Stick to your Guns

I was asked to move a trailer in a yard i visited,the only problem was ,it wasn,t my company,s so i refused :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

The manager then promptly threw all his toys out of the pram. :unamused: ,and told me to leave the site immediately! :open_mouth:

I knew i was in the right and i wasn,t going to back down :exclamation:

If i had caved in ,and damaged the trailer ,then what would have happened? :unamused:

They’d have promptly shifted the blame to you is what would have happened.

There is another way however that keeps everybody happy; merely phone your office, speak to someone with real authority and pass along the request from the customer, then pass the phone to the customer and let him speak to your gaffer. If he ok’ sit then happy days, if not you have your shiny white ■■■ covered.

I thought he was black! :open_mouth:

Yep, i’d have made the phone call too, almost certainly at a customers premises we would be asked to help them out.

One of our drivers used another companys trailer, wrote it off. Got the push. Left our company with a hefty bill as it wasn’t insured for us to use it.

Lesson #1 - not worth the hassle in being a nice guy anymore.

How do you write a trailer of moving it in the yard though

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and there’s a dozy!

Easily with some of the screwdrivers we currently seem to be employing. One managed to write off 2 trailers and damage a unit, and he hadn’t even got out the gate.
Oh yes he wrecked the gate as well :unamused:

Simple thing to do is ring your boss / line manager …let them call it… then you know what answer to give…

I got asked this the other week. I did the old I would mate but better check with office. Guy promptly try’s telling me one of your drivers did it yesterday. I rang office and they said no.
I ended being at the tip nearly 5 hours. I think the guy was getting his own back.

5hr wait…bet your boss was happy about that… but pay back can be a ■■■■■ when you turn up 5 hrs late next time you go visiting :grimacing:

Phone your boss and ask how much the charge is for subbing you out as a shunter and tell the customer it will cost £X amount for half an hour. They’ll soon back down if it’s going to cost them

A few years back a London firm asked me to move a storage trailer for them,
it looked like it had been parked in that spot for a loooong time.
The air built up ok, I moved it to where they wanted and the boss man gave me £20!

Always ring your boss, because if the customer does and your boss says it’s fine, you can expect some public humiliation served with your humble pie

The problem is the company doesn,t want to employ somebody to shunt, then Office Manager gets the first driver through the gate to do his work for him… :open_mouth:

Most drivers must be moving trailers there :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

More fool them…

I don,t do favors :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

A ■■■■ like that deserves to have the trailer shunted for him and parked sideways blocking four bays.

When a worked at a large motor oil manufacturer, there was a 2 week old curtainsider left on a bay, the shunter was broke down (again) so we asked a haulier on site to move the trailer, checked with his boss first.

Result - overshot the pin, dropped the trailer on the first corner, trailer written off, half the load scrapped and no comeback on the driver or company as we had asked as a favour and been told yes but no responsibility for any damage.

So always check with your boss first before doing any favours
