After sitting my HGV2 test in Sept i have finally got a job with Wiseman Dairies
it has very early starts which may take some getting used to but i have to start somewhere.
They take on new drivers without experience and having spoke to some friends / family who work in the driving game they seem to be good to work for.
Looking forward to getting started will be covering holidays and sickness runs.
Any tips or advice about the job would be much appriciated.
Tomorrow is only an induction day and to find out what i will be doing for the rest of the week, will report back on my progress !!
Best thing you can do on ANY induction day, regardless of the industry is to be enthusiastic, pick up as much info as you can on the sector you will be working in and make sure you stand out from the crowd.
Also helpful to do a bit of research on the old interweb and find out as much as you can on the company itself, they sometimes try and break the ice by asking about what you know on the company. Make yourself stand out and you might just find yourself with the best vehicle when you turn up to collect your first load.
Have a good time, enjoy yourself and let us know how it goes!
Them lorries are a big jigsaw puzzle, figure out how to close the cages & strap em to the side’s leaving a tunel down the middle of the lorry for the full ones.
Once you get near the front you can bring the full ones back.
Im sure youll figure out your own way to work em & good luck
Good luck Motoman. Let us know how your week goes, ive put an application into them for my local dairy and like you say they dont seem a bad outfit. Dont forget try to enjoy it aswell
Well the 1st day was short ,was only there for 2 and a half hour to fill in paperwork and get a tour of the depot.
Start tomorrow morning at 4 am which is quite a late start for this company as some start at 1.30am.
Got a driver training course on thursday and start at 8am then back to 4am starts for Fri and Sat.
I will be out with the regular driver for this run who will show me the route, drops and products. Doing this next week as well then get out on my own.
congratulations
when your in the yard and look real close at the truck you are going to drive that day and it suddenly goes really quick from left to right in your line of vision you know then you will be delivering past your eys i know wrong spelling

Well that my 1st day in the new job, Started at 4 am
First job is to Sort out the milk in the back off the lorry into cages and route order didnt remember that bit in the interview !! With the range off products etc this took about 1 and half hours to do in the back off a fridge lorry
Got that done then off to do deliveries, the other guy did the driving to give me a chance to learn the route.
Deliveries were ok just the usual fighting for parking spaces on busy main streets.
You have to man handle the cages the milk is in which is harder than i thought as these things have a mind off there own and get stuck on uneven surfaces
We have to make up some order at the drop as the customer changes the order !!!
We finished the deliveries on time, got back to the depot and as it was wash day had to wash the lorry, then remove returned milk and trolleys, return paperwork and fuel the truck.
Its been a bit off an eye opener and it was just my 1st day but got lots to learn.
Doing some driver training tomorrow and start at 8am, then back to the job on Fri and Sat.
