Stobart vacancies - what's this all about?

on the run:
Basically its like being on call with this sort of job. Available at a moments notice, but with no pay for the inconvenience. Your be OK until January then the phone wont ring for months! We all been there phone rings 19:00 ish with someone asking if you can do a job, you say ok what time in the morning? to the replay come in ASAP, but i’v been up all day?

Pays crap to.

No pulling the wool over your eyes I there    ,back to the drawing board it is then :exclamation:

sadly they will have people filling the vacancies.

The spin on the issue of zero hours contract that it is good for both parties very cynical taking into account that if you refuse to do a shift totally they totally ignore your no and come back with the obvious question is why? put you on to the ‘black list’ if their is a next time

It’s just to get blokes in to cover Xmas innit.

No it’s there latest solution to not being able to get drivers,or not the amount they require, old adverts for drivers at various depots were repeated month after month so obviously not filled
It’s just another half hearted attempt at solving the issue of driver recruitment,if it had been £9.50 p.h,guaranteed 50 hrs,£15 per day m/a,f/b then they’d of been in with a shout, but they’ve just chucked in the carrot of £9.50 p.h and hoped that has the required effect( drivers knocking the door down for a job).
I personally don’t think it will have the desired effect, but there again if you listen to 99% of posters on here hourly rate is everything :exclamation: :exclamation: ,so maybe the thought of a rate of £9.50 p.h will have them pouring through the doors( and quite possibility running back out when they get there 6 hr days x £9.50, or there 30 hrs x £9.50 :! :exclamation: ).

a carrot?? £9.50 is still crap!!!

Jesus, this place is full of negative, miserable gits!

Put yourself in the shoes of the boss, what would you rather do, get a group of casual drivers together that you can rely on and trust or would you rather pay through the nose for agency staff that may not give a monkeys about anything and also you may get someone different every time you require them. If you employ a few casuals you will get to know them and they will get to know you along with your company policies and procedures and also they will probably respect you and your company a bit more than if they were just employed by an agency. Also if the time comes when you need to take on an extra full time driver you would be able to offer it to one of your casuals (providing they wanted to go full time) without advertising and going through the whole selection process or even paying a the fee that an agency will charge for taking one of theirs off of them.

And no it’s not like you are expected to drop everything for them at the drop of a hat. The ball is in your court YOU TELL THEM WHEN YOU WANT TO WORK and not the other way round.

Granted this may not be for everyone but no one is gonna hold a gun to your head and say this is the way it’s gonna be. If you don’t like the idea of being a casual then don’t do it. If you want a full time job then fine go and get one and if you want to work for an agency then thats also fine, if you want to go and buy a truck and start up on your own then go for it. Each to there own I say.
Personally for me, being a casual for Stobarts and now Sparks suits my situation perfectly, I am in control, I say when I can work and 99% of the time they will find me something to do and they no I will do the job to the best of my ability and represent the comapny well.

iam a casual, but not on a zero hours one. iam required to do 16 hours a week or more if i would like . absolutely no pressure on what shift . what days i work . some weeks i will do 6 days others 2 . in the summer i might do two days and have 10 days off

basicly i work when i like. and it runs well with another seasonal summer job i have , and it fits in verywell with family life.
I get the first call for next weeks work. if i cant be arsed or i want to go out on the pull / beer i dont work. i get holiday . pension . and the work well trust me this tossco job is so easy ,

bit i like is not being required to do what and when they say . where as all the full timers . who are are on the same hourly rate as me have to do what the say . me if i cant be arsed . i tell them . no pressure what so ever.
i get the same for doing 25 hours and getting a top up from tax credits than me doing 40-60 hrs a week working my little ■■■ off . plus i also get free prescriptions. kids school meals . and kids that know me !!

I agree. We have drivers who work part time and claim every benefit they can.

Lazy, greedy, spongers who thinks the world owes them a favour.

Totally agree, also I think the minimum wage doesn’t help, tight bosses pay NMW and the state tops it up with tax credits etc :imp:

Welfare uk at its best

I bet the posters having a go a h/b took the family allowance though :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

No dozy i didnt so there you go

If the people who run this country claim everything why not the workers. Go for it H

I’m on a zero hours contract at the moment. It works for us as I can fit around my wifes shifts at the hospital (absolutely no pattern to what days/nights she works) I tell them what days/nights Im available and get given work to fit in.
Im not working for an agency so dont get the agency lies etc etc.
Theres always me or the wife to look after the kids, no childcare costs to pay.
Not eligible for tax credits or other handouts because joint income is in excess of 18k a year.
For some people it can work and is the only way it can work! Dont knock it!

maybe so. but its nothing like the two fingered salute you get when you get your wage slip to find that chunk taken out for tax and ni. to fund other countrys problems. let alone ours

its about family life. some people want a life , know there family, see the family grow,
But some others want to sit behind a steering wheel 6 days a week and not do what i want to do

Text from mate at Lutterworth on agency, pay rise,£11 up from £10 :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
We’ve now got flexi/casuals on £9.50 p.h,agency on £11 p.h( well at least at Lutterworth they are), then there own drivers on £7.75 p.h,and then they ask how they can raise the morale of the drivers. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
