Sam Millar:
I know what my opinion of them is (and it isn’t great) but will be applying for a drive at their Bellshill depot when I get my CE just to get some experience under my belt and on to my CV.
Well, I can tell you, you might as well save getting your C+E then mate, because, they’re not bad rates.
Overtime is disappearing across the industry, being replaced with flat rates, time and a quarter, time and a third, or just banked hours.
If you did a 13hr day on those rates advertised, you could add another £1 an hour to the rate due to the ‘meal allowance’, so £8.75 / hr (after the 12mths obviously) for hours between 6 and 6 mon - fri, which again, nobody does, 4am starts are pretty common, so that’s 2hrs at a higher rate, weekends are pretty standard across Stobarts - which is 1 of the things that’d put me off - so that’s 2 days at higher rates.
As ady1 has said in other places, it’s only holiday time when you’ll actually notice the poor rates, depending what you’re guarenteed, you’ll get say 50hrs @ the lowest rate (£7.75 after 12mths) which is still £375 per week, as holiday pay.
If you think C+E pays more for anyone else, I’d retrain into something else, because that’s about right now unfortunately.
Oh the rates don’t bother me, that’s not an issue.

Ahh, sorry about that, I misunderstood.
When going for a job, don’t tell them you don’t like the firm though
Ive never admitted this before, but a couple of years ago I did a few weeks for ESL and I thought they were pretty ok. The planners were polite and helpful, and all in all I thought they looked after me well. I got offered a full time job but refused because of other reasons. (I prefer agency work to being employed). Dont believe all you hear on here from folks who`ve never had any dealings with Eddy but jump on the bandwagon of slagging them off.
OVLOV JAY:
So they don’t even get an ot rate■■? Only a premium for the old fashioned dark money
as i explained elsewhere your o/t rate is actually less than your flat rate
7.75 x10
7.75x 15
but if you include your m/all-fuel bonus
13.00 div 10
13.00 div 15
+
5.00 div 10
5.00 div 15
so as you can see if you do 10 hrs your m/a adds a extra 1.30 to your hourly rate, but if you do a 15 hr shift it only adds 86 p to your hourly rate, which is why alot wont work o.t ,not for less than they get for flat hours.
n.b i added m/a on as for a few years they gave your pay rise only on your m/a,not basic, that way you got a tax free pay rise
Whats the latest news on the “fast eddie” get rich quick with our O/D,Franchise scam, sorry scheme ? Seems to have “died a death” or has the scheme been fully subscibed and the mugs, sorry Frachisees, will be hitting the road shortly to the land of “milk and honey” and the “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow !!

no i think theyve found other ways of taking costs out of the buisness,
how much money have you got on you ,£10 +some change, your o.k to go over the dartford crossing then,as there no money on the darts and youll have to pay ,where will it all end
I’m a bus driver on £10.25 basic, done tippers in the past, just passed class 1 and willing to take the pay cut to stobbies because at least the Tesco groceries can’t talk to you like ■■■■/smoke/take the ■■■■
Lol

And my reply would be “it’s ok, I’m paid by the hour, I’ll use the blackwall/woolwich”

Hourly rate is not always the best way to judge a jobs take home pay. You will probably take home much more for class 1/stobbies than driving a bus.

I would rather have a decent wage for a 42 hour week rather than the extra hundred quid from working max hours and sleeping in the truck ta.

What firms paying a decent take home wage for a 42hr week with no nights out■■?
AsphaltAnimal:
Don’t want to do tramping as I have a young baby, as yer man said above the night shifts pay more than my gross now
Having a young baby is a good reason to do tramping in my book.
My tramping job works well cos I work max hrs, 15hr days and 9 hr rest and always home mid week. Not wasting time commuting to work or working silly 8hr shifts.

Take home of £400 p/w (£13p/h flat rate) for class two four-on/four-off. I know I could earn more p/w at fast eddie’s but I like a bit of home life. Although as with all things in transport it isn’t what it seems. For one, we run an hours bank so no ot (you get the time back in lieu days or finishing early) and although when you look at the fixed week it is 4x36 hours, 4x48, avg 42, realistically speaking you take your week as the four days you are in so it’s usually 46-50 hours per week, but you get four days off in the same week so it more than compensates. Downsides are silly o’clock in the morning starts and working 50% of weekends.
As with anything it is horses for courses, some people might put a premium on having every weekend at home or would sooner sleep in the truck rather than waste time travelling home to grunt at the kids and go straight to bed. I do know that I would rather be on this rota than on some 5 from 7 ■■■■■■■■ that has you only getting one weekend off every six weeks or something like that.

I work Wednesday to Saturday and get Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off every week. I’m on £10p/h and I’m home every night.
I tried Tramping but didn’t like it because I’ve got kids at home that I want to see grow up.
I love my job!
