Stobarts "equivalent hourly rate"

Me and my mate were chatting earlier. Says he might see about going Stobarts. I said it’s not great at £10.44 an hour and he said it’s £11.68. I said that with meal allowances and night out cash thrown in and split across the hour wage.

Later on I started wondering if I was right.

So what does the equivalent hourly rate include?

Dunno, but meal allowances and night out money should have nothing to do with the hourly rate.

They shouldn’t but they advertise it like that. I just can’t recall what allowances they actually include. I think it’s like a daily meal allowance but doesn’t include night out payments.

I think you will find that £8.50/£9.00 is the hourly rate, on days.

£10.44 is based on fuel bonus, meal allowance and number of hours worked and is more of an ‘on target earnings’.

Union calls on Eddie Stobart in ■■■■■■■ to come in from the cold
06 March 2018
Drivers have launched a campaign for trade union recognition at Eddie Stobart Ltd at Carlisle, Lillyhall and Penrith depots in ■■■■■■■■ in their fight for fair pay.

There is anger and frustration that the company is paying some of its drivers just £8.68 an hour which is below the Living Wage Foundation’s recommendation of £8.75.

Cheers chaps. So I was sort of right in the sense that the hour rate is pants but is made to look better with add ons added.

Good question.Stobart may be start pay mote than 9 p/h but they can remove meal allowance.I ready know company who increase wages to national living wages but legally drop some extra payment.

I’ve only recently passed class 1 so I applied to Stobarts because they take new drivers and I just want to get behind the wheel and get experience.
Until I saw the pay. I was getting more on 7.5 tonnes, it’s a disgrace.
They include the meal allowance & even night out money to make their rates look better and if you think about it - the more hours you work, the lower your rate of pay!! [zb] shocking shower of [zb]!
Here’s a breakdown I got straight from Stobarts themselves.

:open_mouth: I really don’t know what to say!

Guess what … I’ll not be bothering to turn up for the assessment
Even with my new licence I’ve already got some better options on offer. :sunglasses:

EDIT: looks like some of those other options aren’t that different so we’ll wait and see.

How many drivers from one depot will it take for a union to do something at a company like this one

Unite won’t do ■■■■ all they are bloody useless. All talk

The stobart driver on the A10 today at Enfield wasn’t worth £2.50. Shocking driving.

Bearing in mind the minimum wage went up from £7.50 to £7.83, that’s a further kick in the nuts.

But I suppose this is why you so often see stobarts drivers struggling to get onto bays, and sometimes struggling to get off them

Bet they even make a profit out of the drivers from that

Great ‘overtime’ rates. An extra 97p p/h after 55 hours. Less than time and a1/4 on Saturday and 38% extra on Sunday.
