Not a happy bunny today after just receiving my driving licence back from the Birmingham payment office. I have had a clean driving licence since 1978 after I promised speeding wasn’t worth it to the procurator fiscal in Dumfries.
I got a happy snap taken in Leigh Sinton near Hereford.
As a bit of light relief I have read that this particular camera has been necklaced a few times

They are ■■■■ all to do with safety, lots of councils turned them off to save money a couple of years ago, but the boys in blue turned them back on to help their coffers and took charge of them and keep the revenue…90% need chopping down. A bit like the plain vans (and a ■■■■■■■ horsebox in North Wales) with mobile cameras mounted in the back , Bloody scandalous things, we received a notice about one , in an undated envelope 38 days after the event, after a lot of expensive arguments it looks like they are forgetting it as you have to be sent it within the correct timeframe…they wont tell us who is driving and we do not know , could of been either of us.
So perhaps we have won this time.

I tried that and to be honest we are not sure who was driving either, we had been racing in Wales and my mate was working as an official, he pulled in to a lane end and said “I am knackered. Will you drive?” I jumped in and drove home.
The paperwork came to the registered keeper and we requested a photo, we cannot see who was driving because of the photo. The problem is that if you do not tell them a name the owner gets the fine, she doesn’t drive or hold a licence but has already got 6 points from a previous attempt at ignoring a speeding fine. It also cost her £120. They doubled it up for not giving the information.
I did write a strong supporting letter, but it was ignored. Next time I shall get Chris Huhne to represent me

Had similar thing to this in my private car when in the uk ended up going to court as photo was impossible to see if was me or the wife driving. The court couldn’t tell who was driving so it got thrown out.

I think you have to offer the names of either driver it could have been. As they cannot convict both people it’s likely to be thrown out if the drivers involved are not identifiable.

The necklace refers to a burning tyre placed on the neck of the camera to burn the evidence.Melt the photo?
how does that work with a digital camera then they are all digital you know
it sends the pic to DVLA as soon as it takes it.
have you ever seen anyone from prontoprint going around replacing films in speed cameras

It’s called ‘The Hamilton Defence’.
To use this defence today is incredibly risky.
I did try it, but they then go after the registered keeper. I wanted to go to court with it but I was advised not to do so as it would have cost someone more than £60 in all probabilities. The only thing what was certain was that the car I was in triggered a 30mph speed camera on the road to Worcester.
Movin on, just like Nolans
I wouldn’t want it to come back in 10 years and bite me on the bum like it did Chris Huhne when he spurned his ugly (wo)man
