war1974:
as mentioned top right corner would suggest the load had moved.
guessing its envirocom you are working at?
So where has it moved I think if you look again the one sticking out is a fridge freezer which is longer than the fridge below it.
Still doesn’t make it right loading it like that but someone will always take it, that’s why this industry is in such a ■■■■ state.
cracker-bar:
It was the 1st, and probably only, time I’ve taken such a load, but, while loading, and tipping, I was one of several different curtain side trailers there, and I only saw 1 strapped load. I’m not saying that makes it ok in the eyes of the dreaded DVSA, but, as I’ve never heard any reports of a shed load consisting of knackered fridges, it’s not a problem in the real world.
I am amazed at that attitude! I don’t think anyone on here is actually concerned about the load but more about the damage it could do to innocent victims of any shed load accident you cause, and that is just an accident waiting to happen. It does not matter how careful you drive it only needs some plonker to cut you up and you have to take avoiding action and that load would be out through those curtains.
Curtains are intended to protect your load from the elements, not keep your load inside! Even load bearing curtains have limits, and from experience I can tell you that it’s often the curtain tracks/runners that go before the curtain tears if they are “load bearing”.
And a final comment, I certainly would not share on here that you had taken that load on the road, VOSA will be watching. Even if they are not here there are many that would not hesitate to give them the link to this thread.
I’ll stick my head above the parapet and say that while it doesn’t look too clever the fact that the trailer has load bearing curtains and each item is under VOSAs own guidelines on what requires strapping, then I reckon you would be okay if they did pull you and check your load. We move white goods including some salvage and scrap loads, and while that load above may not be the norm I do have a good idea of what is acceptable and whats not as VOSA have seen quite a few of our loads and we’ve never had a problem yet.
If you really couldn’t leave the load you could have left a foot or so gap across the middle then strapped front left to middle right ,front right to middle left with a few over the top and respeat at rear half .
cracker-bar:
whilst strapping it would have been my preference, purely by not driving like a [zb] it would appear to have been ok.
And not coming across someone else driving like a ■■■. It isn’t your driving you need to worry about, its all the other halfwits and especially during the school holidays when every ■■■■■■■■ seems to be on the road for their one journey a year which isn’t to go to work or do the shopping.

Load bearing curtains do exactly what it says on the tin I’m sure as ■■■■ stinks a 50 kg knackered fridge ain’t gonna come out of that trl and kill some children.
I’ve pulled trls with a tonne plus pallets on with those type of trls for a multi national company has had it good authority by the dvsa that they are fine so you are talking complete ■■■■■■■■!!
It looks wrong but very little weight in empty fridges,If that is a load bearing curtain trailer and it can’t restrain that in event of a incident then it is no different than any other trailer so why bother with load bearing trailers?
Finally, some sense As for worrying about incidents caused by other drivers, anything bad enough to cause the load to detonate out of the trl, is sure as ■■■■ going to be a bigger problem than a falling fridge! I was starting to think I’d accidentally posted on mumsnet
Im confused.
In the original post you said “how would you secure it” since it had no internals and you said you wernt climbing all over the top of it.
Then a few hours later you say you took the picture when it was just about to be unloaded.

Nothing to be confused about, it was a rhetorical question, I already knew I hadn’t been able to do it, and had even tipped the load, but, did wonder, should I ever happen to cop for that job again, if anyone on here had any ideas that I hadn’t had, on how best to secure it. The only poster to give anything like a viable answer was Dan.
when vosa/dvsa stop you use the force “this is not the trailer you are looking for” failing that refuse in the first place
or argue that they are rammed in so tight that they aint gonna move
joking apart i have seen trailers like this although they have had sliding retaining netting inside

Think the most viable answer is that your a complete ■■■■.
No offence intended but omg whats all the BS about XL curtains doubt you would know a pair if they sat on your face and youve only sliped that in to defend the indefensible.
But fair dos no children where hurt in the making of this thread so thats a relief, till next time and there will be a next time.
To self depricate a bit for balance, back in the day I have travelled with worse, but I was a real ■■■■ back then.
