Staying in a job you dispise

Having spent a fair bit of time on Trucknet I cant help notice that there are some on here that give the impression they don’t like the job. It’s easy to click on various threads and read some of the past comments that people have made, and time and time again it’s usually the same avatars that are constantly complaining.

There are some avatars that have posted thousands of times over many years and not one post is positive.
Whether it’s about the truck they drive, their boss, the work they do, the hours they work, their pay scale, the other guys that are doing the same job and obviously making more money than they are, every comment is is very negative, and the only positive they actually make is the fact that they positionally hate everything.

Which leads me to the question.

If your really hate the haulage industry so much why are you still in it ■■?

Jeff…

I have a t shirt which has written on it the words “I’d Rather Be Complaining”. For me, it’s a joke, but for some folks, it’s a mantra.
In fairness, it’s very easy to get trapped in a job, and even a career. Once you’ve got a mortgage, and bills to pay, and kids to bring up it can be very hard to break out of the cycle of work and retrain.

we have a few where I work. hate the job, its the worse job they ever had etc…

still here though. tend to avoid them as they ■■■■ the life out of you with their woes

Have you tried walking away from a job that you no longer love that pays up to, and over, a grand a week?

My current job’s pretty good, better than what my previous quarry/tipper operator had become. I’d love to work for the guy I tempd for last winter, they’re weighing up whether to create a vacancy. Hated the handball part of my last job and the job and knock (more job) but loved the driving and odd nights away.
Compared to that, this job is brilliant!

■■■■ OFF A GRAND A WEEK !!! who do you work for noddy !!!

… fact of life, there are some who will never be happy, they would moan if they had nothing to moan about

The main reason for drivers being unhappy is the way the knob in the BIG office treats the plebs that work for him/her. Small changes in management attitude pay dividends at the sharp end.

Drivers stay because of the commitments they have, as stated above, but I have walked when I cant stand the daily dose of ■■■■■ that came my way. The company I work for NEVER had drivers leave, but a change of manager (for the worse) and drivers are leaving and others are actively looking. This is because the Fuhrer is out of his depth, all the experience is out on the road not in the office and its plugging up crisis after crisis. The main trouble with most TMs is they WON’T listen to advice, if someone came to me with an idea that was safe and within monetary and time constraints why not try it ?, but how many do, not many.

Rant over, have a nice day.

In my experience it’s widespread, I mean everywhere I’ve worked - in last 20ish years anyway - there’s always been ‘moaners’. Some people are just like that, I tend to start looking elsewhere before I get to that stage. One example that springs to mind…I used to work for a coach company with many long-serving ‘older’ drivers…some of them were always moaning about kids - their behaviour, littering, bad habits, discipline, smoking on the coach (in those days) etc etc. The problem…85-90% of the work was school runs or school-related private hires, so there’s no way they could have avoided carting kids around.

I’ve always tried to look on the Brightside but not everybody’s the same. Thank God!!!

But if you are genuinely unhappy in your job there must be a time to move on■■?

Because there are no jobs in other industries to go to…

When I was employed and very cab happy :open_mouth: ,I had just come back from a two day scotch trip to be greeted with a two day scotch trip the following day :open_mouth: ,don’t know why but I moaned in front of the transport manager about this but made a mistake that I did this in front of two drivers . Any how the two other drivers were ejected from the office and the tm roasted me and asked me what was the problem ? the only thing was there was no problem and I didnt know why I moaned  ,Any how the tm then drawed up a roata for nights away and Scotch trips and whos name was at the top me “jakey” and the trip was to start on Monday four days later . I didn’t moan again . I think some times we moan for the sake of it . :open_mouth:

Let me get this right, just because you do not earn such wages and probably never will with that attitude I am therefore working for noddy? Sorry pal but it is you who is living in toytown for commenting when you have absolutely no idea who I am, where I work, how I work or what I earn. I CAN prove you wrong and will gladly challenge you to a small wager of lets say a grand to prove otherwise. Ball in your court Bigears, dare you take up the wager?

Something my grandad told me when I first left school;

“boy, work is a comprimise between how much you get paid and how much sh*t you can put up with”.

I used to work for a company who paid me very well and we are talking paid very well - not as a driver I must add. I left there a while back and now drive a couple of times per week and I wont lie when I say that the driving job is easy, because it is not. But what I will say is that driving part time has made me realise how ■■■■ the other job was.

If you earn a grand a week you probably are doing 60-70 hours to achieve that.
