How would you go about strapping this lot? Got no internals, and buggered if I’m crawling about on top of them!

5 ratchets holding each layer then a couple going up and over maybe?
No pallets and no room to get the forks in, that lot must have been hand-balled on there so could have been strapped-as-you-go.
But, it looks like scrap so should really be in a scrap metal tipper trailer, did they give you the right load
I’d be refusing to take it. The top right hand corner of that photo is enough to prove they just didn’t give a toss when they loaded it and its all going to slide all over the shop like a right sod on corners and roundabouts. I doubt even the most cowboy drivers would take that load “as is”.
Each individual vertical stack needs a strap. If they’ve not got any “airport” steps or a gantry then you can’t strap it as not only because its against HSE rules to climb up there and they’d get fined £1000s if HSE found out drivers were whether or not anyone got hurt going on how much Hygena got fined just because we didn’t use steps getting on and off the back of box trailers, but you still wouldn’t be able to pop a strap over. To strap it from the ground they’d have to remove at least the top layer of appliances.
So the options you give them are to provide 30 odd ratchets and straps and either a gantry/steps or remove the top layer or to remove it, palletise the load with the appliances banded to pallets or it isn’t going anywhere.
I’m with Martin though…should be a scrap metal tipper trailer load.
You could shut the curtains then throw the straps over the roof and strap it that way.
But I’d use at least 15 straps doing it that way.
have to agree with conor, I would be saying not taking it.
Well since some of our “expert” members think it ok to take freely stacked kegs of beer without strapping it down “as long as the curtain meets a certain british standard” then you’ll no doubt get told at some point on this thread that you should have just taken it
Personaly id have taken one look at it and not even bothered hooking it up till every single row was strapped. The way its loaded means that id not feel safe going round corners unless every row was secure so for me its a strap for every row or im leaving it here.

That was how I was going to do it, but none of my straps are long enough to go over the roof! They were loaded in stacks, by a flt with paddles, so incremental strapping was not an option, and there was no gantry, or steps available.
I hope it’s still there and hasn’t moved even one inch.
Since this thread started an hour ago, what have the powers that be said to do? Ask them and let’s have a laugh at what they say to do[emoji23]
Take a video of how it gets tipped, I’ve got an idea of how it gets tipped but you may surprise me
I wouldn’t be taking it either, not a cat in hells chance. If they are going to transport appliances on a curtainsider like that, they should at least have the load bearing internal cargo nets & kites fitted inside the trailer, like the draymen have for beer kegs.
Not a cat in hells chance would I have taken it without some serious strapping.
Tell me, (and everyone else), you refused to take it?
I bet he just shut the curtains and took it.
At the risk of causing an outbreak of apoplexy on here, that photo was taken as it was about to be tipped, in Newport, having been loaded in Lincoln. It was loaded front to back, so no lengthways movement was going to occur, and an empty fridge weighs very little, also, they were laid on there sides, lengthways across the trailer, and yes I do have load bearing curtains. So, to all the don’t take it brigade, whilst strapping it would have been my preference, purely by not driving like a ■■■■ it would appear to have been ok.

Sorry mate, but if you were stopped by DVSA and they pulled back the curtains and found that, I wouldn’t fancy your chances not even with a load bearing/XL trailer. It’s not really about whether it’s OK with you driving sensibly, it’s what happens if ■■■■ hits the fan and you have to make sudden movements out on the road in the event of/avoiding an accident, not sure i’d back that load not to bounce about/move about side to side.
That’s just my ten pennies worth anyway.
It was the 1st, and probably only, time I’ve taken such a load, but, while loading, and tipping, I was one of several different curtain side trailers there, and I only saw 1 strapped load. I’m not saying that makes it ok in the eyes of the dreaded DVSA, but, as I’ve never heard any reports of a shed load consisting of knackered fridges, it’s not a problem in the real world.

I can see Mr. DVSA officer now. “It appears to be ok drive - carry on”.
I’d like to say something witty or cleverly thought out but can’t find the words. Maybe ‘in the real world’ I’m speechless. Stuff like that shouldn’t be on the road. I’m no angel but that’s going backwards in time. Or maybe eastwards in direction you see loads like that in India etc.
as mentioned top right corner would suggest the load had moved.
guessing its envirocom you are working at?
