no i didnt say it makes me special did i?WHAT just because this driver is in a hurry its perfectly ok for him to tailgate me is it?get a life will ya,theres no excuse for the way he was driving, end of.and if you are making excuses for this type of driving a bigger fool you mate.
If it doesn’t make you special why drop the ‘‘ADR’’ line in nobody gives a flying [zb]. If you read what im actually writing you will see no justification for tailgating. Maybe you’re just a right thicko that is slow on the uptake?
If you had wrote s/c instead of motorway in your opening post i wouldn’t have even bumped my gums in this thread.
Im bored of your greeting now.
Because he asked me if i was a proffesional driver thats why i mentioned the adr.i couldnt give a ■■■■ about who or what you are either mate so do one.you come across as its all my fault for not getting out of the way of this pathetic driver etc etc and all the other ■■■■■■■■ thats come out of your mouth.does it matter what road im on,does it make it ok for this driver to tailgate me???NO it doesnt so do one.
Bloody hell there are some real muppets on here probably the same muppets that bully other drivers and do not take responsibility for their own actions.
This is called a professional forum but from some of the posts it really makes you wonder how these people can drive a truck safely with their bad attitudes.
Truth is that probably they cannot.
Frankly the OP is not that credible as the number of changes made from the outset, the increasing hostility to an alternative view (even when I’ve seen only 1 post that I would consider to condone the alleged tailgating in any way) and when he claims to have a class 1 and ADR is unable to take defensive measures to protect those who, one would imagine, would be more precious than any cargo he might move in a professional capacity. Much of this stinks as Alix suggested on page 1.
Just for the record, so it is clear, so there is no lack of clarity IN MY OPINION TAILGATING IS WRONG
well i dont think the car was driving at all
i think the car was static and parked up in a dimly lit layby
the lorry was parked very close behind the car
the lorry driver could see that the car driver has an attractive woman with him (the wife)
so the lorry driver starts flashing his lights
and you know what happens next dont you
cos it happens all the time
doesnt it , yes , you know it does
dont you
in fact i am pretty sure that 1 or 2 of the posters on here who take the high lord almighty stance against tailgaters
are pesistant light flashers towards cars in laybys

Type in west moor in google. Have a look at the maps and tell me what sort of a1 it is.
I stand to be corrected but dont the A1 go sc near to scotland?
dazamc1983:
ill start this post by saying how very informative this forum is for information regarding all driver issues regarding safety out on the road. Now afew weeks ago i was driving southbound on the A1 motorway near to west moor with my dad and two year old son when a what i can only describe as a bloody idiotic and wreckless driver tailgated my car for about 5 miles. Not only did this stupid driver tailgate but had the nerve to flash at me for about a mile of that distance also. ill not give out details of name or company but you want to be bloody ashamed of yourself, driving a 44 tonne killing machine so close with no chance whatsoever with safety of anybody in your mind.i emailed this company regarding this driver and got a email back off them saying that due to an informed conversion with the said driver he was merely trying to warn me of a brake light that was out.what a load of rubbish my lights were absolutely fine and god knows how he knew i didnt even brake once if anything i was trying to get out of his way.i just hope this driver wakes up and pays attention with his driving or there will be casulaties where this driver is concerned.no doubt about that.
quick question, where is west moor?
West Moor is in Tyneside.
A1 there is a DC by google maps. I checked further up the A1 which is miles outside West moor and still shows DC. So that shoots the SC thing out of the window.
well im afraid its a single carriageway road mate,i should know i was on the ■■■■ thing.do you not think i would of got out of this idiots way?
i just asked a simple question as to where West Moor was, i never said anything about what type of road it was
but, as has already been said, the A1 in that area is more than 1 lane each way, so, are you sure that you were actually on the A1? or, were you further away from West Moor than you thought?
No not at all west moor is a turn off,off the A1.it was a single carriageway trust me.if i could of got away from this driver i would of simple as that.
Now he’s not even on the A1M,A1 daul, A1 sc, but on a turn off also called the A1. I reckon it’s time he re-posted with a totally different story, getting his facts straight about where he was exactly. Doesn’t sound like a vocational licence holder to me when he doesn’t know where he’s supposed to be be when this “incident” happened, or what type of road he was on.
We all know that tailgating’s not on, but this just doesn’t ring true.
I accept your point, the truckers an idiot & a menace, we get it.
He could have been tailgating our mother or our wife with the kids in the car, there is no excuse for it. This type of thing does happen regularly unfortunately from the ■■■■■■ brigade.
Now, after all the discussion and in hindsight with preperation for the next time this happens, would YOU have done anything differently?

Do you really think every vocational license holder is capable of taking defensive measures in any given situation.
There are plenty drivers who hold an LGV licence and have had little or no experience.
I know because I trained a lot of them when they were in the armed forces.
Anyway even if the story is true or not tailgating is a regular occurance on our roads now and as usual on this forum posters try to switch the blame any way they can.
It is pathetic.
just to add further, today coming down route 3 heading towards the M5 … (in Sydney) not UK, i have a 18t merc rigid tailgating me, less than 3 metres behind in a 70km zone.
i just let him get on with it then I had to brake harsh and I see tyres lock up and swerve, I didnt care and was not rushing I was in a [zb] freightliner roadranger, so there are male gentials all over the world.

yeah and if it was your mother, wife or kids how would you feel towards this so called driver mate?bloody angry like me i suppose?the thing people arent getting i couldnt do anything but stay at the speed and position i was in because if i overtook i was facing oncoming traffic, slowed down this truck was not stopping and would defo smash into my car.what i was trying to say but everyone thought i was a just another car driver trying to stir the ■■■■ was why do proffesional drivers of all kinds im not just saying truck drivers ok even car drivers for that sake why drive so dangerous in the first place?its peoples lives at risk if anything should or does go wrong, simple as that.but its not a very nice experience when anybody tailgates you and i think it would be a good idea to penalise these responsible for doing it.

Personally I think you are a ■■■…all you had to do was speed up a tad to 60 mph, you ain’t breaking the law and you would soon pull away from the Pratt leaving him in the distance. But no you are one of the many jobs that cruise at 45-50 mph and cause massive tailbacks and frustration for all!

Well i think you should shut the hell up,you dont know me so how can you judge me.how could i of sped right up when there vehicles up ahead of me,i couldnt pull away from this driver or i would of.do you think i like vehicles tailgating me is that what your implying?suppose your one on them drivers that think its alright to drive like that are you?

Why are some drivers arguing about minor points? They cannot justify reckless driving in this or any other case.
Tailgating in ■■■■ dangerous and the sooner the law is brought in to stop it the better and safer it will be for all road users.
Professional drivers?
Solly i couldnt agree more with your comment.these drivers should get punished for being ■■■■ dangerous on the roads.theres no need for it,isnt it better to be late and get there safe themselves than someone losing there life■■?

As a very dear relative used to say: “Better to get there in peace rather than pieces”, so yes I agree with you 100%.
Stay safe.
TAILGATE/TAILBOARD…in my day it meant the little piece of wood/metal, at the rear of the vehicle, and held on with a chain either side, and used to drop down, was very handy when we did deliveries, for we could tell them, sorry, tailboard delivery only so i guess that Tailgating is being as close as a tailboard/gate, roughly 12 inches from the vehicle in front… …what are your definitions to Tailgating
