Hello, he`s off again!!!

Come on Mr Fuse, everyone loves firefighters (including Mr Stobart, allegedly, as you have reminded us before!!)

Women throw their knickers at them, girlies flash there ■■■■■!!! :open_mouth: …its a great job, maybe you should try joining, then you too could drive a truck AND be a firefighter

I think you should be called Mr Short Fuse.
Anyway I have another job through the week and drive every second weekend which is perfectly legal. Why do I do it? money of course.
I do not feel that I am taking away someone elses job, most companies need to run 6 or 7 days a week to make them financially viable, and drivers can only do 6 days every 2 weeks so the work force has to come from somewhere. When I am on boxes the delivery note usually has someone elses name and a different delivery time scrubbed out on it, so again it is a job that a regular driver has missed for what ever reason.

are not the drive hours regs and the silly wtd there to stop idiots working to long. they should not make money the excuse for doing it. and get a life before they kill someone

Thank you for your further rant Mr Fuse. Was it directed at me?

In my regular job I am salaried for 37 hours per week with no chance of paid overtime. So every other saturday I drive, usually a 10 to 12 hour shift. So that would put me up to 49 hours which is a normal week or less for drivers is it not?

As for my competancies I passed my HGV3 in '82, HGV2 in '85 and HGV1 in '88. I am a CPC national holder and have a BTEC in Road Freight Logistics.
The company which I pull boxes for carries out assessments on all drivers before they are allowed behind the wheel, so their grumpy old assesor reckons I am okay.

Have you carried out any education beyond your licence aquisition?
I will end there before this turns into a personal attack.

Fuse has a point, even if you only drive a truck for a few hours you still some under Tacho regs, so you should only work part time as a truck driver if you’ve got enough hours after your regular job to include the required breaks.

But like part timer I used to do a job that was 37 hours a week and could easily fit a bit of truck driving in and more than legal breaks.

some people do not have the option of just working a minimum amount of hours.
In this current financial market a few extra hours in the run up to Xmas is not going to do any harm as long as you are sensible about it and dont go silly.

I would rather do a bit more and provide my kids with a decent life than tell them…

" Sorry son you cant have a new bike I’m not allowed to work overtime"

Join the real world Fuse .If you can manage on basic hours then good luck to you and i wish you well, at least you are leaving the overtime to us that need it!

Do what you want.
If it’s illegal.
Don’t get caught.

Rules are for fools.

thats a fair point its only cheating if you get caught

I thought if you didnt get caught whatever you do is completely legal,

So therefore if you dont intend to get caught you are probably Ok to do what ever you want

toowise too right mate

Well if your in agreement with breaking the regs you deserve to get shafted

Nick2008…

ever heard of irony

just coz we write things on here does not necesarily mean we actually do these things, we all try to keep within the law even if that law is an ■■■ (to quote an age old saying)

just because we may bend the rules slightly to get a better life for our families does not mean you have the right to insult us all

OK rant over

When I had my own motors I used to use a couple of Firemen & a few Squaddies as & when I had extra work, mostly during the night, they always did the job well enough & they were happy to put a few quid in their pockets, so everyone was a winner.

I can’t understand the problem that Fuse has with it, just WTF has it got to do with you what other people are doing, you should worry about you’re own business & keep your miserable interfering trunk out of other peoples.

I don’t work overtime so this doesn’t really affect me … but
A lot of the full time drivers I work with are getting increasingley "P"d off because of this occurence.
The bosses are finding it cheaper to use partimers/ agencies for weekend runs and thus are not giving overtime to regular drivers.
So by this I guess that there is a conflict.
Also a few years ago , I had to represent a union member who was paid off because his job (which was going through a hard time) was getting done by the bosses nephew who happened to be a fireman doing it in his off duty periods.
When I contacted the firemans union they were very sympathetic and stated that they were fully against this parctice.(this was in the time when firemen were going through a lot of disputes re their wages and were looking for support from other unions).
I would hazard a guess that any part time driver is, somewhere along the line, taking money from a regular driver in some way, even if it is by stopping the boss from actually employing an extra driver.
In conclusion, no-one should have to do this kind of thing to make a decent wage… but this IS the real world and we all do what we need to do so I am not having a “go” at anyone.

the law says i must have weekend breakes ect ect the idea being that i dont get tired and kill someone . prey tell me whats the difference between me driveing seven days off the belt and a part timer doing his job five days and driveing a truck the other two days then back to his own job

i have a full time job and work most weekends. the difference between your example is that i have a cool boss that is so laid back he is horizontal, if i have a weekend of driving coming up he will give me 2 days off during the week, if i have no driving another week i have to work late, to make up the hours. if we have a few weeks of weekend work he lets me have the days off but i buy him a few pints when we go for a drink!

what is your problem with this? i do this with a company that are very understanding of my full time job (some ex military in the office helps), sometimes i tell them i can work then something will come up on the friday and i cant do it, if i didnt do it they would get agency guys in (nothing against them either) but as i do it they save money on agency fee’s, i get some spare cash, and the experience on the wagons plus the offer of a full time job when i leave my now fulltime job!

it works well for me and the company i work weekends for and has ■■■■ all to do with you so sit back, light up and help me count my wedge!!!

Who cares, as long as the person working the overtime is competent & in control what does it matter? We all used to work longer days before WTD & continental shifts came in & we were fine so if somebody wants to go out playing Trucker on their days off who is getting hurt?

do you have a particular incident you’re talking about Fuse or are you just having a Victor Meldrew moment?

that is the point i can do the job but the law wont let me. you are makeing the case for me a brickie a firman train driver they can all work all week doing their jobs then do mine greed greed, i am lucky i do not need the work or want it but i do know youg lads who do need it
