When you do shift work for them, are your start times fixed?
I’m looking at a new job with start times that are the same or at least similar daily. My current role varies too much and it is hard to maintain any kind if life outside it…

Sounds like any truck driving job really… Most are capable of buggering you about to some extent.
I’d think they’d have pretty regular starts at Stobbies, but not certain. Someone will be along soon to give you the lowdown…
You want regular start times and a life outside work while still driving a truck, try night trunking. I start at 7pm every night and can usually tell within half an hour of getting to work when I’ll be finished (usually by 2 or 3am). I earn more than the day blokes, get a lie in every morning and plenty of time during the day to live my life. Downsides are that I do one of two runs week in, week out, I never get a Friday night in the pub because I’m always at work and I rarely se emy other half (this may not be a downside for some people ). Oh, and not all night trunking jobs are like this: when I worked for DHL on the Walls contract our start times were anywhere between 4pm and 1am and shifts were often 12 hours or longer.

I can’t answer for other depots but at Tesco Widnes you have a base time and your start times shouldn’t (and normally won’t, unless you ask for an early start) go more than an hour either way.
i spent 7 years there,i know dont ask.but if ur employed on nights, its usually between 4 and 6 start time on general, pending when the day mans back.as for tesco u can be rostered to work any hours, depends wots on offer… hth
I too can vouch for Stobarts Tesco Widnes. My ‘base time’ is 7pm and they can only go 2 hours either way although it very rarely goes any different by an hour. I’ve been there 6/7 months and only had 3 times when it’s gone over an hour either way. As much as I’d love to try it I don’t think I could ever tramp ask g as I have my family at home so this is ideal for me.

Only thing I get regularly from stobarts are letters about putting you though procedure or marks on my file, you can nigh on guarantee one of those a week .
And don’t get suckered in by happy sack, there’s only room for so many bosses pets
There are some decent jobs at stobarts, Tescos isnt one of them. The drawbars outta warrington or carlisle is, you couldnt find a better job if you tried no trailers swaps so easy its ridiculous
Hi all.I put this on here so i don’t have to make ‘‘another’’ E.S.thread.
Ihave just read on the Swedish news that Stobart and E.Jenkinson have together just ordered 1500 new trucks from Scania to be delivered over the next 2years.There’s money somewhere.Who knows, they may even be on GB plates.

Wasn’t the last time they did this the order was for 2,000+ units ,so if there only now ordering 1,500 units that’s a fairly large reduction in fleet size ,seems a lot of units being de- hired arnt being replaced, ties in with us having 75 units in feb,20 now, next few weeks,
I keep looking at applying to be a tramper out of the crick depot. Just not sure if I want to go and travel nz first after getting the bug after a year in Australia! Anyone on here tramp for them? Any idea what it’s really like? Good parking most nights? Are the planners any better than a lot you hear about on here? Is it enjoyable or does it just sound and look great fun to me as I’m still fairly young (25)

You say “you couldn’t find a better job if you tried”.
Do you base how good a job is on how many trailer swaps are involved?
Are the drawbar guys at Warrington and Carlisle on the same £7 odd an hour pittance like everybody else at Stobart’s?
Are you absolutely sure we couldn’t find a better job if we tried?

There are plenty of ■■■■ easy driving jobs out there which will probably see you take home much more money & be home every night.
Always wondered what an Australian’s reaction would be to one of Stobarts ‘Road Trains’.
