I sit at 50 on the A14, as that’s the speed limit. It’s all well and good slowing down for the cameras, but if you get pulled over and they look at your tacho and you’ve been doing 56 for the last 2hours you can’t really argue can you?
The only speed limits I sometimes ignore are the M42 variables, not the 40s and 50s you often get when it’s busy, but sometimes at midnight and past it’ll be empty yet the signs come up flashing 40,30,20 etc, and i’ll be buggered if i’m gonna slow down to 20mph on an empty motorway, besides a lot of the signs change speeds only yards before you drive under the gantry.
I don’t think there’s a problem with sticking to 50 on dual carriageways, as if other trucks want to overtake they can, there’s 2 lanes. I often don’t like sitting at the 40 limit on single carriageways though, and although I don’t break the limit the pressure other trucks put you under and cars is not nice. Was nearly run off the A41 today by some total ■■■■■■■ in an Irish truck. I was doing 40 and he was right up my arse peering down the side waiting for his chance to overtake, soon as his cab was past me he swerved across back into my lane, possibly forgetting he had a 40ft trailer attached forcing me to brake hard and dive for the gutter/verge, very nearly lost the front side of my cab, should also point out as he overtook I was already braking slightly anyway to let him get past quicker as was a bend coming up
