Speed awareness courses

lolipop:
same County as where you were clocked

Incorrect, you have a choice of venues across the country so wherever you like …

Say nothing to the insurance company .That is more b.s .You have not been convicted and have been allowed an awareness course because they think you were not way over and they justify this rip off with a course .It’s a ripoff boring few hours pal.

mine was £85 in Cov .

I went online and chose the location and date i wanted (had to be in a certain time frame) and you pay there and then for it…

Cost me £95. Or i could of had 3 points and £100 fine…

It was in the news recently about insurance companies asking if you’ve been on one. Apparently some do and some don’t. I’m with admiral who apparently do,so at renewal time I’ll be changing out of principal. I’ve never been on one but if I have to tell the insurance company I might as well take the same cost and the three points, instead of sitting in a room having the pants bored off me. I have enough of that with the CPC :unamused:

Is it not the driver who’s insured to drive and not the car ■■

It’s usually the case now when driving someone else’s car that you should have a comp policy and so should they so work that out. Didn’t used to be but we all know that car insurance has become little more than legalised theft.

Insurance firms act like they are the law .They are not .And of course they can ask that question but you are entitled in law to say no convictions as an awareness course is not a conviction no mater how they ask the question. And you are told during the course that it is up to you if you inform these parasites of the course or not .
These insurance firms need stronger regulation
As to what is none of there business .All they want to do is rip us off more in any case .

Know idea they re quoted me after declaring (or them telling me they had seen me declair them elsewhere) and the price was the same . One good thing admiral do do which brought my premium down is if you get house contents with them so for around £30 it reduced my policy by just over £100

Crossroads:
Not done a speed awareness course, but did the equivalent safety course for getting nabbed by a traffic light camera in Nottingham.
At the time, (18 months ago), this cost £80 vs £90 for the speed awareness version. Was able to book it at a local hotel, choice of dates.

Would that traffic light camera be on the A60 by any chance crossroads■■?

I was clocked doing 83 in my car near Penrith, trying to get away from some muppet on the phone and a sheaf of paperwork in the other hand… ■■■■■■ me off no end but at the end of the day I was speeding at the time. Done the paperwork and ca do the course locally rather than having to go cack up to ■■■■■■■■ Ive got mine on the 8th in Walsall. Deep joy!!! but better than getting the points.

I had the impression the SAC’s were 3mph over plus 10% ie 80 (DC or motorway)

No it is more than that, unless it is different from area to area, although I don’t think so.

When I did one last year  it was “above 10% plus 2mph of the limit, but below 10% plus 9mph. In a 30mph zone, this means anything between 35mph and 42mph, while in a 70mph zone it means anything between 79mph and 86mph”

I

Did one for getting caught doing 69 in a 60, FFS to avoid an innuendo fest let’s say 46 in a 40 about 8 years ago.
Was very lucky to be offered a course apparently but as stated by others I could choose a place near me.

Was an all day thing but to be fair enjoyed it and the course helped tame my driving style a bit.

The wife took the ■■■■ until 6 months later she got one for doing 69 as well, oh the irony.

It varies from insurer to insurer .
Some cover you for driving other cars so long as they don’t belong to you .
Some cover you providing the car has insurance in place .
Some get complicated about cars in the same houshold or family .
Ask your insurance company and check your documents.
Some don’t even cover you to drive to work .
