Bearing in mind the minimum wage went up from £7.50 to £7.83, that’s a further kick in the nuts. But I suppose this is why you so often see stobarts drivers struggling to get onto bays, and sometimes struggling to get off them

Great ‘overtime’ rates. An extra 97p p/h after 55 hours. Less than time and a1/4 on Saturday and 38% extra on Sunday.
How do they get around the “Not allowed to work more than 10 hours on a night shift” WTD rule?

At Stobart plenty and plenty short shift from 9-10 hours.Plus any company can do opt out by vote from night shift regulation.Im most companies some 70-90 percent vote for.

, if your on the cemex contract you won’t be , it’s max hours every bloody day , or it is for me , I parked up after 13 hrs the other day and planner was going on and on about how I’d wasted 2 hrs and now id have a failed delivery against my name ( it got delivered/ and on time
) , he just wanted every minute , £ he can earn out of you / truck .
I’m assuming these short shifts are fridges / days , but then the amount of day shift driver moaning there not going to get back I’m not so sure
Nb I’m 56 , 5 days , 70 hrs tramping is more than enough for me , but every bloody week , can you run in / work sat/sun

Probably by collective agreement. Plus it’s not a 10hr duty length limit, it’s 10hr working time. Plenty of breaks on a bay etc
Bugger that.

Unite won’t do [zb] all they are bloody useless. All talk
All the union reps I worked with were interested in was "what’s in it for ME? They wouldn’t take up any complaints for fear of upsetting the management and losing their perks.

Or do you mean drivers didn’t have the ■■■■■■■■ to make their complaints official to start the ball rolling? A common occurrence in my experience!

In one job I was carpetted by a union rep.for allegedly carving the job up. When he was promoted to a supervisor I was suspended for refusing to do what he had claimed was “carving the job up”.
In another instance with another employer, if I had followed the union reps. advice regarding my miscalculated pension I would have lost over £30000 over the past twelve years.
The really good thing about Stobarts is that they’ll give newly passed drivers a start. I’ve only recently passed and although I really don’t know if I want to work for them I may just end up there anyway in order to get behind the wheel and get experience to help me get something better. The pay is shocking though and I think they probably rely on new drivers for this reason and all the guys who turn out to be good uns will bugger off elsewhere.
Surely all the damage to their vehicles (of which there’s lots) negates the gains from paying low wages.

You’d think so wouldn’t you? Also, don’t forget all the costs associated with new starters … advertising vacancies, interviews, assessments, inductions, new uniforms etc.
You’d think that it’d be beneficial for any company to treat its staff well and retain them but all over every industry the workers just get ■■■■ on. Madness.

You could apply the same “logic” to insurance and breakdown companies. Instead of getting a group of customers who rarely if ever make claims and keep them happy, they up the price every year and spend a fortune advertising for more customers. It is the conveyor belt effect and appears to achieve very little.
Why isnt the london weighting bonus not tax free?
And 8.68£ is abysmal. HTF do they get drivers to work for that

How do you get a collective agreement without a Union though? Presumably just a piece of paper stuck under every drivers nose with a ‘sign this or find another job’ instruction?

That’s what all union officials are about, surely you don’t believe they are out for the good of the workers? Back handers, smoothing the way, talking crap, taking your subs, gaining new members for a strong argument for a wage increase (for themselves)
