very experienced!
pavaroti was first in the silly comments, as well as needing to reread tylers 1st post as he’s made himself look stupid.
44 tonne ton doesn’t fair too good either, telling someone they’re “talking bollox though” after plotting a route with only city / town names, you don’t need a lot of experience to know that these can be big places, sure it gives you a rough idea but its far from accurate. nowhere near accurate enough for me to tell someone who’s done it they’re talking bollox. then lists how he works, which is ironically similar to how tyler works, you know carving the job up as some call it!! you couldn’t make it up!! but he still stands by his comments, why■■?
come to think of it, dave has also mentioned how on occasion he’s doing the work of 2 men as they wouldn’t do a n/o, works hard and doesn’t string it out (wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall when they’re on their cushy double manned run going on about dave carving the job up!!) fricking genius!!
stevie

Pretty ridiculous too how you keep saying people are being abusive to you Dave , when they are not . People or a person were abusive to you at the weekend, since then you have had discussion. But since not all of it is swinging in your favour you yet again go back down to the level of petty name calling and the odd snide comments mixed in with a lot of these
You yourself said it is only a forum but still tend to take it too seriously and do the above. Not really cricket is it Dave, it proves well that you can stick your oar into someone elses “stuff” and get your back up if they retaliate but you also don’t like it if someone does the same to you. Reap what you sow

Beleive it or not but over the many many years the industry has moved on and can now easily cater for people that don’t want to be away all week or every other night. I gave that up 6 years ago and get home everyday working for a company that runs it’s fleet pretty much 24/7. Day men - Night men.
.i`ll be home at such and such a time. and your missus makes sure that your dinner is ready, in this industry you are not finished till you turn the key in the front door.
You say that like it’s a bad thing and it isnt . I don’t know about anyone else but a shift is over as soon as my paperwork is signed off.
My wife and my family grew up without me, learnt to be independant, cos that was the industry i was in, many times i got back to the depot, only to be sent out again…but i enjoyed every minute…i dont think you do…its not a personal rant at you…its just the truth as i see it.
As above , doesn’t have to be that way anymore , times and the industry have changed and can cater for just about everyone. Just a case of changing job or shift, really is that simple.
dave, i dont understand…one thread you praise me…the next one slag me off…but i am thick skinned, and can take any abuse thrown at me…
When i talked about proper drivers…i never mentioned in my thread about sleeping in trucks or tin cans or whatever…what i meant to say was i loved this industry, and was prepared ( and i did ) to sacrifice many things whilst in this industry…there are many drivers who have been divorced, separated, used, and abused because of this industry, lost loved ones, etc…but we stuck to it…i personally couldnt wait to get up for work the next morning…or for my next trip…because its in my blood, i loved and worshipped this industry, but back in the 60`s when i started we had proper bosses, who had been and done the job, you couldnt pull the wool over their eyes, as you can today…planners have a role to play, but time and again i hear drivers talk about them because they havnt got the knowledge, most have never seen inside a truck, let alone try and control one…their ideal is to push pallets, and they dont care how…
Everyone in this industry has a part to play, and i dont slag them off… we are a big cog in a giant wheel, without us the planet stops…end of…but over the years i have played my part, did my bit, and sacrificed a great deal…but i was proud to be a trucker ( lorry driver ) for the youngsters.

I wasnt slagging other drivers off its their choice its just i wouldnt wanna sleep in a metal box but it doesnt mean i dont love driving. I didnt say it was a 9-5 job, mines a 4.45am - 14.30 ish job. Most of the time on my run i can ring the other half & say when i’ll be home & yes i do get dinner made & whats wrong with that??
My family is my life & i wouldnt want them to get used to me not being there as life is too short. Family always comes first with me with work second & im proud to say that & if that means im not a proper driver then thats fine I’ll leave the proper driving to all you proper drivers.Your saying any truck driver who does days & has a rough idea when they will be finished is not a proper trucker. So all the supermarket drivers etc are not proper drivers then.■■? I think some people may disagree with that?? You can be a proper driver as you put it & still enjoy your home life.
So ‘tyler4164’ you don’t half bite easily

Just like you carved the job up at your placeIts not a sin we all do it

You’re not very bright are you so let me illuminate things for you! My post about how I do the job was implying there were corners being cut by Tyler to get the work done on that time. Such as not carrying out proper walk round checks, exceeding speed limits, not booking off vehicle for defects as it might hold him up, working through breaks etc. All so he can get back inside his guaranteed 48 hours and feel he has nicked something from the job. I’m working for a company at the moment who do multi-drop work like Tylers. I’m shunting at night and loading the vehicles. Almost every one looks like it’s come back from a war zone and a substantial minority have unreported defects. Why? Because they’re tear arsing about so they can get finished inside their guaranteed hours! In my opinion, and I’ve been a driver for 27 years, there’s no doubt in my mind that Tyler is being economical with the truth. And just to add a little weight to my argument, when I was younger, I was Tyler!
As for your comment about me carving up the job you need to explain that one to me?
[/quote]
Your not very bright either, first your telling me how i cant do a run in a certain time when ive done it & you havnt. I always do a proper walkround check thankyou very much & if theres a problem it does get reported, also any defects that oocur during the shift do get reported at the end of the shift . If my day is made longer for that reason then so be it…it happens. Dont care if im over my 48hrs as i get paid time & a half if i do go over. I dont tip on breaks & i dont make a habit of speeding as i dont need to rush on this run. I dont need to feel like ive knicked something from the job.
Unless you have facts then i suggest you keep your opinions of me to yourself. I would never think of driving an unsafe truck just to get home & i resent the fact your accusing me of all these things. You dont know me

I’m going to do you a favour by not making you look stupid, go and reread it, the lot, don’t skim it, take it in. Well I aploogise ‘truckyboy’ coz I’m not sure in which other thread I have slagged you off ? I have done a search and can only find this thread that I have replied to you personally and I certainly wasn’t having a go at you.
The only thread I have recently contributed to as well as you was the one about ‘falling asleep at the wheel’ which was only a comment about my own personal experience.
All the best

You can’t kid a kidder!
Here’s my Max Bygraves moment, “I wanna tell you a story!”
Some years ago I worked for a good company,(there were still some left then!)we were contracted to deliver milk to the various supermarkets. We had the lot, good kit, good wages, decent shift pattern, 4 on 4 off and a decent gaffer. We were hourly paid at a good rate and on time and a half after 40, not common in this industry.
All our deliveries were scheduled and the running times were mostly about right, with a half hour window either way. It didn’t always run like clockwork, rarely in fact as other delivery vehicles, including the customers own, rarely kept to schedule so delays were common. No problem, call the gaffer and let him know and the stock reply was sit with it but keep an eye on time. Fair enough, he’s happy and I’m earning!
One night, on a run I hadn’t done before, I arrived at one store ahead of schedule, not unusual, nothing in front so I was expecting to go straight in, which is what usually happened. The back door man came out ranting and raving,“You’re too early, rant, rant, rant, I’m not tipping you until rant, rant, rant, etc, etc,”,
I told him that “It wasn’t a problem for me just give me a knock when you’re ready ,” and I proceeded to calm the bloke down. Curious as to what had upset him so much, I asked why he was so wound up. He told me the other fella who had been doing the run was always turning up well early just when it was his time to go on break and hassled him to get tipped, or when he had other vehicles there and was always trying to push in front. As I continued on the run it became a familiar story at other drops. If I’d been the back door man I’d have ■■■■■■ him off until I was ready for him but I wasn’t really bothered as it didn’t affect me.
Until one day the decent gaffer asked me why ROB (are you there ROB? wish I could remember your surname you ■■■■!) was doing the run quicker than me? Because he’s cutting the job up I replied. Could I not do the same? I asked him if I had ever been personally responsible for any late deliveries? Not to his knowledge he replied. Have I been doing the job the way it was shown to me when I started. Well, yes. Does ROB YOU ■■■■, have every corner knocked off the brand new unit? Err, he does have a little knock or two. And me? No, I don’t have a problem with your accident rate. Which way is it to be then gaffer? It never really went away as I used to get little comments from the gaffer now and then about doing the round in reverse gear etc. So now words were needed with ROB THE ■■■■ to point out the error of his ways, you can do what you like as long as it doesn’t affect me, now it was. ROB THE ■■■■ as it turned out only wanted 8 or 9 hours or whatever so that’s why he rushed. I suggested he would be better suited to a job that worked those hours or do the job properly. Bottom line, as a gaffer would I have employed him as a driver? No because he was slap dash in everything he did because he was rushing.
But you know what they say “What goes around, comes around!” I bumped into him a couple of years ago. He was doing the same work but now on for Poles Czechs Lithuanians. On a day rate. With at least twice the number of drops. For at least 15k less than I used to earn on the old firm! And he wasn’t a happy bunny! ROB, you really are a ■■■■!
