The state doesn’t need to keep its working class down, we’ve got our own subservient blinkered class doing it for them, they even think they’re clever and brag about it.
‘‘Those bounders are on strike Carruthers’’
‘‘No problem Brigadier i’ll send in the strike break team’’
‘‘Who are they?’’
‘‘Other drivers who are envious of the strikers, they think that by strike breaking they’ll get looked after in the future…snigger’’
‘‘How much will they cost Carruthers’’
‘‘Nothing Sir, we simply pat them on the head and they do the business for us, after all they are from the same class as those pesky strikers so nothing to justify and we get no bad publicity for sending in the Met Swat Team to crack skulls, too many cameras around in the 80’s, we don’t do it that way any more, the middle classes don’t mind us beating working class people up as long as its not being televised’’
‘‘Good man, do we have to look after the strike breakers for helping us out C, whats the bottom line?’’
‘‘Nothing Sir its free and deniable, we’ll give it to them dry in due course and out them when the disputes over, they’ll get no support from anywhere, we don’t use them twice or they might sell their stories when they realise they’ve been duped’’
‘‘Reminds me of the breakaway union wheeze that good old Margaret pioneered…guffaw…Good man Carruthers, i’ll be at the Golf Club for the rest of the week, carry on’’
Sorry to drag this thread up again. I am a Doncaster, Tesco driver.
Just a few facts.
July: Tesco informed us that Stobart would be taking over the transport at Doncaster.
August 4th: Stobart took over under TUPE . However we lost our pension, 10% discount card and free shares (worth an average of £1000).
September 4th: Stobart gave us all 90 days notice of redundancy stating that they could cover the work with current manpower.
September 5th: Stobart changed the wording to 90 day consultation.
The union became involved to A: get us the best redundancy package possible.
B: Question if they really have got enough spare capacity to run Doncaster as a satalite depot?
In order to make us redundant, they cannot park lorries in the depot so they would have to travel? Really good planning would be needed to make the time sensitive fresh deliveries.
Stobart could not offer an acceptable deal so we had a 2 day strike with another planned for the week after.
Stobart said they had an offer very close to what we wanted if we did not go through with the 2nd strike.
We did not strike as a gesture of good faith. What they had to offer was nothing like the amount we had gone in with, infact it was not much more than basic state redundancy.
That’s why we had our 2nd strike.
ACAS are now involved and there have been talks to resolve the issue.
This is the most basic explanation as to what is going off.
Cheers
Carlos

nice post. if you feel wronged, you have the right to protest, i would.
not generalising here, but some of the tesco drivers are stuck up ■■■■■■ and i mean SOME.
i worked for a firm for years, that used to sub at tescos thurrock and welham green with the christmas rush, or as and when.
lots of the lads and lasses were good as gold, but a few were narrow minded, lazy scum.
we used to do a couple of runs a day, and seemed to get the pick of the crap that no one else wanted, no probs, i work x amount of hours a day and don’t care what i can legally do in that time.
1 day i was between loads at welham green, and the guy in the traffic office said it would be ok to use the canteen.
so i went in, and whilst waiting to pay for my dinner, a tesco driver walked by, and stated quite loudly to the lady on the till, “make sure you charge him full price mary, he’s not one of us.”
he then went and sat with his mates.
mary served me, i payed, and she informed me in a whisper that she charged me staff rate.
i think she said it was a difference of about a quid. anyway, finished my dinner, got up, walked past mr happys table and dropped a pound coin on it, right in front of him.
he asked, “whats that for?”
i said, “mary charged me staff rate, and you clearly need it more than me.”
i genuinely hope you get what you deserve and are entitled too, but like anything, 1 bad apple can spoil a bunch.
and remember, the powers that be, sussed out that you can actually fight fire, with fire.

Great post…but it will definitely have gone over many a head on this forum.

And most of the workforce that Mr. Carruthers refers to inhabit this forum…and they rant and rave about everything else, rather than what matters most. In particular the few that try to improve their lot rather than bending over and accepting what is so wrong with the industry. However, as the Brigadier is playing golf (so the world is ‘top hole dear boy’), and Carruthers has it all under control, the above mentioned workforce can all ‘go and eat cake…’
And that is also above the heads of many on this forum…carry on chaps, there’ll be more dry bottom be-friending along in a moment.
could not agree with you more.iam a stobart driver from sherburn depot, and was asked if i would work out of doncaster.iam glad to say that i refused to cross the picket line.as far as i know so did all sherburn drivers.the ones from other depots did,and why they did is beyond me.

Ah Ha!
A driver along with others, from the same company… with principles… and a full set of nut’s.
You know…it’s a sad state of affairs, but long gone are the days when decent haulage companies were family owned, and loyalty and appreciation between driver and employer… and vice versa… were what kept the wagons moving and everyone happy.
Today it’s all about the likes of these so called haulage companies in question, and how much profit can be made for themselves, usually at a dire cost and total disregard of the drivers.
Nice to read some drivers are still prepared…and have the balls… to stand up and fight for a decent set of T&C’s.
