i had the misfortune of having to take my truck into MAN at gateshead yesterday, got shown into the drivers waiting room while they were dealing with the problem on the truck. anyway, in i stroll and say hello to the other driver also waiting in there, he worked for wincantons, we start polite chat and then he starts asking who i work for, do they pay well etc etc, i could see where this was going so i took my phone out to kind of show i wasnt interested in this conversation, but he wasnt giving up, he earns £783 a week, for 45 hours monday to friday, he also says that normally a couple of days of week he only has to come to sign on to his shift and then get sent ome as he is not needed. if he works a sunday he gets £270 and £440 for a bank holiday…then the fitter came and got me, thank god lol
If he saw Neils payslip, Winkerton man would probably tell you he wouldn’t get out of bed for that
neither would i,id feel insulted if all i got was 2.20 meal allowance
,you couldnt even buy fish+ chips for that, and i bet theyve got him driving fuel efficiently for nothing
No they haven’t. There is no requirement to drive efficiently and there is no monitoring or training, so I don’t lose £3.50 for braking a bit.
I just drive the truck as I have always driven them.

we all think were hard done by but when you see other peoples pay slips you realise how lucky you are,to work for a company the take your walefare seriously,by giving you £13.00 a day meal allowance to make sure you eat properly, also lucky in the fact in saving money by driving efficiently not only do the company benifit ,you the driver does as well by getting a bonus every dayfrom the company, just hope one day the likes of coffee can get a job where he gets the rewards he deserves
I’m getting the rewards I am happy with and whether I deserve them or not isn’t something I think about, happy beats deserve every time. I don’t spend any of that weekly allowance on food, on some of the days I don’t need to anyway as I get free meals, free dinner yesterday, free breakfast today, both with as much free coffee or soft drinks as I want. I stick that money to one side each week and it taxes my car, £260 for the year, and leaves enough over for a couple of hookers. That is much better than poxy fish and chips.

As for looking after my welfare did you not notice the bit where I got a free day off on the Friday on full pay, which is more than your crappy £13,
so I could get my rest before the arduous task of going to Dublin on Sunday. A day which involves about 7 hours actual work but with breaks means I get paid for 14 hours at double time? Now that’s looking out for my welfare.

You are often on here complaining about your planner and conversation you have with him. I speak to my planner, the boss, once or twice a week. I never get a phone call asking what time I will be somewhere and sometimes I might not even see him for a few weeks. Some weeks the most contact I have is a text message telling me what I am doing next week and an email when I email in my time sheet on a Sunday or Monday. This afternoon I got a text from him with just two words - “Dublin Sunday.” He got one back that said - “Nice one, cheers,” and that will probably be it until next Friday, I’ll just look at the rota when I get back Monday evening to see what I am doing Tuesday. That’s also worth more than £13 in my book, I’d want a lot more than £13 welfare money for putting up with the stuff you have posted about regarding how you and your truck are run.
