Pulling into Stafford services and had this pull around me

blog.availablecar.com/police-con … atrol-car/

Capped pay rises @ 1% because they have no money, spend 35k on a patrol car

The equivalent car…

From Germany would be north of 50k. So in one way it’s quite good value for money. Also, it might be fitted with the Eco-Boost engine which is 2.3 litres.

My only grumble with these cars is are they actually fit for purpose. When ever I watch ‘Cops on Telly’ or what ever the programme is called, the sooper dooper high speed patrol car has just pulled over another teenager in a Corsa with no insurance, or some numbnuts drink driver who’s ploughed into a tree. Nearly all of the jobs I see only require the services of a 5 series BMW or similar which they already have.

There was a German registered RS4 on the M1 doing over 100mph which they needed to keep up with and eventually stopped (Fritz looking confused about 70mph limits) but that’s the only time I can remember.

Wannabe lorry driver - Mus-TANG

I remember seeing a Staffordshire Police Jaguar PS (Police Special) come off Keele services chasing somebody in the wee small hours back in the 90’s and boy was it rapid!

I would imagine that the agricultural tractors the Police use aren’t cheap either, though of course they are more specialised and Mustangs are probably not that good on ploughed fields!

Pete.

they will need to go some to improve on the camel jockeys fleet

Or, for the same price as that Mustang they could get what a lot of the Police use over here in US/Can, the Dodge Charger SRT8, 6.4ltr, 485hp, 0-60 in 4.3 & 175mph.
This is mine,

I remember getting pulled by Humbersides finest in their ■■■■■■ Cosworth many years ago. Unfortunately I had to sit in its partner BMW for my (negative) breath test.

Give a car like that to the average pig and I don’t think it will last long.
The current Mustang is an enthusiasts car with by today’s standards, lousy handling, It requires driver input to get round corners.
I don’t think, based on exp that mr plod will be able to hack it.

Wiltshire already have one. Saw it go flying up the M4 just past Swindon closely followed by an X5.

5 series etc are ok for motorway work but won’t get anywhere near a seat Leon , golf etc on the back streets of most towns and city’s

Mustang = straight line. Try staying with a WRX or similar on anything but a dead straight road.

They have a new Focus RS too :open_mouth: Came steaming past me yesterday on my way back from Derby.

I saw a police Mustang going across the A66 about three weeks ago.
Cant imagine a powerful rear wheel drive car being any good up there in winter conditions .
For the same money they could have something like a 4wd imprezza

police forces across the uk are allways moaning they don’t have enough money yet are thinking of buying a car that drinks petrol, what is it, a gallon used as soon as you start it,ridiculous.

I don’t know but wouldn’t a manufacturer like to get a car into the police as free advertising? Let them have one or two cheap? Punters may well think that if the cops use them they must be good.

It won’t be the v8 real M ustang. It will be the useless 2.3 ecoboost I think it is wing offered with over here. A Mustang is only a real Mustang with a V8.

Yeah, used to be plenty of Mustangs over here with a 144Cid engine.

the V8 is sold here in the UK so there is a chance it is the the 5.0l beast!

i’m not sure how you’ve come to the 2.3 ecoboost being useless however, over 300bhp and 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is pretty sharp in anyones book  .

I am aware the v8 is offered over here too, but as I said it will most likely be the ecoboost engines they use over here. It is a useless engine compared to the v8 and the ecoboost engines from Ford are not all that great. Yes it will still shift but a V8 is so much better.
