Stobarts

This may help someone looking ,

I have just done 2 night shifts from Rugby , through an agency , and there is a notice up loooking for FULL TIME trampers mon-fri .

Can I also add , never having any dealing with Stobarts before , that the work was ■■■■ easy , all good kit (2 x brand new Volvo ) and every interaction with Stobart staff was positive , drivers and office staff were polite and helpful and I would be happy to return . I realise there are bad apples everywhere but I find if you conduct yourself in a professional manner , 9 times out of ten that’s recipricated .

Cue the haters

Just let your planner know what time you like to start , and if hes a good bloke he will try and keep you too that time the best he can.
6 am was my time on general days but sometimes I was asked to be in 5am and some 7am , but rarely was outside these times, I also told them I didn’t want to work anymore than 10 hours a day, even this was fine unless for unforeseen circumstances, which is out of anyone’s hands so not much you can say about it .

Easy job in all accounts as long as the planner in your side , but then that goes for all the big companies really.

Hi all.Pimpdaddy i’m not sure what FTFY means so i will say only that this is the press report from Scania saying that the British companies E.Stobart and A.W.Jenkinson Forestry Products have just placed an order for 1500 Scanias for delivery in the next 2years.I only mentioned this as Scania say it is the second largest single order they have received.

It means Fixed That For You. You had put E Jenkinson which he changed to AW Jenkinson.

There are some decent jobs at stobarts, Tescos isnt one of them. The drawbars outta warrington or carlisle is, you couldnt find a better job if you tried no trailers swaps so easy its ridiculous

I agree, probably the best driving job Ive had, apart from when I was tramping nightshift, who the F decided that would be a good idea?
Tessco’s is a pain in the ■■■.

I keep looking at applying to be a tramper out of the crick depot. Just not sure if I want to go and travel nz first after getting the bug after a year in Australia! Anyone on here tramp for them? Any idea what it’s really like? Good parking most nights? Are the planners any better than a lot you hear about on here? Is it enjoyable or does it just sound and look great fun to me as I’m still fairly young (25)

Are the planners any better than you here on here,no they’ll stitch you up with a 15 hr + shift if possible!they seem too delight in doing 7,7,7,7, and then kill you with a 15 on your last shift, sitting staring at the gates of a tesco store for hours on end seems to,be a favourite one of there’s,you can ring who you like ,general reply is you’ll have too sit with it :unamused: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
They also seem to delight themselves by giving you a sensible last shift, well it looks it on the iso-trac and then boooomph it’s gone, and you’ve got the biggest pile ■■■■ you can imagine on the iso-trac,they often then don’t answer the phone. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
Apparently from reading another post on this thread if you act in a professional manner none of this will happen :stuck_out_tongue:
Actually ignore me,I’ve only had 6 years of this ■■■■,listen too the bloke who done a couple of agency shifts,he’d know more( his eyes are still glazed over with a couple of new shinny volvos   )
:unamused: :unamused:

You asked them if you could just do 10 hrs and that was fine  ,this is a thread about stobart :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,I said I didn’t want to work Xmas and new year and they didn’t say fine,I asked for short days, they didn’t say fine,I asked for holidays ,they didn’t say fine,I said I only want short days on my last weekly shift, they didn’t say fine, they stitched me up with a zb night out.
I’ve never believed the bosses watch this forum ■■■■ you hear, but all this the t.o is nice and polite, they give you brand new trucks, you ask for 10 hr shifts that’s fine etc etc,I’m starting to think they don’t watch this forum there actually posting on here,or drivers are being paid to post this ■■■■,you’d think listening to happy sack, shade etc stobarts was some kind of eu topiary that all drivers can only dream of .
I’m sure the bosses are in on this pr campaign going on this forum,zb he’ll the ones who get taken in by it all and take a job are in for a rude awakening, can I just do 10 hrs,of course you can, anything else we can help you with :unamused:
Can wait to see there faces when they get a ratty old g-cab and get sent off to tesco ,with a here’s a 15 and a night out get on with it :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: if not there’s the door :exclamation: :exclamation:

Hang on. Have I read this wrong…

Nights out on supermarket work? :open_mouth:

You asked I answered and I hate lairs, so I try my best not to.
To be fair I did have a good planner who treated you as you treated him, now I know not all are like this ,and maybe only a handful are, but believe me mine was.

If my old planner said " sorry mate I need you to go here, there or wherever " after my usual 10hrs I would of said “ok ,no worries”, because that’s a working partnership, and everywhere I’ve ever worked does it that way, and because of this he always stuck to his word and planned me 10hr days, maybe I was lucky ? who knows …

You say “you couldn’t find a better job if you tried”. :open_mouth:

Do you base how good a job is on how many trailer swaps are involved?

Are the drawbar guys at Warrington and Carlisle on the same £7 odd an hour pittance like everybody else at Stobart’s?

Are you absolutely sure we couldn’t find a better job if we tried?
[/quote]
I think you will find that the basic day rate may well be £7 an hr but after add ons meal allowance fuel bonus the money is average for the area. You can walk with £500 nicker without much trouble nites no tramping.

I can only speak from personnel experience when I say you cudnt find a better job if you tried but in my experience the drawbars is a decent job. Obviously there are better jobs out there. when you find one you let us know

Dozy ,
I’ve read your rants and sly dig at what I posted earlier . I stand by what I typed , the difference between your constant moans on here and my outlook to work is this …
I am a truck driver , I go to work knowing that that shift may mean working to my max legal hours . I also accept things can and do go wrong , and I may have to sit around . It don’t matter to me if I’m at work for 15hrs , or away on tour for months . You however seem to resent delays and expect your shift to run like clockwork .
To clarify , my post was a true reflection of my experiance and a heads up to anyone looking for a tramping job outta Rugby .

By the way , this post was typed in another new Volvo , at Tesco Dav , where I’ve been waiting for an empty trailer for the past 4 hours . I then have to load at Northampton , tip and reload Sidcup , tip and reload northampton and return to Rugby . Am I bothered ?
Bet your blood pressure would be sky high now !!

Stobarts work off,gts your work load is constantly changing ,you could start the day out with abc and end up with xyz,you could start with 7 hours of work and end up with 15 or start with 13 and end up with 9 hrs, when I book on I’ve no idea where I’m going or when my shift will end.
But you know exactly what your doing/ where your going
Mmmm ,I don’t think you and you’re mates are drivers :exclamation: :exclamation: ,you’re using trucknetuk for a recruitment campaign :exclamation:
You can’t but help mention you get a NEW VOLVO,that should hook them :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:
You’ve not mentioned 1 negative about the job,not 1, seriously,
No mention of money  ,I bet even you are struggling to put a positive spin on £7 p.h,oh hang on you get a BRAND NEW VOLVO.
I might of even been taken in if you done the jobs for years, but 3 days, gushing praise about every aspect.
Nice try

You’re not very bright are you ?

I DONT WORK FOR STOBARTS :bulb:

All this moaning and ■■■■■■■■ aside, what’s the day/night shift work like for Stobarts? I know the full time trampers get their hours maxed out, what about the shift drivers?

And Dozy, I think you need a holiday

As Dozy says , I’ve only done a few shifts on agency whilst I wait to go back to Fly By Nite . That said , as my original post indicates , I have no complaints about kit or the way that I’m treated . I’ve been doing nights and have done max legal hours most shifts but I cant say its been difficult !! Hardest job I can see is getting the fifth wheel grease stain outta me jeans )

They are looking for trampers , if I needed to , I’d apply . Take no notice of the ■■■■■■■■ and moaning , you"ll find those guys at most firms …

And they are normally the drivers that do the least graft .

HTH

I have been a casual at Stobarts for 2 years, like anywhere you get those who have one source of conversation, moaning. However you also get those who come in, keep themselves to themselves and get on with doing what they are being paid to do. This goes for drivers and planners alike but many days you can come on and the only interaction you have with planners is via what they input on Isotrak. Other days you can go into a planning office and like anywhere come into contact with some poor planner who is having a ■■■■ day and tries to take if out on you, in the main though they treat you as you treat them!

Granted, I only work Saturdays and Sundays (every week) and I do it because I want to rather than needing to to pay the bills, so it’ puts a different perspective on it. However, being Casual means I tell Stobarts my availability on a rolling week of 10 days ahead, they have never turned me away in 2 years and if I want a week or two away I simply say I am not available and there are no holiday entitlements to limit me.

Most days are 13 hrs and can involve anything from 4 hrs driving to 10 hrs driving. My work is mainly Drawbars out of Warrington with occasional Artics out of Trafford Park. Some days involve short runs and a dozen or more curtain pulls with loads of waiting about for FLT to be available. Other days involve a drive to 1 site, a tip and reload with empties and a drive back.

I can be “asked” to start anytime between 3 am and 8 am but mainly it’s 5 am to 6 am and that happens to be fine with me as I am a morning person. On one occasion I had a family function on the Friday (no drink involved) which meant I would be in bed late. So when they asked me to start at 3 am on the Saturday they really did have no issue changing it to an 8am when I explained the issue.

Yes they do have good kit, but they do keep the Drawbars much longer than the units so it can put a dent in your day when you get put out in an 8 year old drag with a manual box and 1.5 million on the clock. These are few and far between though so in the main they are newish autos, well maintained and easy to drive.

I am sure there are better paid driving jobs out there but let’s not get into hourly rates and the inclusion/exclusion of the £13 per shift ‘meal allowance’ debate. If you are by necessity chasing the cash, I would look elsewhere within the industry. If you are looking for 9-5 weekends off you probably need to look outside the industry.

I’m not having that,8 yr old scania with 1.5 million on the clock :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,every stobart gets a BRAND NEW VOLVO at the start of there shift,I’ve just read it so it must be right.
The meal allowance is £15 and has been for a fair while,I’m assuming you’ve not been in for a while not to know that,I guess if I spent 6 months at work and 6 months abroad it wouldn’t seem a bad job :exclamation: :exclamation:
