hi ian,
that registration malufunction that you mentioned, used to be quite common in fleets were there were a number of identical vehicles  .i haven’t seen billy burton for quite some time now, though i see nigel on the road now and again.

Can we not agree that Walters provide the site with some good photo’s, but in my opinion not really in-keeping with the spirit of this particular topic. Would it not be better to start a Walters topic and then those who want to see (and get held up behind) such modern feats of earthmoving equipment could view at thier own delight. Just a suggestion to keep the topic on track.

Nothing wrong with seeing Walters big Scania on here.Several of us that have posted pics on this site and others have enjoyed seeing the loads that Graham carry’s on the different trailers he pulls. After all Walters hail from Hirwaun which is in South Wales. Also the title of the thread says “South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards”.Let’s have some of your pics Steve.
Cheers Dave.

If it helps keep this thread alive and near the top of the first page I personally don’t mind some photos of newer South Wales trucks going on. I enjoyed the contrast of seeing a Wynns Diamond T and the Walters Scania on the same page.
Neil.

s gates 87:
history of Telfords, the current owner (Bob Penrose) was a salesman their from the early 70’s i believe & W.T Davies bought it as he had gone for a Leyland franchise but couldn’t do it as their were issues about running a transport firm alongside the dealership apparently, & then Telford Motors came up for sale & he bought that, re-named Telford Trucks.
Then W. T. Davies hit financial difficulty’s mid 90’s the workshop where land Rover is now was closed & W.T’s fleet was serviced at Telfords with some of the fitters being moved up too & Bob Penrose was the dealership manager, he then ended up buying it to keep the franchise around 1997 could of been earlier though.
Please edit if their is any incorrect info lads
Regards Simon.

For any that might not already know, Cardiffs Scania dealer now has a new owner having been bought out by ‘the worlds largest independant Scania dealer’ Keltruck earlier this year.
Neil.

hi all,
morris bros. of swansea were a big part of the south wales haulage industry for many years.they have been seen on this thread before, thanks to daibootsy.these are couple of snaps i took in 1983 at morris bros.swansea yard, which was?as i remember next door to the well known removals firm griff fender.

I agree with Dave, and Neil the Walters photos are an important part of this thread. Graham and Andrew give their time to supply us with tremendous shots of a working truck in South Wales. As I have said before this thread is more than photo’s, its about the people involved as well.

Andrew, Morris Bros were into everything, plant hire, low loaders, tippers, buses and van hire. I remember their early Dafs with the air filter on the nearside front as in the photo. Keep up the great work, regards Paul.

hi steve,
internet forum’s are all about expressing views and opinions.thank you for expressing yours.however, just so that we all know where we stand.this is how it will be.unless graham hillman or any other company representative from the walter’s group tell me different.the walters photo’s will continue to be posted on this thread by me.you are not the only one who uses this thread by far!there are many others who have posted and shared far more than the five posts that you have.it’s strange that all the members who ■■■■■ and moan the most, post the least.
regards andrew

I stand reprimanded by fellow forum members and look forward to future photo’s of all South Wales Hauliers past and present.

jolly good show chaps

hello all.
Can we now put all this behind us for the sake of this wonderful and interesting site, every body is entitled to his or hers opinion and i would be the very first to acknowledge that,As i see it if i come across a topic that i dont agree with or dont like my solution is simple just dont look at it. And to Steve if i have ever held you or anyone else up whilst moving an Ab load then please accept my apologies there is usually no options open to us to allow traffic to pass the load, Believe me i or any other heavy hauler do not set out to delay or disrupt traffic flows but unfortunatley these loads have to be moved at some time.Sorry to depart from the matter we get so called proffesional drivers giving abuse such as why dont you ********* move at night which i suppose to the ill informed sounds like a damned splendid idea but usually most moves are planned weeks in advance with a tier of different authorities so it is not as easy as most people think but i have done this work for a while now an hopefully continue to do so for a little longer so nothing anyone says or does will phase me because if its not me holding you up it will definatley be someone else, let me just get down off this soap box my tablets are due.
many thanks to all that contribute to this thread.
graham.

Walters big Scania 620 coming into Strinds/Dolyhir Quarries near my home last year.

Onboard is a Locotrack mobile crushing machine.

The Scania plus dolly and trailer with load is a pretty impressive sight.

hi all,
here are a few i took of john raymond’s fleet in 1985.

by this time, the atki’s days were numbered in j.r’s fleet, the volvo’s were coming  .

How many men does it take to run that mobile crusher? and whats its main power source? Dennis.

one man can operate most of these crushers, its all hydraulic drive from a donkey engine.
