Dozy the fact that your happy to find you are taking home slightly more than someone working in a unskilled position behind a counter of a supermarket (no offence bobs daughter, btw who is bobs daughter and who’s bob ) is the reason why Stobarts get away with paying ■■■■ a ■■■■■ rate of pay…

Dozy speaketh the truth. I was at soapy Joes getting the ethnics to wash my car at the weekend when I popped into Morrisons, the manager was looking very flustered and was being cared for by the security guards, straight away I suspected that Dozy had been at the root of it all.
How’s things at Easton ,think I may take the redundancy route ,my give it a go there ,flats don’t appeal to me ,had enough trouble getting the cover on my erde camping trailer never mind roping and sheeting a 40 ft tri
and as for finding building sites I’m going too struggle as I tried to update my maps on my Tom/tom classic on pc but lost everything
.
You might be thinking oh no ,but if you look after me I’ll tell them moaster put me in contact so you’ll get £200 for recommending a freind
Dozart went into Morrisons and asked how much their till jockeys are on ?
That’s awesome
Good point Dozy. We’ll go 50/50 dude.
why does anyone work for stobarts for such low money ?
i did appleton a while ago and told the creep in the office were to shove his knob, as he tried to do me out of 15 mins time, they went through everything i did to cut my booking time down, i felt like a criminal, not to mention all there health and safety bolox
sitting in a room watching bolox having to sign up for a camera and agreeing to be charged for a replacement should it get damaged or lost in your care etc, there a bunch of toss pots or its just me i am to old school for all this bolox
they even have the cheek to tell me i can not smoke in there cabs

Nothing fuels are good argument for truckers than wage comparison and Stobarts drivers. Throw them both together and you really have an interesting read haha.I don’t think the wages quoted above are quite right now either. Sure they have just changed as of this month. Think the contract is based on 45 hours now too. Not that you’ll ever do that but it saves them about £170 for every week you take off.
I have an interview at Widnes Tesco tomorrow after passing at their academy a couple weeks ago. I’ll give some more info tomorrow if anyones actually arsed now?
My opinion is they are a pretty good place to start driving. Some good perks; very good pension, free uniform (about £300 worth when you start). The tax free allowances you get equate to about £6k per year if they were salaried. That tops up what you earn to a “decent” wage. And I know I’ll be driving a Scania which is a year old max.
How did your interview at tesco go?
Phil1979:
And I know I’ll be driving a Scania which is a year old max.
The chances of that are pretty slim, I heard from someone that some of the scanias are knocking on 5yrs old, there are a lot of tesco axors & a few Daf CFs in tesco Widnes. Agency drivers get to drive the few new scanias most of the time.

Went well mate. Was offered the job which is a relief as a new driver. Rates of pay are as was quoted earlier. worked it all out with meal allowance and it works out just under £10ph weekdays. 45 hour contract which you will always do more than. More like 60 hours a week and always overtime opportunities for more.
Scania’s are mostly 12 plates. Nothing older, but the fella did say they were a bit battered. Apparently agency drivers treat them like ■■■■ (cue the arguments).
All in all I think I’ll cut my teeth here. Get the experience then hunt for a better paid job doing less hours.

WOW. I’d never have guessed you’d been brainwashed… Sorry, I mean trained… at their acadamy
I’ve done Stobarts MANY times as an agency driver, who the hell told you that the Scania will be a year old max? They’ve definitely got older, even in the Tesco Widnes depot. And you better hope you never have to drive the ‘road-train’ if you worry about the age and make of the vehicle - they’re about 2008 I think…
A uniform advertises the company, so why is it WORTH £300■■ Would you spend £300 on other clothes to work in if you weren’t in their uniform■■?

How have I been brainwashed? I’ve already said I’ll cut my teeth there and then move on. Hardly implies I’ve bought in to anything does it?
I then also corrected myself saying the trucks are 2012’s.
And yes I’d probably spend about £300 on Boots, waterproofs, gloves, shirts , jumpers, etc. The fact they give you everything you’ll need to wear suits me fine as I then have to buy ■■■■ all. I’m happy to advertise the company if decent clothing is free. Not hard that is it?

Hi,
I’m looking to apply at stobart said soon once I get my class 1. You say they told you about a 45 hours contract but you will always do more. Just wondering, do HAVE to do more or do you get a choice in the matter? Don’t get me wrong I’m prepared to all the hours thrown at me, certainly in my first HGV job, but sometimes if I want to make other plans I might like a say in it now and again. In my current job if I’m told I’m doing overtime I’m doing it. No choice in the matter. So in this, can you just do your contracted hours some weeks and that’s it??
Does anyone know what the stobart pension is like? Worth the paper it’s written on or better to opt out and sort a private one out yourself?
What percent do you pay into it and what do the company pay in?
sportmartyn:
Thinking about applying for Stobart at Appleton. I like general haulage and am not bothered about long hours. Ive heard planners can nag but not too fussed about that either.Does anyone know the current day rate? I know its not amazing but with the food allowance and other bonuses im sure its not meant to work out that bad. It was £7 odd back in 2010. Does anyone know if it has gone up?
Cheers
Don’t. I’ve just left. 5 of us started and I was the last of all 5 to leave. I lasted 5 weeks. They mess you around like you won’t belive. All drivers from stobarts will tell you that Appleton is the worst depot to work for. Cab hopping too.
Trucker8oy:
It was mentioned on here somewhere that a tramper takes away 600+. all the big players pay similar wages its just like i say its all about Ts+Cs
I’m taking home 500 and I’m home every night (well morning. I work afternoons.)
Also if a stobby driver did 15 hours every day, the only day he’d earn more than me is Sunday. And only then at the 13 hour mark.
Consider the fact I can do a 5 hour shift!
And I only drive rigids!

this week I’ve done 7.5 hrs ,8 hrs ( pulled me back as drivers sat round for hours with no trucks ) ,first day they wanted me to pick litter up in yard for 1/2 hr ( I refused point blank ),planner told me depot boss had told him too make me sit in canteen until I’d done 10 hrs
,today they asked me too just drop my tri and pick up another ,I refused as rovers were on t.v so just went home.
You’ll find if you work for them that there’s no give and take ,they always want it there way
,like dealing with bloody school kids
Most firms pay the same ball park take home. I never worry myself with the basic, it’s what goes in the bank and what I have to do for it that counts. Personally I don’t like hourly rate pay, I usually do salaried jobs, so you know your minimum when you turn up on Monday morning. I’m not stobarts biggest fan, but they used to have the United glass contract, ten minutes walk from my front door, if they still had it, I’d consider working there. I live in Harlow but work in Tilbury because my jobs is miles better than anything in between or the same distance in the opposite direction
