Stobart Automotive Drivers

Thanks Dozy lol

It’s good money but very complicated. I was tramping Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Friday. Three months into the job, £600+ take home was not unusual.

I only left as I was involved in a major motorway accident with another lorry (not my fault in any way) and loading/strapping cars after that was extremely painful.

:grimacing: thank you Judehamish

I was on a seven car semi-trailer. The experienced blokes on 11 plus who put the hours in take over £700 home.

Paid stand-down money also to avoid going over WTD regs, guaranteed hours, and sick pay at £341 a week.

I have been offered 4 on 4 off which will be less money I am sure but will suit with family etc.

Hi judehamish, what did you roughly take home on the 7 car semi trailer if you don’t mind me asking, also if you know what did the men on days earn?

He’s written it down in post #22

I was on 10 car transporters with them on 4 on 4 off, training pay £106 a day plus meal allowance this lasts for 3 months, when i finished i was earning £400+ a wk but can be up and down you are paid for all your driving hours and 9 mins loading and unloading cars on 10 car transporter, 7 mins on semi trailers, parking paid for on account at Welcome Break & Moto I left because i was offered a job nearer to where i live and it is salaried so stable income every week. I enjoyed my time at Stobarts and there training is spot on.

Thx daz1972 did you do many nights away? Was that £400 take home?

When on 4 on 4 off you are away for the 3 nights then routed back to base on your 4th day I was teamed up with another driver using same truck always tried to help each other by loading up ready for when he started his 4 shifts on and he did the same for me and yes £400 was take home. I enjoyed it nice balance of work and time off, I have two kids, but as I have said I left because I was offered a job on my front door which is salaried a lot of advantages managed to sell a second car I had work Mon-Fri but generally only out 2 nights. Stobarts were good and I will not slag them off like a lot do there training is good, put you up in hotel for a week in Widnes all paid for then I had training at Kirk Sandall, Doncaster again couldn’t fault the guys there all in all I enjoyed my experience with them, but circumstances change and opportunity’s arise.

Same as Daz, I don’t have a bad word to say about them. Was paid sick money when I wasn’t entitled to it as my length of service wasn’t long enough, training was really good too. It’s an extremely good job.

be here since the walon days then autologic now stobart nothing has changed still on walon 2 agreement which is far too complex to post on here basics are 9 min per vehicle on and off plus 9 min per extra drop and seven min per tranship car money is roughly £3.70 per car 1.5 times for van 4x4 people carrier etc and 2.5 for large van and abasic driving rate time and a half after eight hours and all sat double on sun £25 per night out £5 meal allowance . £34 k before nights out should be easily achievable after a few months plus standown paid at £106 per day to keep hours under 48 average. 25 days hol + bank hols. 4 on 4 0ff drivers earn between £29 and £32k a year as far as I know days and nights available out of some depots hope this helps

Hi I worked for them just after they took over from autologic, as another person has said earlier training was spot on and if your unsure about things the trainer is on the end of a phone and will do a couple of runs with you to make sure you’re ok. Pay wise I was tramping and took home 500 - 600 sometimes depending on what runs you had again I was on walon 2 which if you can get on is a good pay system very long and a little complicated but good. The only reason I left was base was to far away from home and homelife began to suffer etc so wife and kids won on that one. Car transporters are a marmite job you either love or hate it personally I enjoyed it and stobarts so good luck with what you choose.

Thank you everyone for your replies, it is appreciated.

Obviously you would have know the full facts of shifts, hours etc ,but reading some of the wages that are being mentioned they seem to be on a lot less £400 take home p.w or no more at 5/600 p.w take home p.w or p.a than a run of the meal day shift driver doing a bit of tesco/ chilled/ containers etc ,really does surprise me as the impression I was given was they were on ££££££££ more p.wwhich you would want ,expect doing car transporters .

Hi, yes I know it is another Eddie thread but I was wondering if anyone on here works for them. I do not want to hear any rants as we make our own assumptions of the company we work for. I used to work for Mainland car deliveries many moons ago and really enjoyed the job. I have recently applied and been offered a position with Stobart Automotive working 4 on 4 off in the south of England. It all sounds ok and the wage structure is that similar to MCD’s but I am curious as to average pay of previous and current employees. I currently work for the NHS ambulance service and love the job but rota changes and increased pressures and no pay rise for past 6 years are killing me lol. Can anyone help? :grimacing:

Back, paying the £50 per o/t shift bonus if that makes the job more appealing

The Shifts are 4 on 4 off or tramping or day or nights so all that you may expect really or they were. Ref the take home as I said earlier I regularly took home in excess 500 a week sometime 600 as the walon 2 agreement is as I also said a decent one I know they were on about starting a new agreement that all the others were to say he least “not looking forward to” but whether they did or not I cant say. You can earn V Good Money on transporters but its hard graft not just drive on and off you go there is all sorts to think about when loading nd then the fact of whether you need to tranship at different stops and so on plus then play the height adjustment game which is harder than it looks and so could take a couple of hours to possibly 3 hours load when you first start (I have seen it and been there) but then gets better as you go on and soon down to about 45 mins to an hour for a full 11 car load. As I said its a marmite job but if you like a challenge go for it.

I used to work for them out of portbury. I left last may to go to carlsons.
The pay is low by industry average. The terms and conditions are very good though. So depends what your priorities are.
Trampers are earning roughly £600 per week take home. 4x4 lads are doing roughly 500. You will hear of lads earning a lot more and it’s true but they are a very small group of high earners. Most do NOT get that money.

I heard it was more like £900/week for anyone, that’s why I wanted it, glad i didn’t get the job if the figures you’ve quoted are accurate, it’s possible to get that sort of money doing an easier job & sleep in your own bed every day/night.

Couple of things to bear in mind.

It takes years to really learn the job, it’s productivity paid, you won’t earn top money straight away and like any job you have to earn your spurs.

Remember some of the figures being quoted are for 4 on 4 off, the 5 day week lads seldom if ever do a 6th (weekend) shift.

Also car transport lads usually quote money earned, they do not normally include night out or expense pay in their wages, nor should anyone else but many do.

You are quite right that the money has fallen behind, no real increases to shout about for about the 6 years of the recession, however there is a serious shortage of transporter drivers and its getting worse and its going to get worse still as so many of the skilled staff are getting on a bit, and as many of us have done, have found themselves very welcome in other specialised work and got out, those who didn’t ■■■■ the money up the wall when it was top flight don’t need to put themselves through it again.

IMO those who skill themselves up will be there when the inevitable better terms and conditions arrive as companies bid for the dwindling skill set, it’s not a job that can be done on the cheap, many have tried including the company we speak of, it doesn’t work and it never will work.
