You need to google Doncaster Tesco. Look what happened there. All the regular full time Tesco drivers went on strike, Stobart didn’t give a [zb] and used agency. Eventually the full timers either caved in or quit.
Stobart won.
No the truth is a lot of stobart drivers went through that picket and used the excuse we were threatened , wouldn’t have a job etc , some just were well up for a good old set too, send me there ,I don’t give a zb , let them try and stop me ,
Then you had agency who said they had no choice , if they didn’t do it they wouldn’t have work
I refused , to be honest I couldn’t give a [zb] whether it was tesco or a joe blogs picket line , I was never going through it ( dad / uncle fell out over picket line and I’d swore I’d never cross one .
Unlike how people portray stobarts ( and I do at times ) ,no pressure was put on me , I told them I would not cross a picket line and reasons why , no problem ,they accepted it and any time there was a picket line I was put on other work , to be honest I got more hassle off other stobart drivers wanting to know why I was not being sent to donny .
The same applies if there’s picket lines at coop depots ,I won’t be crossing them ,going near them , not that I agree with them , I just won’t be crossing there’s or anyone’s picket line , if others want to let them do it , there choice , my choice not to .
I’m still not convinced they won’t be Tuped over , I know plenty on old contracts ,
I was the same when Tesco Livingston went on strike. We were offered silly money to cross the picket line and I turned it down every time. I wont work for co op but we do deliver there every day. I rarely do that run but if they have a national strike (justified in my opinion under the circumstances) then I wont cross the picket line

I agree with Mr N/Donkey,once Stobarts get it its a race to the bottom.Thumbs up for the lads considering action. But its a done deal.I’d never dress in green like a Christmas elf.plus I couldn’t afford to. Wife’s got bad spending habit,■■■■■
I’m not sure if you think we eat at soup kitchens, buy our clothes at charity shops and wash them in the local stream and live in cardboard boxes but we don’t
My mrs loves her new cars , tanning sessions ,hols abroad , London shopping / theatre w/ end breaks with her mates , etc etc , and we seem to be able to pay for this ok on top of my year old car , paid for detached house , football, pub , meals etc , etc .
I’m interested inknowing what this bad spending habit your mrs has , thought my mrs had most things covered but obviously not.
And she has her own job and spending money right? Surely you can’t be that dozy
Always said to my missus. Separate bank accounts, joint account for paying household bills/rent etc. Guess how many arguments we have about money… (It’s still loads )
been a follower on here for a while. Thought I would finally join. Just on this is it a stobart thing or would the fears be the same if it was one of the bigger 3pls, ceva,DHL,coo, wincanton etc.

Yes you can earn a decent wage mate, but the point is how many hours are you having to put in to get that decent/living wage?
There are plenty of other jobs and careers where you only have to work a 37-40 hour week to get the same money.
Yes you may be able to afford to do the things you want, but do you get the time to do them and have the same quality of life?
I’d suggest not…
P.S. Not got a missus, so that’s probably 10k a year I’m saving! Plus I don’t have to kip on the sofa!
can you give me some examples of the plenty of the 37 / 40 hour jobs / careers that are paying the same as a driver getting up towards maxing hours out? particularly ones that you don’t need to do a couple of years at college or go to uni, or a job that require x amount of years working your way up

This is 2016 not 1960, it most houses now the mrs works be it full time / par time , the days of the bloke going out to work only / bread winner whilst the mrs stops at home cleaning and breeding are a distant memory , they wanted equality and they’ve got it.
So yes my mrs works , full time , but her money doesn’t get used , just saved , we don’t need it , we have no mortgage , anything we have is paid cash for , I think the only regular bills are c/ tax , w rates which I pay extra on at bank / p/ office , I pay extra every month so normally finished in 8 months / not 10 , there’s car insurance but that’s only £150 apx per year
We don’t argue , if she wants something / or to do something she just does it , I just have raised eye brows whilst looking at cost , but as long as we can afford it , paid cash , you only live once I guess .
I still think your getting your knickers in a twist as o believe you’ll be tuped over , I do understand you frustrations over having a good job, t&c that you may loose , my post was in response to you wont be able to live on STOBARTS wages , 1000,s do , and none I know are on the poverty line , or not as far as I’m aware anyway
I still struggle wit the it’s STOBARTS fault , coop,s fault , tesco fault , low paid drivers fault etc etc for all there woes, these drivers have had bloody good jobs which they should of looked after , in a lot of circumstance it been I’m contracted to this / that and that’s what I’m doing , I remember a manager of a store telling me a driver refusing to take a load of rsu because one cage had a bit of plastic in it , another saying he hadn’t rang the bell to inform the shop he was there as it wasn’t his job ( this commes from a frustrated shop manager )
Instead of winjing at STOBARTS , tesco etc , low paid driverslook after your bloody jobs , go the extra mile , etc etc then these companies wouldn’t be looking to out source your jobs

.Here in Midlands plenty company where normaly shift just 8-10 hours and just some time long shift. And at Coop in Coventry as well was not long shift .Mainly drivers do one drop and swap and this taked up to 8 hours. If they give second run that can be about 12 hours.I was worked at this COop from agency couple time .Easy job but short shift and everyday COOP cancel to many booked drivers. For this reason agency drivers was without interes work long time there.

i’ve no idea if this is the case here, but totally agree in general on this sort og gig. if you have a good number, look after it, so it’s less likely the company will want to change anything.

Not sure where you got the idea that I was saying you could just walking into a job unskilled and earn over, say 25-30k! Especially as I said “other careers”… Of course you generally have to work your way up to these sorts of figures, I didn’t say that you wouldn’t! My point was that if you are highly money motivated, driving probably isn’t for you, as to get that money, you won’t have time to spend it!
Some may have got into driving when wages were better, but if they didn’t see that there would be a ceiling on the earnings, they were clearly very short sighted. Also there is nothing to stop someone retraining to do something else, where within a few years they probably be earning more, and only doing 37-40 hours. In summary, my point was about making a decent wage, and in driving it’s possible, but there is a price to pay for it…
