my heart goes out to the alcester depot…not had much luck since the blakes gave up their control of the depot…express chilled, corby chilled, and now stobart have walked all over them…at least us guys up in scotland got out before the big so call boys tried to make a pigs ear of an industry that isnt feesible in this climate…there is not a company in this country who can operate the chilled consolidated network finacially and meet the crazy time scales required by the big supermarkets…

free forum= freedom of speachWell…that depends on the poster
I hope your not suggesting that TNUK operates a “North Korean” style of censorship ddi,are you? That is ,as long as the poster say’s nothing negative ( according to the ESL Sycophants that is ) then it’s OK,otherwise anything else should be blocked ! Thats not democratic surely ? I sincerely hope it never catches on or that will be me arrested by the “Stasi” and banged up for not towing the “company line”,the “fast eddie” line that is !!! Power to the Proles, long live the revolution !! Bewick.

Spoke to my mate and now crick have been warned that there will be allot of redundancy’s there but only warned. Also coke contract will not be renewed unless stobarts drop price.
When were Crick warned? New one on me and I would have been involved in that! Does that mean I have to look for a new job as well then?
Next you’ll be saying that the red(ish) hi-vis are ready for when Norberts takeover
can’t be doing too badly
Pretty poor results from Tescos today. The staff must be feeling pretty down.
Perhaps they should call in Anthony Worrall Thompson for a pep talk.
He knows how to lift a shop
Bewick:
if that isn’t bad enough it looks like Tesco will now be sharpening their knives and will be slicing lumps out of their suppliers
Have you got any facts to back that up Bewick or is this more outrageous speculation? Whilst we are all aware that Tesco has published less than spectacular results today I somehow doubt you have a direct line into their boardroom with regard to their future strategy
The only reason Tesco lost share value was that some investors decided they wanted a bit more profit so took the slight fall in profits as an excuse to sell shares, you can bet they have now bought them back, the price will go back up & they will have made another small fortune for no effort - it’s the way of the world. In the meantime, Tesco management will use the same excuse to start getting their extra few pounds of flesh from suppliers & workers.

Bewick doesn’t need a direct line to know, its how they work. The reputation of people running the likes of Tesco depends on results, profit is king and poor results don’t look very good on ones CV and they’ll be out to get the money back from somewhere.
Some of the farmers and Dairys are chattering and bracing themselves for a good shafting after the news on Tosco’s profits, as like Bewick they know from past experience what it means for them, downward pressure on selling prices and underhand tactics to achieve the aim.
I’m surprised Tesco haven’t blamed AWT for the fall in profits!!
I can’t wait to see how much money i’m going to lose next week now Tesco have announced poor results, after all sh… has an habit of travelling down the line.
I feel really sorry for the lads and lasses at Alcester,i spent my formative years there when it was Blakes and absolutely loved the job, great people, great craic and i loved my time there, wish i could turn back the clock to the time i was there.
Went back in there when Stobarts bought them out and it was good to see so many familiar faces, just hope they all manage to get sorted out with other work.
Is there any truth in the rumour that the trampers who got finished at Stoke have been asked to reapply for their jobs?
Must admit I thought similar things to bewick when I heard the poor tesco figures. I know Stobarts do other work but tesco must be easily there biggest contract and could they survive if they pulled the plug. So tesco can call the shots in the short term and do what they want.

I don’t want to sound like a spokesman but!! You do realise that Stobart Group is not just a Transport company!!
I personally believe they were and are too big in terms of wagon/drivers and planner/manager numbers!
They no doubt will undercut the rest of the industry in 2012 and beyond!

You ,my friend, have either just landed from the Moon or are employed by Tesco, and if you are, indeed, a Tesco employee you might be forgiven for suggesting that they, along with the other supermarkets, are “Paragons of Virtue” which of course they are certainly not!All the BS about “partnerships” and shifting X No.of loads onto rail for Scotland thereby saving the planet is cobblers. The Supermarkets motto is “is that the cheapest quote, and can it be supplied at an even lower price” I can just envisage the blades been drawn and flashed around Cheshunt this very moment and if you think that Tesco has any charitable thoughts toward it’s suppliers,“fast eddie” included, you must be deluded. The day’s are long past when there was such a thing as customer/supplier loyalty and the last thing I would wish to be at this particular moment is a “logistics” supplier to Tesco.Cheers Bewick.
I know the trucks are just one cog in a machine but say Stobarts have 1500 trucks how much of the fleet is ■■■■■■■ on tesco work per day also all the warehousing and other services every day.
As you say it is overstaffed and to many trucks etc so you take that out plus the tesco work could all the other trucking warehousing and so on that the group does sustain the group without massive restructuring.
I doubt it will go bust but I think the stobart empire could look very different in three or four years time.

I have a few good friends there and they told me that they have been told they could be made redundant and have gone out and started lining up work in-case it does happen.
There is so much going on with stobarts and it seems no one high enough is saying anything hence all this stuff and rumours going about. And maybe someone with some influence in crick has started this and put willys up the drivers.

Bewick, if you take 20 secs to look at my profile / previous posts etc I think that you will find that I am not employed by Tesco. I have no axe to grind with you but whilst I applaud freedom of speech it’s not hard to notice that you are extremely outspoken on various issues, to the point of winding up some posters on here. Keep up the good work

Keeping up the good work Simon,I would be very interested in your “take” on the various Super Markets negotiation approach/handling of their suppliers, surely that will not up-set any of the PC brigade who apparently “take a powder” to my posts,or maybe you don’t have an opinion that can aired "in plain english " on the thread!Cheers Bewick.
With it being a fair battle between two sides, those on the side of Stobart and the rest of the forum, it seems as though Bewick has an opinion which I agree with.
Tesco do not give 2 hoots or a toss about Dentressangle, Stobart, Wincanton, DHL or George Baverstock.
All the supermarkets have done untold damage to their suppliers, that includes the hauliers, but mainly it has affected the growers, farmers, dairies and manufacturers of household goods. They have killed high streets, village life and taken many skills away from the countryside.
Most of the Stobart supporters on these forums are so engrossed in red paint and green plastic film to notice anything else in the transport world.
I despair with many of the Stobart Bull posts, it makes me wonder whether some of the drivers actually believe the hype they see on TV
If this tin of baked beans does not reach Manchester in 15 minutes this forum will cease to exist.
Having worked at Stobbies Alcester depot up until November last year I cant say that i’m at all surprised with the recent news…
Sending vehicles into London with only two pallets of chicken and running empty back cant make the business pay surely??
This happened virtually every day and it wouldn’t just be London, we’d be sent all over the place with a 26 pallet capacity and at the most half of that used…
That said i feel sorry for all the guys and gal’s at Alcester and indeed Corby as it must feel like a proper kick in the teeth!!
I’m just glad i got out when i did!!
ps all the work is apparently moving to a ‘mega’ new chilled/ambient site at Magna park.
The link says only 150 jobs…there is at least 200 at Alcester alone…

That makes tesco and stobart worth each other then. They were so good at slashing rates and putting decent firms out of business in the 90’s they almost went under themselves in the early 2000’s. What goes around comes around and hopefully its their time . The industry has nothing to thank stobart for because they did a great deal of damage, i’ll be glad to see that name disappear. I do have sympathy for the people that work there but there are alway victims. Takes more than ‘Shiny red paint and green plastic film’ to impress me too
A question here might be - Who is eyeing up the Alcester depot?
Langdons must be kicking themselves having just moved out of the old Blakes depot in Redditch - I bet Alcester would have been ideal for them.
Anyone have any idea who might be interested?
