I’ll have to check at work about this, I’m not saying no to another £25 per week. That’s a sesh in the pub! :grimacing:

As for the supposed agency shortage, there seems to be a shortage of Stobart drivers in Yorkshire, the Goole, Sherburn and Doncaster depots are lathered in agency drivers. You are seriously a minority if you wear a green shirt. They persistently don’t have enough Stobart lads, so they have to call the agency lads in to fill the gaps. If the work dries-up, or there aren’t any vehicles, the agencies are first to be sent home. I’ve seen some agency drivers walk straight-in, and be sent home straight away. The only time I’ve seen shortages of drivers in general are on Sundays.

Conor:
Coming up the M1 tonight I undertook a Stobbies wagon near Luton. Was surprised to see it was a left ■■■■■■ with CZ plates on. Are Stobbies getting that desperate now that they’re having to look to Eastern Europe? Maybe they’re having to run from there to make up the 250 wagons they lost when their O license got restricted the other month.

wow conor last week you were causing mayhem sitting at 36mph now your flying about undertaking drivers.

Err no - just because there are more agency than employees doesn’t mean they’re not having a problem finding agency drivers. There are far more agency than there are employed drivers at those depots but they struggle to get enough agency in. They’re now advertising for agency drivers for Goole from over 60 miles away. A fortnight last Friday HJ did some traction work for Stobbies Goole Tesco (no idea why) with a couple of units. Out of all the drivers that my agency has on the books they found just one willing to go into Goole on Friday so HJ ended up having to send in one of their own drivers whilst an agency driver did the run he was supposed to be doing instead.

Very few agency want to do Stobbies Goole and they only do it if they’re desperate for work and there’s nothing else offered. Those who aren’t desperate for the money just stay at home unpaid instead because they prefer it to going into that joke of a place.

Stobart driver so didn’t know what lane they were supposed to be in as they were meandering up the road in their flip flops in L2 at 50MPH. Tried to give a hint, wasted my time.

    now now you should understand the poor agency stobrat drivers lack of ability and sense (if they had more sense they wouldn’t be at stobrats).

There are 50 mph trials taking place at the minute. One of mates ran down to Rugby last week at 56. The other lad ran down at 50.

10 minutes difference in arrival time. (Both Scana’s loaded identically, same tyre pressures set and all fluids, oils etc identical).

The 50 mph wagon hammered the mpg on the 56 by 1.5 mpg!! Get ready to be stuck behind the Co op, Argos, Sainsburys and Stobart wacky racers.

Radar19:
You know its bad when they consider Wincanton the better employer! :open_mouth:

Not a valid test. Needs to be the same driver. I used to do a run like the above down to London for a TNT contract from Hull. Two of us in the same wagons, same load, everything the same as above. He would use 240 litres of diesel a night, I’d use 200 litres. As we would change units and get the same results it was clearly down to his driving style which was up to the redline in every gear, up to lights and roundabouts and anchor on the brakes. I would arrive at the gates as he was pulling through them and when we got back he’d just be on the pumps as I dropped my trailer.

Quite easy to get a difference of 1.5MPG just by driving style alone.

I find it quite amusing that Wincanton are considered the better employer, a few drivers I know left ESL Stoke for Wincanton Middlewich and came back citing how ■■■■ it was!

Personally I don’t see the problem with Stobart, I’ve worked for them for 9 years nearly, back in the day I was with James Irlam before ESL bought them out, in the intervening time the change has been much better kit (some of Irlams trailers were a joke) provided uniform and periodic training, I actually think it’s better now than it was in the Irlam days, a lot disagree but I think they look back at the Irlam days with rose tinted specs tbh.

A lot of hatred for ESL is about but I’m yet to experience it personally, if I see another hauliers vehicle involved in an accident or bridge strike I don’t automatically assume therefore all their drivers are tossers, the reverse seems to apply with ESL probably because they are high profile maybe, and not helped by that crap TV show!

Argos have tendered the contract, ESL have got it, the end, move on…

I don’t think any animosity is directed at the drivers, as with every company there’s good bad and indifferent, and all they’re doing is earning a crust same as any of us.

Conor:

“The majority of the Coventry drivers preferred to take the severance package rather than go and work for Eddie Stobart.”

Despite attempts, no-one from Eddie Stobart was available to comment.

Methinks that the penny has finally dropped at Stobarts that nobody wants to work for them anymore especially with the hassle they have even finding agency to cover places like Goole and Donny. A load of drivers choosing the dole rather than TUPEing over to them must’ve been a bit of a kick in the teeth.

They could remedy the situation quite easily by getting rid of the bullcrap and making the hourly wage the hourly wage and not just an equivalent take home after all the tax fiddles have been applied.

They are using Agency’s as far afield as Leeds and Boston now to try get drivers for Goole and I think EVERY Agency in Lincolnshire is running out of there.

They’d be paying Stobart’s subs? :open_mouth:

" Meal allowance is going up a fiver ". Do you know why Dozy?

It’s to pay for all the admin costs for the cards that you will end up with. The card which will enable your meal purchase.

Because according to my sources (which haven’t been wrong yet), the ’ cash ’ meal allowance is soon coming to an end. And your super duper new £20 a day meal allowance will be EXACTLY that. A meal allowance.

Enjoy getting fat mate!
