South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

morning all.
ronnie evans are still very much with us.i saw one of his very smart and distinctive fridges on sunday morning in cwmavon.i am told that he drove for john evans transport many years ago, they were a big player in their day.

hi andrew, i went to australia in 2000 and seen john evans lorry over there he used to run loads over , i thought i was seeing things at first but they were there

We had 4 alloy dropside grain tipping trailers with lister donkey engines ex. John Evans. they were a nightmare to tip as the controls were on the side and you had to stand next to it as it tipped.

hiya,
Hello Trev are those trailers still allowed under H&S rulings, Iv’e used them a while back and I was always ready to run when pushing them up loaded surely they can’t still be allowed to use them now.
thanks harry long retired.

No, I think they would frown on that these days, we used them on a scrap job for 5 yrs then weighed them in. Them twin rams were sods for twisting the body if the load stuck and you were stood underneath it. I think John Evans had them for hauling grain one way, then the sides folded double and inward to form a flat trailer for carrying pallets the opposite way.

Pete 359,

Just to correct the record Ronnie S Evans has never worked for anyone else in his life.

he was rather fortunate that his father had a business prior to him and he started with his own lorries from a very early age in the mid 60’s.

he had 4 Dodge k series tippers with V8’s in, 2 4 wheelers and 2 6 wheelers H,J,&K reg’s 1970- 72, 99% that they were 4 leggers NTH708/9J & PTH664/5K ON 6 wheelers.his colours have remained the same .

i was driving the dodges unofficially with a relative when i was around 15 yrs of age  .

I was speaking with Ronnie only last week in person, and he told me he know runs 15 arctics most of them on european routes.

E.W.
