Stobarts and VOSA

Right, I was in Hawley’s Lane (ESL depot in Warrington) earlier today, I saw an old (at least 4 or 5 years) TCT* with yellow patch on the curtain. Looking closely, it had the EN12642XL standard printed on it, along with approved by SDC and DVSA logos/info on it.

The curtain it looked like exactly the same curtain that’s been on it since it was manufactured, complete with the repaired rips and slashes on it etc. There didn’t look to be any of the extra webbing that you can normally see on new XL curtains visible…

Have they found a work-around, or were they in fact XL rated all along?

Surprised you aren’t still there Phil. [zb]ing terrible place. I’ve seen bacteria move faster.

Come to think of it, what the hell possessed me to try Stobart’s lol.

My truck is a basic run of the mill scania , the only storage is the side locker behind drivers door which is full with straps , rachets .
Passenger floor is filled with more straps , rachets , strap protection etc .
Today they sent me some chains , where do I put them, no bins around to strap to cat walk , so theres more on passenger floor , nearly as high as seat , if I get pulled ministry couldn’t get in passenger door, I’ve no idea what they’d think , the answer when I rang company was yea know what your saying , but you’ll just have to knife and fork it :unamused: ,

shep yeah I get it regarding x amount will help. bet your boss was over the moon too

Over the moon and back. He was the chairman of the UK G Wagon owners association and his ‘G’ wasn’t exactly a standard model :unamused: takes a while to get the bits

The item weighed 4t and I had 4 standard ratchets on it (yes I was over loaded). Braked at a roundabout (■■■■■■■■ indicated then went straight on) and it all just slid forward. (No headboard on trailer). I know the straps were ■■■■■■ tight and good condition etc. I know now the issue was a low strap angle, low STF of each ratchet and ■■■■ all friction.

When I calculate what I needed it should have been 15 straps or some friction matting and 9 straps. Or a couple of spring lashings to the front.

I’m a believer in all this strapping ■■■■■■■■ now. Lost my job over that :grimacing:

I hope it never happens dozy, but IF the truck were to go over, drivers side down, where does all that gear end up?

I spoke to d/t and got similar answer , we understand your concerns but  , I guess they know daft enough to drive it , I guess they think in the event of a accident / get pulled the Bucks stops with the driver ( we wernt aware ) , I’m off the work one way or other so I could say not my problem , but I just find it beggars belief they can spec my truck with one storage locker for chains, rachets, straps, cow bells, Anderson leads, strap protection etc

You’re driving dozy. You’re getting in and putting up with it all. Don’t blame your boss.

When I wrote about securing a load properly, I wasn’t talking about those internal straps. I’ve never had the pleasure but I wouldn’t expect them to be any better than useless. I landed a job driving a rigid for a scrap yard. It was a steel floor and involved picking up steel bins with all sorts of steel crap inside, mostly loaded over the top. I was expected to drive with straps only and with all this stuff hopefully still there when I got back. Didn’t last long.
