if i read it correctly they have off loaded the finishing and prep side so maybe the transport sides staying

Don’t like to bash them either, but I think all these specialist areas of transport they entered into haven’t worked out too well for them. Time for them to get back to basics maybe?

My personal opinion and I have no evidence to prove this is that yes they are in trouble and are liquidating assets to keep more profitable ventures going, why would you sell a company you only brought 5 month before?

its a division of auto logic

well i know paragon have been advertising for loads of drivers in mk and surrounding areas newpapers for the last month or so to run from corby and thurleigh, so hopefully that means the the drivers that tuped to stobarts jobs are safe. just seems everyday on here theres reports of people losing their jobs

Is this the end for Stobarts as we know them?

Will the Stobbie Empire crumble and fall, or will they rise up and get to make another series of Trucks and Trailers?

I’ve just read the latest Press release that a Female called Avril has been appointed as Excecutive Chairperson, she is the former boss of Autologic, they’ve also got shot of a bloke from Premier Foods who was a non-excec director(did fast eddie work for Premier Foods?) Apparently she’s been forced on the Chuckle brothers by Stobbies largest investor/shareholder,Investech, who have circa a 34% holding. She has the task of shedding all the “non performing” parts of the group. So it sounds like the “proverbial” has hit the fan and as this Lady has only been there for 5 months it dosen’t say much for the “Chuckles” management skills, the way things are looking Tink may well be back at Appleby Fair this year selling clothes pegs and lucky heather!  :unamused:

the prep and defect rectification is were the money is in car transport!!

As far as I’m aware NO they didn’t, Most of the Premier distribution was done by the Wisbech Roadways consortium (Knowles, Garn and Jack Richards) until princes bought the Wisbech and Long Sutton factories, that work is now done by CEVA!

Is it a case stobart inderestermated the complexities of running specialist contracts like chilled car transport etc and thought it was as simple as shifting pallets of baked beans round and costed the job acordingly.

That sounds like a fair assessment “kr79” they seem,in a short time, to have “poked” into a lot of different, and unconnected, areas of the “logistics” industry that are as foreign to each other as “chalk and cheese”,if they now get their just desserts they will only have themselves to blame! Cheers Bewick.

Credit it to them, they know when not to flog a dead horse.

Is the pdi/refurb horse dead?, Paragon will be just about the only player in this market soon.

The ‘chair’ referred to above takes an interesting course for those bothered enough to search, watch this space.

Im sure Tescos would buy one of those of them though

The way I have read this is just divesting itself of a part of the business which isn’t transport. When I worked at Ontime Automotive we had a huge re-manufacturing and refurbishing depot in Wellesbourne. They were preparing all the new Mercedes and then selling on the trade ins.

CAT Logistics used to do the same thing in Goole with Renault. They had an import centre who did PDI, fitted extras and did minor repairs before the cars were dispatched.

Stobart knows about road transport, do they want to know about garage services?

I agree with another poster that this may be the most lucrative part, but if you don’t understand the market, you could soon be catching a cold.

Edited. Poor English. :stuck_out_tongue:

PLC companies like Stobart purchase other companies to expand rapidly, for market share, volume or to move into new areas which require knowledge and contacts that may take a long time to build up.

DHL, Norbet Destrangle and Wincantons have all followed this policy over the last decade.

I have never worked for Stobarts, but I have worked for DHL & Wincanton and their policies on acquisitionand mergers have proved as successful and unsuccessful as Stobarts.

Wincanton entered the European market by purchasing P&O Trans European and has since pulled out, it entered the container and construction industries just before the recession took hold.

DHL has been on a constant depot closure and streamling operation since it swallowed Exel.

On the issue of the closure of the Stobart chill division, I think you’ll find that Culina (Muller) said they would drive Wincanton out of chill and succeeded. It was only a matter of time before Stobarts suffered the same fate.

All the time ,any country some company win cotract, some company lost contract.it is bussines, normaly.and for different reason
