Sunday Afternoon Gloom

Does anybody else get a feeling of gloom settle over them at about this time on a Sunday afternoon as they realise the weekend is all but over? :stuck_out_tongue:

Not usually. The best thing about working nights is the staying up late with a couple of malt whiskies on a Sunday night.

However, tomorrow I’m on days (first time I’ve driven a lorry in daylight hours for over five years!) so I’m off to bed in a minute. :frowning:

Normally I go nuts if I get given a rest day, or even a day on the yard to bring my hours down.

Not this weekend, full of cold, and the thought of not having to set my alarm for 01.30 for a run to Glasgow is a massive weight off my mind.

But if the fella that’s going to Norwich in mine even so much as leaves me with a fly on the windscreen … Lol

Not this Sunday Harry as I’ve just done my 5 day stint including an extremely rare Saturday night out and now I’ve got 3 days off so sat here watching Real Madrid v FCB with some tins to hand.

Sundays are ok as I do fri-tuesday so sundays the hump of the week lol

I get that feeling every second week when I have to do the compulsory 4 hours Saturday morning, that just screws your weekend big time. Dont want to spill my time away, but I will be glad when I retire in five years time!

i work Thursday to Monday so Sunday is mid week to me. Even better since i switched from Tuesday to Thursday. My weekend now starts at 2/3am Tuesday instead of 8am Wednesday so it is now a day earlier and 7 hours longer :sunglasses:

No gloom here, only work one Monday a month, back in on Wednesday and i enjoy my job.

When I was tramping I would start been a miserable sod from about 6pm onwards,in fact it was putting a strain on my relationship knowing I would not be home till at least Friday and the fact I hated my job so much.
Since moving jobs and doing local days I’m not so bad and my home life is better for it

The worst Sunday night gloom was my school days the theme tune to last of the summer wine,Howard’s way, poirot etc used to mean bath hair wash and school in the morning :frowning:

How well I remember that rising dread! I despised almost every aspect of school, yet loved learning. Aside from the fundamentals, I would say that I largely taught myself. Guess that illustrates the huge failings (at least for me) of yesteryear`s education ā€œsystemā€. One of the finer memories from my early youth was when I skipped out of those gates for the very last time, and gave it the 2 digit farewell salute.

X2

Yes Harry I do, love my job but Sunday afternoons about 3ish a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  cloud seems to appear, always has.

Harry your gaffer sounds a right miserable git putting you through that gloom every Sunday.

I did a six till 2 Sunday morning and today feels like Tuesday, so I didn’t really get that feeling this weekend, but to tell you the truth I hate Sunday nights… you always wonder what the week holds :unamused:

Nope, I’d say it’s the high point of my week, better-than-rate despite it being my first few hours (my working week starts on sunday) and knowing there won’t be any deductions from it. Roads are a lot quieter, day seems to pass a lot quicker, jobs are usually cushy ones as well. Its also the shift of the week when I am most flexible on start and finish times, because I live my weekend time mostly on ā€œsaturday eveningsā€ if you like.

I keep any drinking to Saturday nights as well… I don’t pick up many last-minute ā€œearly sunday startsā€ let’s say… Sunday PM starts suit me best here of course!
At the other end of my scale - Thursday night into Friday morning is real depressing… Everyone is driving like a nutter, more so than usual, especially if I’m on the M25 or A12 - two roads I really don’t like first thing in the morning in any case. Add that to my bio clock giving me some serious sugar downgrade regardless of how much sleep I’ve had… I like to be finished by 6am the rest of the time, but if I’ve been lumbered with a late-finsher like a Palletliner run, then that would complete the ā€œsmack of miseryā€ that is friday morning rush hour to me. :frowning:

Luckily for me, I’ve not had to do a pallet run since last august. :stuck_out_tongue:
