VOSA imobalised stobart vehicle at Lancaster services for insecure load, drive had strapped back 2 pallets, result wheel clamped £100 fine had to get new straps out to the driver before he can commence his journey. Load hadn’t moved an inch all the way from Carlisle. Be warned boys Strap it or Pay Up…!
Point 1 - thought this was company policy, and that they cover any fines, as has been mentioned on here previously several times
Point 2 - driver should always have a set of straps with him, this is the company’s duty
Point 3 - aren’t they paid hourly? If so, no skin off the drivers nose
How to strap Milk,or are Fridge exempt? Well,we have Courtainsider Fridge too, with Straps
You wonder what he will have done if the load needed fully strapping . Not just leagally
I just tryed to say “Buy Box Trailer”
Actually,How is it with Box Trailers who have moving Sidewalls? (Just move the Elements like Gates to load/unload from Side?)
Why need strapped all pallets if trailers have En12642Xl.May be in this trailers was gap between load and curtainsiders more for 80 mil or was double stacked pallets or some specific load?
All the Stobart boys are told to strap the load if they think its needs doing. But i am aware they have an issue with one member of dvsa who is an ex employee and works between preston and carlisle. This is truth and not some rdc bs you hear getting talked about.
Im not a stobart lover or hater but they must be getting pretty ■■■■■■ off now , they seem to get pulled at Carlisle on an almost daily basis, its getting to the point where theres more stobarts in there than irish fridges !
The driver wont be arsed.
Stobart’s pay the fine.(As long as the back 2 are strapped).

Think the driver may be looking for a new job, sure to face a diseplinary
Why would the driver face a disciplinary?
He/She has done as instructed, and strapped the 2 rear pallets. It’s almost impossible to get disciplined at Stobart’s.
Trust me, it’s the hardest job in the world to get sacked from. Managed it in the end though.
First I heard about this was around 8weeks ago and it’s still happening? Stobarts are still driving loads around unsecured. They obviously don’t give a ■■■■ about DVSA guidelines. Stobarts way or the highway…
DVSA should report them to the local traffic commissioner as an unsafe operator and have their o’licence heavily curtailed throw a cat in amongst the pigeons just for a laugh.

I admire dedication in a man.
It wilL be interesting Merc to see how it pans out. This has been going on for months that I know of, might even be a year or two.
All very well telling the drivers to crack on and they will pay the fine for them, but ultimately you are correct IMO regarding the TC.
The law seems pretty clear to me regarding curtainsiders. Curtains should be treated as weather protection only, unless they are the XL load bearing type, and any pallet over 400 kgs must be strapped down. All very well doing the math, and working out labour cost’s versus fines, but I reckon the law will be forced to make an example of them if this carries on.
LATE EDIT; Cheers Maoster! There was a time where I was becoming a bit of a driver’s hero with my deliberate insubordination.

If the driver is given £100 penalty it means an immediate PG9 has been issued. All such prohibitions are posted directly to the operator AND copied to the appropriate TC. Therefore nobody needs report them to the TC - it’s already happened.
I saw quite a few Stobarts on the M62 this week that had the yellow XL markings - so they do have XL trailers but I reckon some of them just aren’t marked up but are to the XL standard- DVSA will treat it as not XL in that case.

I heard you get a ‘file note’ or disciplined for the pettiest of things at Eddie Stobart. Speaking from experience I know it’s very hard to get a job with them
The company probably has no more crashes per mile run than any other operator, but with such a huge annual fleet mileage it is only a matter of time before one of them results in a serious injury or worse to a third party, which is directly attributable to this policy about securing loads.
Then the dog will see the rabbit.

Is this true? Because I had a load of small pallets on (about 25 of the buggers, only a rigid) and just said “Eff this”. Only 5 straps in the bleeding vehicle! Didn’t bother to strap because I knew the curtain would take any movement, and the truck isn’t good at cornering anyway (the best are the sort where you can powerslide the back end and really turn it in ).
Stamper:
Is that because lorry driver’s are 10 a penny?
Probably
