Speed Limiter Question

I was driving northbound on the A3 and passed a Scania Artic just before Hindhead tunnel, once passed the tunnel the road goes down hill, I’m doing about 60/65 as in no particular hurry. Then all of a sudden the scania comes flying past doing close to 70. So I’m interested to know.

  1. Should the limiter stop him from reaching that speed?

  2. Would it show on his Tacho that he reached that speed and could he be prosecuted for it?

  1. Not if it’s downhill, the limiter doesn’t apply the brakes.

  2. Yes and yes.

No

2) Would it show on his Tacho that he reached that speed and could he be prosecuted for it?

Yes. No, not for speeding as in a fine and points you get from a camera or speed trap but he could face other sanctions.

Yes, just to clarify that he couldn’t be prosecuted on the basis of his tacho showing excess speed but he could be nicked for doing that speed if spotted by the rozzers.

And if it was a regular occurrence he might have to let the TC look after his licence for a few weeks if it came to their attention.

Yes, I’ve read of firms having their O licences suspended on the basis of tacho cards showing speeds of 56mph after leaving the yard, despite there being no motorways in that area.

Would they really look after your licence for a few months for coasting downhill a few times■■? That seems a bit harsh :open_mouth:

What if there tacho exempt obviously if caught they will get done

Some vehicles (Volvos) apply the exhaust brake when you hit 60, wether the exhaust brake is switched on or not.
Of course, dipping the clutch would bypass this.

Ive tried to argue this to get our hell driver bonus scheme scrapped…

Ha ha, just read this again.
So you’re doing 60-65 and he’s doing 70, but he’s going too fast eh?

  1. The limiter only cuts the injectors back, it won’t stop gravity pulling 44tons down a hill.
  2. Yes, it will record on his tacho, same as it will show 60-65 on yours, and yes it can be used as evidence against you.

I may be wrong, but doesn’t Glen drive a sprinter van? Though to be completely pedantic, as its an A road dual-carriage way he is technically limited to 60mph, not that many van drivers stick to that, or even know about it.
I let my truck go this week on a hill in Nova Scotia and managed 93mph…and no, my paper log book wont show it!

1.) Speed Limiter limits only Powered Speed
2.) the Law shall have stopped him going that Fast (60mph limit for Class 1)

Lovlyperson:
(60mph limit for Class 1)

50mph on the A3.

Was it a blue scania by any chance? Might of been one of my colleagues out of guildford?

With an i-shift Volvo set the overrun for the CC to the maximum 15 km and it won’t kick in at 60.

when my neddle gets to 0 it makes all the other trucks look like they are stood still!!! does this mean i am bending time or just moved to a different dimension :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Or just turn it completely off and down the hill at 70/80mph+ depending on load/hill… But 40t+ down Stainmore can easily achieve this.
