As far as i am aware, Statutory sick pay has to be claimed for from the DSS, they will only pay after 4 days sickness, so taking a week off will only net you 1 days pay, as the sick days only run mon-fri. I would find it difficult to claim as you will need a doctor to sign you on/off work ( normally 1 certificate suffices ) and to get an appointment in my area usually takes 3 weeks, in which case to take a week sick, i would have been back to work for 2 weeks before i can see a doctor, then take a day off to make the appointment, and pay for a sick cetificate that i`ve already taken…so my advice is take out privat sick cover, put a few quid to one side to cover emergencies, or dont bother going sick if you can help it.

Our sick scheme is brilliant, and the ■■■■ takers won’t be happy till they’ve destroyed it completely, i shall ■■■■ myself laughing at their bemused faces the day the company take it away.
Spot on!
Workers only have themselves to blame for lack of sick pay.
animal:
so why docent a company like Stobbarts have a private scheme such a BUPA
Because mate, contrary to the crap and b/s they try and put across saying they are the elite and a cut above.
Get this…They are just like every other 2 bit haulage firm
In the words of ‘Public Enemy’ …‘‘Don’t believe the hype’’
dozy:
The chap I’ve dealt with has been great , just said you’re never sick , get yourself right , if I’ve a issue its with there’s never any appointments , I’ve had 2 docs , I registra, 1 nurse practioner,
1 back
2 shoulder
3 bruised elbow
4 tennis elbow
The answer every time is stronger pain killers , more stuff to rub into arm, back , shoulder , why not a scan to see what is wrong
Then you’ve got the company saying can you drive , I don’t know until I try but I’ve tried with car and I’m struggling ,
So I’m going to try , see if I can , but like bloke said if you try and can’t then you’ll have to do another 2 weeks on statuary sick pay, it’s not the best way to encourage a driver to see if he can drive or not is it
Been told by last 2 who said elbow , you must rest it , how do you do that on our job
But the blame lies on me really , I continued to work with pins and needles all down side back , pain killers , rubs , till it was that bad I couldn’t drive any more , warning there see doc sooner
Thank you please.

The company I’ve just joined have an average pay sick scheme, you have 2 weeks on the club for example and they pay you your average pay over the last 8 or 12 weeks (can’t remember which one exactly) absolutely brilliant scheme.
But what I’ve heard people take the ■■■■ so it won’t be round for ever.
We get full pay for 26 weeks and half pay for the next 26 weeks.
Elligibility is worked out using the The Bradford Factor.
