Quick update on this from our local rag

The simple point is the police should not be allowed to brake the law to see if we are breaking the law.YOU CAN’T INFORCE THE LAW BY BREAKING THE LAW YOUR INFORCING.
I think you mean Enforce

Quick update on this from our local rag
Quote from that article:
A CRACKDOWN on law-breaking by lorry drivers using Suffolk’s roads has proved successful after nearly 170 offences were identified and dealt with.
…
There were 120 seatbelt offences, which resulted in £60 fixed penalty notices for drivers, and 23 mobile phone offences, for which drivers received £60 fixed penalty notices and three points on their licences.
So, the vast majority of the poxy 170 ‘crimes’ that expensive operation caught were ‘no seatbelt’

Look at as they do, from a business perspective. They will have borrowed the truck for nothing, so for two coppers’ wages and a tank of diesel they’ve made 170x £60, which is £10,200. I wish I could get £10,200 for a five-day double-manned job running solo and with no finance payments, road tax costs etc.
It’s a nice little earner for them.

Get those evil scum off the road, how dare they drive whilst still being able to see round the wardrobe doors mirrors the toilet attendent designed at Volvo/MAN etc.
Sod me, is that what its come to, nicking bloody truck drivers for no seatbelt and claiming it as some sort of victory in road safety, i bloody give up.
I simply couldn’t do this if i was a copper, there’s a level you can’t sink below and they seem to have breached it.

Officers patrolled the A14, A11 and A12 dual carriageways using a lorry unit, to give them a better view of drivers in their cabs, and motorbike units to intercept offending truckers.
You forgot the motorbike interceptors.
I worked out roughly wages @ £100 per day per officer + approx £200 +/- diesel for the truck based on 8hrs…
Then multiply that by 5…

With pension, holiday pay & national insurance contributions you could probably double that £100 to £200 per day!!

Ahh, but they caught 120 truckers without seatbelts on … so it was all worth it

It’s just wrong on every level, I couldn’t give a toss if it cost nothing at all this is simply Big Brother tax collecting!!!
Ross.
For anyone in the northwest, beware the plain red mercedes actros which is patrolling the M6, A580(east lancs), M57, M62 and M58.
Its on a 60 plate followed by 5 series BMW .
And no it,s not limited.

You did a quote like we’re supposed to support your ‘educated’ view, yet can’t even spell enforce and are trying to tell cops how to do their job.
Can’t see the problem.
Break the law, get caught, end off.
We wear seatbelts to save our lives, end off…
As for driving whilst on the mobile?, well, I hate it and it should be punished severly.

But the Law should be there to protect citizens from the actions of others, not to protect citizens from their own actions. If I choose to take the enhanced risk of dying in an accident by not wearing a seatbelt, then it’s my life and my decision, surely?

I agree with this 100%.
I drove service busses where the driver still doesn’t wear a seatbelt (as far as I know), they’re involved in a LOT more accidents than trucks, cars just cut them up for fun, yet still ok not to wear a seatbelt.
The chances of getting injured in a truck unless you rolled it, and the seatbelt making any difference - ie into the back of a truck at 50mph, seatbelt not going to make any difference - are bloody slim to none existant.
I’ve been done for no seatbelt in my car, I’d recently had a really bad asthma attack that hospitalised me, and the seatbelt felt really tight, they’re still chasing me for the fine money as I explained the situation, they asked if I had an exemption cert, I said no because it’s a temporary situation and don’t want it to effect my professional licence, so they did me. Wrote an appeal, got refused, so refused to pay it on grounds of common sense.
The country really is OTT on rules and regulations, like hi vis or steelies, it should be a case of no hi vis or no steelies and no liability for any injury these could’ve prevented. Hi vis jackets are hardly a shield of steel. And you have to wear them IN your cab at some places, like a 50’ long 14’ high truck with headlights on isn’t visible, but a 2’ hi vis, thank ■■■■ you were wearing that, nearly didn’t see you then
There’s nothing I like more than scraping my knee on the floor at over 100mph, it’s totally legal and the police even come along to check for the odd stolen bike but always stay all day to watch.
The very same ‘police persons’ might knock on my truck door whilst I’m waiting at a red light talking on my phone, if the engines running he’ll ‘nick’ me, if the engine is switched off & the key is in the ignition, can he still have me hung, drawn & quatered?? I’d really like to know as the difference to other road users safety must be massive!!
Ross.
PS, I was onlt doing about 65mph in the pic’, still enjoyable though:)

There will be a time, not too far in the distant future, when the Health & Safety Executive and the Police decide that you can no longer be allowed to do that, because motorcycling is more dangerous than sitting indoors watching propaganda on the television.
This is the problem. Not just one new law, one new petty rule, one more item of fancy dress that we are required to wear, but the insidious drip-drip-drip of total mind control.

It happened in Switzerland!! I doubt it’ll happen here as there’s too much TV cash floating about!! (I hope!!!)
Ross.
PS, Why don’t taxi drivers need to wear seatbelts■■?
Tfft, I thought I was alone in seeing this distopian ■■■■■■■ nightmare being unveiled by the day.
