Stupidest bit of info/story during DCPC thread

lewis1991:
As I’m typing this I am in a CPC class watching a slide show about a website the instructor made while he was at college…all he talks about is himself and his bus driver career. Earlier he was teaching us about licence categories and what we are entitled to drive

Tell him you heard from a collegue at work that his class was audited and the auditor told him that they are now sending under cover auditors to a large percentage of all classes as they found most of them not to follow the syllabus then tell him the guy in the corner seems to be taking a lot of notes and see what happens after lunch…

Right now he’s showing us a 1 hour documentary about the painter Van Gough. I’ve got one more day to do tomorrow and then I’m going to pretend this week never happened.

I will tell you for nowt he is getting paid about £200 for today. At least if you fall asleep you wont kill anyone.

That makes sense, I think he had his ear cut off for to many overspeeds.

Cotswoldcrunch:
Todays’ gem was “adblue is pig ■■■■”
followed closely by “you could just ■■■■ in your adblue tank.”

As long as the warning light goes off…

A driver was sat in a services area and was approached by VOSA and was asked to take a look at something on his trailer, he replied “sorry I can’t, I’m on a break” so they fined him for being sat at the steering wheel !!

She would not back down on this story and when challenged became very specific with details as though details would give her story more credence :open_mouth:

Yet another stupid myth. You should ask her what happens if there’s a driver and a drivers mate in a day cab. If the drivers mate was to sit in the drivers seat he could be classed by plod as in charge of the vehicle so they can’t swap seats. Does that mean the driver has to sit on the pavement for his 45?

Started already here, “a driver at our place got a £60 on the spot fine, for only having 10 mins other work @ start of shift, instead of 15”!

Do I get a bonus then? I usually do up to an hour on other work at the start of every shift, so at £60 for 5 mins I could get rich!

According to the DCPC trainer I had yesterday (TM BTW) that the WTD says you have to have 20 minutes break within the first 6 hours of your shift.

We all said, Bollicks! It’s 15 and everyone knows that.

He said that we had been told wrong.

However, this was told to us at 1530 and I had pretty much switched off at 0930 so I didn’t really care!

That’s a long attention span for DCPC training.

Well, I’ve been on so many inductions, training courses and DCPC courses, I consider myself an expert at the “Lights on No one home” look!

viking7000:
‘…what nuggets of tripe you guys have had to listen to from tutors … during a DCPC course…’

That ‘…the time will go faster if we all engage with the other boys nicely…’

It’s not:

1 What I need or want to hear on a compulsory ‘working on a rest day’, box-ticking exercise

2 What I voted to hear after electing a national representative at a General Election where the hidden truth of the DCPC wasn’t breathed unto us by Lib/Lab/Green/Consters

3 True: I’m a C+E driver FFS, managing any confrontation that, eg., a bit of silence might bring in is a doddle compared to the primary job done every day - yet according to the EU it’s me that supposedly need the wisdom of ‘training’ as we all see, ie, ‘professional’ cabbies on hand held phones so regularly it’s almost an occupation in itself :exclamation:

4 Without challenge, ie to check it out in conjunction with a no-notice ‘sponsored silence for charity’ day. :bulb: Now there’s an idea :bulb:

Perhaps the most pointless bit of info is when everyone introduces themselves. Who cares?
Or maybe whenever the toothless veteran decides to induce everyone into a coma of boredom with his recollections of the middle east, witnessing a spectacular fatal crash etc…
.If you can understand his mumbling.

I remember the first session I did. Fair credit to the guy he did present well, was likeable and generally knew his stuff but a couple of gems stood out that we pulled him up on :

  • “must take 30 mins of breaks before 6 hours for WTD.”
  • “no legal requirement to keep logs when driving a truck under domestic rules.”

The official VOSA handbook that we all had a copy of on our tables actually states quite clearly what the actual rules are for both of the above. He did back down and apologise on the WTD break stuff once the actual wording from the VOSA booklet was relayed to him line by line, but he’s “still sure” he’s right on the domestic rules one as “I definitely read it somewhere but will double check”. I should add to the last one before some smart Alec points it out that this was already taking into account the number of hours worked, the type of work and the distant from base.

He also said that you couldn’t change the local time display on the stoneridge and siemens tachos with your card in but that’s another load of ■■■■ as you most certainly can.

None of the above affect me personally in any way so it’s no skin off my back, but what does grate with me is they are preaching this stuff to otherwise lesser/(un)informed drivers as Gospel when it’s not and could potentially get the drivers into a whole load of ■■■■ over it. They should be 100% correct in everything they teach or not be allowed to do it.

Forget what is law we give you the latest guidence from visa and the other gem there fitting tachos to all vans under 3.5 tonnes very soon

I do. If you are at the course I was last on, that can use up valuable minuted in my 7 hours.
