Stobart (Motherwell) - a shameful rate of pay

It seems Stobbie pays Vehicle Wash Operatives more than drivers :grimacing:

as its £7.75 p.h for a driver,£7.72 for a wash opo,£11.12 p.h for a driver sunday,£10.46 p.h for a washer i think your factually wrong, but that still wont stop you trying to twist the facts will it :unamused: :unamused:

So Stobby has given his drivers a payrise. Last I read they were on £7.50. Now you’re on 3p per hour more than the VWOs. And a whole 66p on Sunday. Congratulations.

There is the £13 meal allowance. Which on a 13 hour day equates to another pound an hour. If you think you’re skills are only worth £1.03 per hour more than un-skilled labour and are happy with that then that’s fine.

You can only dream of my wage though :grimacing:

lets get this right :unamused: ,the washers wages are worked out on 10 hr shifts and not on 13 hr shifts,so thats 1.30 p.h more, the f/b is 5.00 per day, another 50 p per hour more ,if you start before 6 a.m you get another 90 p per hour more,a washers working outside in ■■■■ conditions at times, winter, freezing,■■■■■■■ down, snowing etc, etc,i know a few and they certainly dont get paid to sleep :exclamation: :exclamation: ,just a few facts[oh by the way ive never had a hourly rate of 7.50 so i guess you just read it off here and believed it[try not to believe every thing your told, its not always true.
as for your hourly rate dont worry ive had that, your not the only driver whos done agency,i used to get 150 gar off corby for turning up for 5/6 hrs, nightfreight used to pay me 10 hrs gar,+ another 10 hrs for doing a extra trunk that night +50 for dropping a few tyres off at willenhall, been there got the badge,no the score and know how they can cancel you, ring you up at a minutes notice, the week you get one run,etc etc, what do you think ive only ever worked for stobarts, think again

i had the misfortune of having to take my truck into MAN at gateshead yesterday, got shown into the drivers waiting room while they were dealing with the problem on the truck. anyway, in i stroll and say hello to the other driver also waiting in there, he worked for wincantons, we start polite chat and then he starts asking who i work for, do they pay well etc etc, i could see where this was going so i took my phone out to kind of show i wasnt interested in this conversation, but he wasnt giving up, he earns £783 a week, for 45 hours monday to friday, he also says that normally a couple of days of week he only has to come to sign on to his shift and then get sent ome as he is not needed. if he works a sunday he gets £270 and £440 for a bank holiday…then the fitter came and got me, thank god lol

If he saw Neils payslip, Winkerton man would probably tell you he wouldn’t get out of bed for that

neither would i,id feel insulted if all i got was 2.20 meal allowance :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,you couldnt even buy fish+ chips for that, and i bet theyve got him driving fuel efficiently for nothing

No they haven’t. There is no requirement to drive efficiently and there is no monitoring or training, so I don’t lose £3.50 for braking a bit. :stuck_out_tongue: I just drive the truck as I have always driven them.

we all think were hard done by but when you see other peoples pay slips you realise how lucky you are,to work for a company the take your walefare seriously,by giving you £13.00 a day meal allowance to make sure you eat properly, also lucky in the fact in saving money by driving efficiently not only do the company benifit ,you the driver does as well by getting a bonus every dayfrom the company, just hope one day the likes of coffee can get a job where he gets the rewards he deserves

I’m getting the rewards I am happy with and whether I deserve them or not isn’t something I think about, happy beats deserve every time. I don’t spend any of that weekly allowance on food, on some of the days I don’t need to anyway as I get free meals, free dinner yesterday, free breakfast today, both with as much free coffee or soft drinks as I want. I stick that money to one side each week and it taxes my car, £260 for the year, and leaves enough over for a couple of hookers. That is much better than poxy fish and chips. :stuck_out_tongue: :sunglasses:

As for looking after my welfare did you not notice the bit where I got a free day off on the Friday on full pay, which is more than your crappy £13, so I could get my rest before the arduous task of going to Dublin on Sunday. A day which involves about 7 hours actual work but with breaks means I get paid for 14 hours at double time? Now that’s looking out for my welfare. :stuck_out_tongue:

You are often on here complaining about your planner and conversation you have with him. I speak to my planner, the boss, once or twice a week. I never get a phone call asking what time I will be somewhere and sometimes I might not even see him for a few weeks. Some weeks the most contact I have is a text message telling me what I am doing next week and an email when I email in my time sheet on a Sunday or Monday. This afternoon I got a text from him with just two words - “Dublin Sunday.” He got one back that said - “Nice one, cheers,” and that will probably be it until next Friday, I’ll just look at the rota when I get back Monday evening to see what I am doing Tuesday. That’s also worth more than £13 in my book, I’d want a lot more than £13 welfare money for putting up with the stuff you have posted about regarding how you and your truck are run. :stuck_out_tongue:

Coffee! I’m surprised you have bitten so hard on Ady1’s post above!!
He’s tugging your chain mate!
Seems to me your on very good wedge! Especially when Euro work is generally low paid compared to UK work!

I know, I’m only toying with him, it keeps me amused when there is no good new ■■■■ on YouPorn.

I can’t complain, but it 's the same for all the guys at our place and there are three or four taking home more than me but I don’t really want to do what they do. Oh, and I don’t really do Euro work any more, apart from going to Dublin I just do UK stuff.

No need to be so defensive ady1, I’m only yanking your chain. I have defended Stobarts pay in the past. This thread for instance. They pay good pensions too. A rarity to even get one these days. I’m applying to them as soon as I upgrade to +E so they can’t be that bad.

You’re wrong about a few things though.

lets get this right :unamused: ,the washers wages are worked out on 10 hr shifts and not on 13 hr shifts,so thats 1.30 p.h more

While a washer might do 10 hours from your previous posts you’re maxing out your hours so for you personally a £13 bonus for a 13 hour day is £1 per hour.

by the way ive never had a hourly rate of 7.50 so i guess you just read it off here and believed it[try not to believe every thing your told, its not always true.

Stobarts didn’t begin the day you arrived. There’s a pic flying around on here of an old Stobart contract and the day rate is £7.20. I read some time ago it had been raised to £7.50. If it’s now £7.72 then so be it, but it hasn’t always been so.

no idea about wincanton pay rates, but the being sent home paid does happen

Wincanton contracts vary from company to company. I think my old man takes home £1800 odd a month. Thats for a flat 48 hour week, no POA, no over time and £10 per day before 4am start bonus which he gets every 3rd week. I worked it out at around £11.60 per hour a while back.

And yes you can get paid for doing nothing. I went to Christian Salvesen ages ago and they tried to send me out with a driver who I and many others didn’t like (long story but he’s a moron). I refused to go out with him and was sent home. Surprisingly I got paid for it at the end of the week. Easiest money I ever earnt :grimacing:

cant be bothered with reading all the posts but i get the general idea, wouldn’t work for stobbies etc…
£7.20 an hour.

ok plus £1.00 an hour 18.00 - 0600.

plus dring standard bonus £5.00/day
plus meal allowance £13.00/day
plus night out £20.50/night

i also get dirty money £5.00/day.

my hourly pay is slightly higher, but not much due to contract when i started.

i work monday to friday, 3 x 15 hours, 1 x 13 hours, plus approx 1 x 10 hour. 4 nights out.
last years pay was £29,000.
go on work in a warehouse, mcdonalds, etc. leaves more work for me if i wanted the overtime.
