How is that so, because the last time I looked, wagon driver’s were getting a very paltry wage packet. It was something like £7-10 p/h. Surely that doesn’t signify a driver shortage?

Delivered a DCPC course today and had a DVSA officer sitting on the course. I enquired about this Stobart/DVSA thing and he confirmed ‘lots’ of £100 penalty and PG9’s have been issued.
He had been told that although the SDC trailers Stobart uses were of a sufficient specification to be awarded the ‘XL’ standard SDC couldn’t/wouldn’t put the XL sticker on until the actual tests had been carried out and a certificate of conformity issued.
He reckoned this had now been done and Stobarts are slowly adding the XL stickers. Meanwhile DVSA are carrying on pulling them.
Surely the trailers are manufactured to XL standards in the factory. I didn’t realise they built them first, then tested them afterwards to see if they meet the standards to be able to issue certificates and put yellow stickers on the curtains. Also why would SDC sell their trailers if they weren’t fully tested and certified beforehand. Still think there is another reason they are constantly getting tugged by vosa.
I understood for the last couple of years all new trailers had to come with a certificate of conformity before they went on the road.
Unless they had a certificate of conformity which didn’t meet EN 12642XL because they hadn’t been tested to that level, but now they have so can issue it retrospectively.
I wouldnt give a flying poopy what company policy is, I strap/secure a load to what I think is required and some more.
