In reply to the above it makes absolute sense to me they are getting rid of a number of liablities (in the financial sense!!) after all driver has a fault accident who pays now ? OD who now pays holiday ? OD who no pays NI OD this is a model that a number of operators have deployed sucessfully and to be fair there are horror stories and sucess storys im just supprised that it has taken this long for them to do it in this way.
of course it makes sense, but to stobbies not the mugs that sign up to this, there are parts of all businesses that are neccesary to the running of a business but not profitable, one example is the bloke who spends all day sweeping up, it is neccesary that someone does this but this cost comes off the bottom line he /she does not contribute to the profits, if stobbies can franchise the unprofitable but neccesary part of their operation then they boost profitability and someone else takes the loss

He can not make it pay enough so he farms it out to a new od who will do that litte extra, new trucks are getting pricey so let some one else have the worry. The problem with all businesses that rely on machinery to earn a living is that the purchase and running costs have become prohibitive to earning a profit.
This doesn’t make any sense. ‘purchase and running costs’ are all tax deductable.
Or to put it another way you only pay tax on your profits after all costs have been deducted. But not getting taxed on your costs isn’t a lot of help when the total revenue for the job doesn’t cover all the costs let alone make enough profit to be taxed on.
One of the reasons for the end of the gold rush was because the cost of a shovel reached more than the amount of gold, contained in the earth that it would dig over it’s lifetime, was worth.
I was offered this back in August 2010… redundant just before Christmas and started new job 3rd Jan
There is life after Stobart
Good to see you’ve got something Well done that man!

Thank you
Why not set fire to 12 grand, the pain will be over much quicker !

So, let’s get this straight, they offer the Owner Driver option to all their own trampers, most refuse. Stobarts then get the hump and sack loads of their employed trampers and put this advert in the Sun newspaper. Most petulant.
That’s how i see it too. Not pleasant but then its business i guess.
From terminalised transport to this. Someones following a very American plan
£12,000 for the privelige of working for Stobbie’s, without going into the obvious pitfalls of this, and if you stop and think they are many potentially bankrupting.
Are you exclusively tied to their work, or can you pick up a better paying load? as you are basically a self employed owner driver (yes?) surely if Eddie’s offer you a load for say £400 and Billy Bloggs offers you £500 for a similar run, are you obliged to take Eddie’s. just wondering.

Now we’re getting somewhere !! The only things we do know is three facts…
- Stobarts has anounce it is looking to increase profits.
- Stobarts has anounced redundancies.
- Stobarts has asked for franchisee/owner drivers.
Lets hope they tell the subbys that in complete contradiction with how they grew their business, they now want subbys to help ‘profitability’ !!!
Couldn’t make it up could ya !!
Winseer:
All those ES trampers being laid off… Are any up for a 5 figure redundancy payment?
There are a few, my mate at Goole got £103.29 as his final salary

“fast eddie” obviously can ! Bewick.
I think we covered most of the eventualities in round one, to recap this was the initial advert, apparently Eddies men are not as daft as they look
I see the capital has gone up from 5 to 12 thousand, and the rest is just a ■■■■ take, they are obviously trying and I use the word lightly to recruit naive employee types whi havnt ever been in thereal world!! Manning the vehicle on rest days, thats rich good lord they dont want much what a set of idiots

That may be the exact difference between the monthly payments for the fully maintained unit, tyres, fuel etc etc and the rate paid for a month’s worth of loads carried.

Look on the bright side no need for an accountant and the wagon will be LEZ compliant.
so its gone from wheel nuts recruiment picture that says
OPEN TO ESL EMPLOYEES ONLY
to a full page advert in the sun. obviously the drivers saw through the crap
the bit where it says you are responsible for providing cover on your rest days has ne wondering if they expect you to have the wheels turning 7 days a week for them? thats a hell of a chunk out of any profits even if youve a friend who will do it for £50 a day. still comes to £400 a month
£12,000 to become a stobarts biatch cant see many taking it up
