Stobart imobalised vehicle

I talk about the accident as I learnt so much about myself, to be honest about a year later it near finished me off, if what I went through can help someone I am more than willing to communicate and talk.

But surely it was up for question if Drift mentioned it in a post about trailers and stobarts, I know a couple of drivers who have been involved with non fault fatality on the road but if they had, I would of asked them about it, just like pimp did.

I was told once imagine every load is on a flatbed if you think it will fall off then strap it!! In Europe you got to strap it anyway don’t matter what trailer it’s on

Seems VOSA have brainwashed quite a few drivers over the last few years.

dont think its brain washing common sense really what would you rather do 20 mins strapping or 20 mins explaining why your load fell off

Like 52 pallets of crisps are gonna come through the curtains on a roundabout, VOSA are only in it for the money.

but you’ll strap the back 4 pallets wouldn’t you or cross bar it if running a boarded trailer? Not agreeing with vosa never have and never will, But a bit of common sense will come in handy sometimes, I got pulled in Belgium once with 3 coils on loaded out of Tata steel 4 straps on each and they won’t let you go unless strapped correct and the copper said he could fine me 1000 euros as he said I needed 6 on each, making ■■■■ up out there but he let me off with a warning as I was just outside Kalo docks where I was tipping and no cash no go out there mate.

Can’t see this test them afterwards thing - what do they do, wang them round corners and see if that pack of bricks comes out the side?

Surely the curtains are made to a spec and then built into the trailer.

The design has to be tested. There is a standard set of tests. A pressure test with a giant airbag followed by three on track tests at specific speeds carried out three times. These are a single turn that generates 0.5g, an ‘S’ bend that generates 0.5g each way then an emergency stop to 0.8g. All these are done three times at 30 - 40 kph. The trailer is fully loaded with an unstable load (usually crates of beer) at full payload. The tests are laid down in guidance.

The trailers need outriggers on them to stop them tipping up.

My understanding is the trailers stobart has are specifically built for them and although they should meet the ‘XL’ standard haven’t been tested. The tests take a bit of organising I would imagine. Once tested all trailers built to that design get the certificate.

Apart from that, the curtains aren’t the the main issue - it’s the whole trailer body and construction. No point hanging a reinforced curtain from a flimsy structure.

EDIT: I typed all that and posted it not realising someone had posted a video … Never mind

Glad you did - all interesting stuff(well to me anyway). Ta.

Yes common sense on load security, which is judged by someone who has probably never driven a truck, and who has probably no idea the weights of the pallets he/she is judging to be insecure.
Then there is the case of forcing drivers to open up trailers they want to check for load security, which they make out they have the right to do in there guidence video, which they dont, the only time they have the right is if there is evidence of an insecure load from the outside, like bulges in the curtains, and I doubt any of the 26 pallets of soft drinks will be in that sort of position to warrant VOSA to stop them on a random load check, even the police can’t ask for a trailer to be opened to be checked without good reason.

Immigrant:
How to strap Milk,or are Fridge exempt? Well,we have Courtainsider Fridge too, with Straps :grimacing:

BAR RESTRAINTS

But you can’t carry a bar restraint round in your bag for the time you pick up the trailer and there’s no bar restraint in it ,

First I heard about this was around 8weeks ago and it’s still happening? Stobarts are still driving loads around unsecured. They obviously don’t give a [zb] about DVSA guidelines. Stobarts way or the highway…

DVSA should report them to the local traffic commissioner as an unsafe operator and have their o’licence heavily curtailed  throw a cat in amongst the pigeons just for a laugh.

I’ve not seen all these pulled trucks to be honest and they show no intrest in me , but if your all saying it’s happening then who am I to argue , but it could be other things , I had to sign for a memo last week that was basically telling you your card must stay in at all times , when I asked what it was about , t.o said 50 ( mate was told 30 ) teeesport drivers had been pulling there cards to get back , now getting done , so maybe drivers are being pulled for more than just one reason .
N.b I’m amazed there’s 30/50 drivers there as I only see 3/4/5 trucks when I go in there , but that’s the sp from our office , and in her words make sure your bloody card stays in at all times
