Stobart drivers on go slow

I was talking to a stobbie driver in manchester yesterday told me they have now had there wages cut from a guaranteed 50 hrs a week to 45 and now they are having to work there half hour dinner,he said up to 3 weeks ago he used to average 42 hours a week and get paid the guaranteed 50 now they have cut this to 45 hours and been made to work there lunch i.e start at 6 finish at 3,30 get paid 9hours they have also been told that there will be no overtime available and planners are to use agency if needed so they dont go over there 45 hours? He said majority of drivers are slowing down and urges all off them to do same as tesco drivers 50mph,he said they are just getting ■■■■■■ off by stobbie ■■■■ 300 trampers gone now day and night drivers losing out sounds like they are trying to ■■■■ them off to me so they dont have to get rid off them

Well I was going about 41 on a 40 limit for hgvs’s today and a Stobby went flying past so he definetly wasn’t on a go slow was he.

Still better than most firms.

I go in there on agency and if I did his shift my pay would only be 8.75hrs as they deduct the full 45 off us.

I can understand why a company would not want to pay for work hours not actually done

I can also understand that a minimum amount of hours should be set for full time employees

Are there many firms which pay for lunch breaks? - I don’t think so but am prepared to be educated on that

I thought the idea of getting rid of trampers was to utilise the vehicles 24/7 in which case that would need more drivers to fill the extra on road vehicle time … wouldn’t it?

Can’t see how they are being made to “work their lunch” as you said they start at 9.00 finish 3.30 thats 9 1/2 hours, paid 9, so lunch is not worked. I have never been in a job where you get paid for lunch so can’t see the problem, apart from the reduction in hours

Here we go again :unamused: …let battle commence.

Not sure about a go-slow, they break up a journey to get the truck washed.

  1. The 50 hours to 45 hours is for 3months I think! Jan/Mar!
  2. Only applies I believe to General Fleet! Reduction was a compromise to save more redundancies! Apparently!
  3. A go slow! More like a “Let’s get the ■■■■ home so!”

None of the ones who passed me on the M6 and M1 last night were on a go slow. I was in a vehicle which does an indicated 91kph and practically the only trucks to pass me last night were NI registered or Stobart.

I assume they were Stobbie Volvos Neil! They fly past me in the Scania most nights aswell when I’m on 89 on cruise! I want to waste fuel too! :grimacing:

?

We get 50hr basic, and this is from start to finish, no subtractions for breaks. approx time and a 3rd there after.

I know alot of companies subtract breaks, some give dinner allowance in lue. I also heard off firms not paying any break periods, paying just driving and POA.

From my perspective, i’m still at my employers premises, if you count the truck as such. When I worked at a builders merchant and could slip home or off premises during dinner that was different, though they would pay for the lunch time if I was on the road at lunch time, but then I might’ve only reguired 30 mins if I’d stopped earlier and would only take what was reguired.

I think some driver take the ****, so I can see why some Employers might want to cut dinners out.

As for Stobbies cutting hours, well I dont like that, but if they were genuinly doing it to save lay off’s, then surely they would be able to offer overtime to those permanent drivers. but to get agengy in for overtime seems like a hidden agender, or just bizare

Not really. If the Stobart drivers do runs and shifts of 8 - 9 hours and the next runs will be the same they can’t give it to the Stobart drivers as OT because they couldn’t legally do it, so agency it is. They want to keep the vehicle working as many hours as possible which is why they have got rid of the trampers, it ain’t earning parked in a lay-by for 9 hours.

Oh yes hadnt thought of that. though surely not all runs are a full shift, some shifts might consist off several short runs. wouldve thought a few hours overtime might help morale

yea i was asked this by a couple of green fleet drivers if wed had our gaurenteed hrs reduced to 45 hrs, told them us fridge drivers still get our gaurunteed 55 hrs p.w :  : ,then disapeared quick

stobarts bank balance isnt very healthy if you check out their finances.
like everyone else in this industry, cash flow problems.

any driver who thinks a general haulage firm can run its drivers on 9 hrs a day is living in cloud cuckoo land. what are you going to do give the drivers from sherburn a manchester to do then a coke shunt, thats their day finished. :bulb: :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

this plan of stobarts is doomed to fail and by the spring they will be wanting trampers again.

in a ideal world our lot want you doing 50 hrs[thats what your gauranteed],but truck driving is not a exact science so they keep juggling and its 70/80 hrs one minute,40 hrs the next, you can keep telling the driver youve worked it all out and he should be doing 50 hrs all you want, but you know what drivers are like for playing there little games    :stuck_out_tongue:
