and just to reiterate. The OP was about split rest and not interrupting a daily rest …

A 3hr rest on boat then 9 after =12rest.
How many times a week can you do this within 6 shifts, and if I do more than 13hrs does it still apply or is it a reduce!!!

Anyone!!

As split IS a regular daily rest then interrupting it on a boat fits in with everything on the thread

But you don’t need to use the Ferry mode in the OP question Rog so no its nothing to do with the OP… its come about because someone couldn’t understand the difference between a SPLIT rest and REDUCED rest

not quite :grimacing: I used to split rest 20 odd years ago :sunglasses: 16 hour spreads 8 hours off and then it changed to 3 hours split with nine off  as of April 2007 on the eleventh day, hello  so before you make stupid comments, remember coffeeholic says I’m an idiot! remember? :unamused:

Just shows your ignorance then since you clearly say the rule changed 7 yrs ago

I know the OP was asking about splitting a regular daily rest in his original post but rather than start another thread heres one a collegue asked me today about interrupting a regular daily rest to board a ferry/train…

Drive to yard, park on bay
Put tacho on rest.
Rest for 2hrs while loaders load the trailer
Put tacho to ferry movement
Drive 30mins to port
Put tacho on rest
Rest for 2hrs
Put tacho to ferry movement
10mins shunting onto boat
Put tacho to rest
8hrs(ish) rest on boat

Is this scenario legal?

TIA

I would say it’s not legal.

You’re using the ferry option to drive to the port rather than to board/disembark a ferry or to show that you’re on a ferry, in my opinion the use of the ferry option in those circumstances would be completely inappropriate.

If you look on page 21 of GV262 I think it’s fairly clear that DVSA consider the interruptions to be for getting on or off a ferry or train.

Whether or not you could get away with it I don’t know, but I suspect that if an enforcement officer looked into the activities closely and realised where and why the interruptions were used, and where the ferry option was used, he may conclude that the driver’s taking the ■■■■ and react accordingly

In the example above I see the only real difference between it and my scenario is that the second 2hr rest period is taken before the main rest period (8ish hrs in my scenario, 7 in the above. Also the second period of driving is about 10mins in my case but 30 in the above.) So actually more rest and less driving…

your scenario used a ferry movement after the 2 hours rest which was not a ferry movement

the ferry movement you used to embark was legally your first ferry movement and you did have a second to disembark
