My girlfriends brother got caught doing 58 in a 30, offered the speed awareness course (This was Essex Police) and was never charged but just sent a DVD through the post, had to sign a bit of paper to say he’d watched it, post that off and that was it!
That takes some believing.
No mention of it here:
drivingcasualtiesdown.org/pa … e-awarenes
Over 50 in a 30 is straight to court, no messing. Might add a dangerous driving charge.
Brother got caught in our younger years 110mph in town in a 50, got the choice of going to court or bending over, went for the latter. 18mth ban, not sure about fine but 12 points stayed on his license, trouble is (after ban) he got spotted on CCTV going over a level crossing on red which resulted in another ban and an extended test!
His driving still leaves a lot to be desired.
I’ve got a speed awareness course next week in Peterboro cost £60 to get on it…Got caught in the car…the satnav in the Truck Bings at me when a camera is about hence no speeding in the Truck…
First time I have been caught since the 80s. …(Please note I said caught
)
Got caught last week by a camera van on my way to Whitchurch on the A41 Chetwynd Aston towards Newport
Was doing 46 in a 40. Ive been offered the speed awareness workshop
. Just wondered if i can do the course up here, if not its worth a trek to get off

Spending a couple of minutes poking around the 'net I easily find:
That area appears to come under West Mercia Police. Their courses are run by the TTC Group who say:
Any driver who is detected driving at the speed identified as suitable in a force area and who has not previously attended a course within a 3 year period, will be offered a course in the area where the offence is committed or in an area where the national scheme has also been adopted.
On their website here:
http://www.ttc-uk.com/speed_awareness.htm
So, from the above it seems they should offer you the option to take it elsewhere. Are you sure that option was not given in the paper work received? You need to check if your local police are a member of the national scheme.
Edit: It would seem that West Yorkshire Police are, in association with Kirklees Council.
Google is your friend
I’m suprised at vocational drivers who are driving for work at the time being offered these courses.
BIGRIG:
I got done oppisite the Belfry a couple of months ago.Igot the option of a Speed Awareness Course and took it.Cost me 88 quid and it wasnt as bad as i thourght,i was doin 45 i think in a 50 zone but it is a single carriageway and i wasnt concentrating at 2 in the morning.I was told that stretch of road has a special camera or sensors on the road for detecting HGVs
i got flashed on the a5 single carriageway speed limit was 50 so i slowed to 50 and …FLASH what a ■■■■■■■ them sneaky ■■■■■■■ no when your in a truck so am expecting my first ever points in almost 20 years of drivin unless theres no film but its a busy route for magna park so one can only hope

Me too.
But, it always makes me laugh when I’m driving along at 40 on a single and 50 on a dual and trucks are flying past me, usually offering me a coffee - guess they don’t understand speed limits, so it’s their own fault.
It’s very easy to make a mistake and get caught out, some of the bloody stupid places of (s)cameras, but some drivers are their own worst enemy and deserve everything they get.
I’m not saying that all the 40’s make sense, and definately all the 50’s, but if everyone obeyed them, maybe the rules would change??
For a real ■■■■ up, check out the A66 up in ■■■■■■■■ there’s a massive stretch of single (national speed) where nobody can get past you, then it opens to a dual and has a 50mph limit with average cameras - I just stick at 40 and let everyone past, but legally you can do the 50 and everyone’s stuck behind you again and back into the single…
Alterego…I’ve Pm you on this, do nothing as yet.
I just had a thought as I got flashed last year, I wonder if some of you are aware that if your company is not notified within 2 weeks they don’t have a leg to stand on and you should be notified within 6 months, I sent them a letter pointing this out and within 3 days had a letter back dropping the fine. these are only collection agencies not the police.
If anyone wants to know more on this I will gladly show you the letter I sent them.

Even if it’s not you, stick to limits, let the planners worry about if you’re gonna be late or not…
Stay legal mate. (except at home time when you go as quick as you can lol)

To clarify, it’s 14 days to the registered keeper of the vehicle which obviously may not be the company you work for.
58 in a thirty got me disqualified for 28 days 1st offence. Had my licence back for a month and got flashed again AAAARGH!!! speed awarenes course.
Caught by van cam near Howden in my car at 36 in a 30, my mate was following in his car at 37mph, he got fine and points, I got offered the course at Hull.
There was a nun (in uniform) on the course and she couldn’t answer a single question!
just been flashed by camera at a141 warboys has truck sensor on it was doing 47 lost on downward slope had cruise control on 3am in morning. I drive at 43 on a roads and 54 on dual so much for it being fair.
Did me speedawareness course last fri 28th jan, got flashed on sep 17th last year took a while to get course dates.course cost 60 and lasted 4 hours 21 of us on it, so they making some money, course quite interesting to be honest mostly sales reps on it
Im not saying this is what you should do but i know a number of folk who have just ignored fines and its never been followed up.
The same goes for parking tickets.
