Stobart pay

coreysboys:
I did a shift last Saturday for my local agency. The usual rate for them on Saturdays is £10-11 ph.
Imagine my dismay when my payslip came yesterday and my rate was £9 ph!!
Thats a £26 pay drop for that shift. It may not sound a lot but that was the only shift I had last week so amounts to a 20% pay cut.

I am not prepared to do it any longer for that money. I was straight onto the agy and told them I will not do any more work for them for less than £10 sats £12 suns, and only if they offer work on both days. They can’t keep squeezing the drivers rates down just to maintain their profit margin. I would rather drive 130 miles to the Midlands and stay Saturday in a hotel earning £14 ph than put up with the [zb] rates they pay here in Hull.

You don’t confirm the rate before working!!! First lesson of agency work -get the rates in writing…they may just be trying it onin this instance so I’d be speaking to them again. If the usual rate is higher then ask why you didn’t get that rate and why, if it was lower they didn’t tell you first?

Ahem…possibly so you didn’t tell them to ■■■■ off!!!

Ive worked this contract many times before and was familiar both with these rates and those of most other contracts. IMHO they have tried pulling a fast one. They are now aware of my personal conditions for working for them and if they don’t make the necessary adjustments my services will no longer be available to them.

I dont feel it unreasonable to expect premium pay for premium hours especially at the inflated rates they charge for weekend drivers. Minimum £10 ph for Saturdays for the area otherwise, like I said, I will travel to work for agencies elsewhere that pay reasonable and then offset my mileage and hotel. It may extend my day by a couple of hours but i’d be better off.

The basic rate from Monday to Friday, between 6.0018.00 is £ 7.20. and every shift has £ 13 tax free meal allowance. I think, from 18.00 to 6.00 is £ 8.50, and the Saturday is £ 9.50, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday are £10.50.

Wow :exclamation: I really thought Stobarts pay would be more than that, infact for such a large company I thought they would pay top whack. Our class 2 rate (Sorry not up to big 'uns just yet  ) is £7.60 basic with £10.13 after 8 hours, Sat £11.40 all day, Sun £15.20 all day and bank hols £15.20 + 8 hrs basic, night out (If any) is £25 + parking refunded. I only work for a mid sized company in the midlands that employs around 40 drivers. As said before though if you enjoy it why change, I only took my job for a bit of experience after passing my class 2 but nearly 6 years on I’m still here.

Stobbies are one of the worst payers in the business. Not on their own, but as one of the biggest they get the stick…some folk like it there some don’t. If you’re not fussy about earning good money then Stobbies are OK.

Basic pay yes, average earnings no.

You can do OK if you enjoy a 70 hr week. But that’s the same as earning poor money as you are doing two full time jobs almost.

I disagree, I have had 3 job offers in the last month that I turned down as the wage worked out less than I get at ESL.

Is that not the norm for tramping generally?

haribo4000:
I usually work 50 hours a week, my wages are split on day and night rate due to my start time. And I take home just shy of £900 a fortnight. Not bad to say most of my day is spent asleep on the back shelf. Best of all I get to wear a nice green shirt and shiny belt.

Is that take home AFTER tax pal?

why are your wages split by start time■■?..quoting my boss when i said 1300 was a ■■■■■ nightshift start time “any start 12 noon to midnight is nights”

At stobarts night shifts are 11am to 11pm starts. I start at midnight therefore classed as a day driver. I only get night rate till 6am.

Scrappy:
Hi just a quick one does anyone know roughly how much does a stobart night shift class 1 driver take home a week? Thanks

Start@ say 8pm what approx finish times

How the hell can somebody starting a shift@ 11am be called a night driver and one starting@ midnight be called a daydriver  :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused:

I usually finish between 10am and 2pm. Varies really.

It also confuses me. I was offered an 11pm start but was told my start time would be 11:01pm, therefore still making me a day driver as there was no room for another night driver. work that out.

which depot are you from haribo??..i was told only last week by the boss that nights was 12 noon to midnight…days is midnight to noon.

I can only assume that this varies dependant on depot. Same as wages.

Bloody hell midnight til 2pm that would kill me,
better pass the Redbull :exclamation: :exclamation: :grimacing:

I get it a bit handier,
Start anywhere from 630pm til 930pm and finish 430am til 730am, usually an 8/11 hour 5day shift, easy work and take home about £400 which pays the bills.
Both Tesco/Sainsburys DC’s only 14mile from my front door too. :sunglasses:

Stobarts can’t stay away long enough out of NI.
