Spat my dummy out

Why is it that companies seem to think that because you’re salaried minimum wage doesn’t apply?

The other half’s having the same problem - they just say ‘so do less hours’, and then turn around and pile even more work on :imp:

Edit to add:
National Minimum Wage guide from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) That’s a PDF file, chapter 12 covers salaried workers (page 62ish I think, off the top of my head)

National Minimum Wage helpline

Ayup, check the uk Domestic Drivers hours regs.Sprinter should come under that. You may be surprised about how many hours you can work.Parcel Co. got done a few years back if I remember correctly, for drivers working too many hours. This is something that seems to not be checked much.Or maybe Ive dreamt this. chreers Joe.

Oh yes - 5.5 hours driving, minimum break of 30 minutes then another 5.5 hours driving :smiling_imp:

Dont get your point orys? The guy,s been shafted whats that got to do with a few people being jealous of you earning a good wage ?

Macka Packa:
States in contract ,
“48hr working week, but may be required to work
additional hours to end the days run,
as due to the nature of the buisness”

If you’re doing your 48 hours (plus) by thursday tell him you want more money to come in on Friday as you have already honoured your contracted hours.

That I was thinking that (apart of that one job) i was rather on the lower part of salaries (but not becouse I am Polish, just becouse I had not much experience), and I was never earned as low as the poor Macka Packa earns :frowning:

So I am wondering now how many people just telling the fairy tales about their wages if reality is like that…

But you right, it’s rather off topic here.

Macka Packa:
I have a baby,mortgage wife etc…
but surely 60hrs for £241 per week (after tax) is near on slavery.

Any views.

It’s illegal. £241 takehome is around £280 top line which is under £5/hr.

I think if it were me, I’d be telling him that he owes you another £80 plus the money for all the other weeks the wages didn’t meet the national minimum wage and that if it isn’t forthcoming, the low pay unit of HMRC might just get a bell.

hi macka packa this could be a bit hasty but you could always take your wage slips and your contract to a soliciter and ask him to look over it you should get the legal aid as you wages are low, Like i said that might be a hasty thing to do but if you get that job it might be worth it.

you should be on at least minumum wage
try doing your contracted hours give or take the odd hour or two
keep note of hours worked and avoid POA

You’re getting shafted.
Sell the goods.
Sell the van.
And [zb] his wife.

but what if the wife’s a hemale    i’d do my hrs & phone in & tell him you need another driver out as you’ve done the best you can, take 30mins a drop, the more you do the more you’ll get to do, i was taken off the artics & put on multi drop 50 drops white van man 30 uplifts i done 50 /15 he soon got the message.

Another example of an employer who thinks he is running a Mumbai sweat shop. I hope you get the other job. Once you have hopefully got it, and you have your P45, complain to the right people, produce your pay slips in evidence and get the ■■■■■■ screwed.

Being in that position at work is soul destroying as it gradually eats away at your self respect, even more so than being on the rock’n’roll. Nobody likes to feel they are working their nuts off for peanuts and platitudes.

As has already been said on here, all too often, the more you do for a company the more they expect you to do, and often for nothing too.

Personally, I will not work for anybody for free but I am lucky in that my wife works, so I can show the finger with less concern. I well recall having a ding-dong with the agency when I was first working on the ‘dust’, as they pay a fixed rate, but I had worked over those hours and got nothing. However, as it is job and finish, usually I knocked off early, so it all evened up in the end.

I suppose the bottom line is, never do unpaid overtime for anybody, unless there really is a compelling reason for doing so.

■■?

I’m salaried for 40 hours per week but I’m doing 48ish per week on 17k per year, The situation is not ideal but as transport is under review and voluntary redundancies are being asked for I aint complaining too much for now.

(but i would rather drive a 44t than 3.5t for min wage (less ■■■■■■■ and dumping!) Quote.

Cab Happy, no wonder we can’t get decent wages!!!

And try not to get so stressed

Have you applied for working tax credit seeing as you have a family? My wife works part time and me full time ( I take home double what you get) and we get £640 per month tax credit.

I know it doesnt help with your poorly paid job but sweetens the blow a bit

i keep asking why its so low

the Mrs £6,500

Things,ll work out eventually ,

Just not use to scrapping buy,
luckily the only loan we have is our mortgage.
No credit cards etc…

Thank God I havent driven a truck in years!! My heart really goes out to you lot…driving for a living is a thankless task and the economic downturn must be tough on you and your families.

Its also a great shame that many TMs and TCs have never sat behind the wheel and actually done the job…many now have a degree in Logistics which is a world away from a real working environment.

A lot of hauliers are suffering at the moment but a lot are getting extra work as other companies go under and use the excuse of recession to pay peanuts.

I just wonder why a lot of drivers continue to be oppressed and extorted for a minimum wage. Go and get a job that pays the same for less responsibilities and spend time with your families rather than staying out for a week forced to pay extortionate rates for rat and criminal infested MSs.

As an ex TM I was allowed by the management to actually look after our drivers…bonuses, christmas parties training, awareness of family commitments…but human kindness seems to have completely disappeared from all aspects of life.

When I was in the job many smaller hauliers were bought up and its been going on for years and wont stop. There will remain a few specialist STGO type hauliers and the other two companies will be Stobbarts and Wincanton staffed entirely by foreign drivers and run by total halfwits straight out of Uni.

Apathy has always been rife in UK haulage and it stems from the lonely life of a driver and the need by certain companies to keep people divided so they cant stop for a minute and say ‘Hang on this isnt fair’.

Im not a communist socialist Trotskyite but whatever happened to a fair days pay for a fair days work■■?

Macka as much as it might seem painful to say you might be better of if your wife stops working. The amount of WFTC you recieve seems very very low!

I apologise if this post seems slightly long…its a response to most of the posts Ive read on here over the past few months. Good luck to you all.

have to agree with the others hes taking the p*** mate i take home more than that me self for a 39 hour week

£6.23 a hour for working at supermarket pushing trolleys i have told my lot i want extra money or time bak when i go over me hours and i stand me ground to good luck with it
