LYNXMAN:

One for Chepstow Chap. an early 60s A.E.C. Mercury t/unit with a very distinctive cab( look at the unusual windscreen)
madeby Oldland Motor Bodies of Bristol , one of these cabs is under going restoration at present

Hello LYNXMAN, that is excellent thanks a lot .I have to say i can not remember that AEC , but J D Phelps ran some KV cabbed ERFs 804/ 805/6 FAX, that operated out of Whiteheads in Newport as well as Bowaters at Sudbrook .
I think they sold out to Richard Read and had a similar livery , light/dark blue etc . PS hope you are feeling better .

hi adrian
how you keeping hurry up and put them pics on i remember when i started shunting for joints my first wagon was ony372l a erf ,andrew would most probaly remember it
or you would

hiya john, yes i remember 372L.180 gardener i think.the first unit i was given at joints was a mandator G reg.then i had another J reg this time x cadbury/fry wagon.lovely motor she was.we also had an old G reg erf BRB something G.when i shot a load of steel on my way to vauxhall luton alan jones took me off my 290 marathon and put me on that for a few weeks.we had to go through slough in them days.billy the cap had it for a while too.i didnt throw the load off it went forward and he had to send a few boys up to restack it all etc.i tipped it next day no problem.that was my punishment to have that old erf for weeks.still he didnt suspend me like most firms did.anyone remember electric eye ?old doug.tony rees used to call himself that on the cb.he left to join the police.i used to see him on his police bike but he,s probably retired now.ron rees"s son.and john the dog huberts father in law.i,m going back to when dupont steel had a place on britton ferry roundabout and in llanelli.hubert used to shunt there.we used to take steel billets out of them.god i sound as if i,m 90 not 62 dont i.i remember when blue line had a shunter loading in morgan e rees pontardulais and his name was rubin i think.bloody hell now i,m going back.remember pretty boy?mike something he married elvin davids daughter and later bought a wagon or 2 himself, then there was davy john david who was elvins brother but was transport manager for holloway bros port talbot.i could go on but i,m sure i,d bore you.all the best ade.

theres another name from the past now.Stan Morris.he was foreman in the abbey for joint for years.he was shunter at first untill they got a bit bigger then he was foreman.he was a grafter too like wil the cap but i never saw him on the road.ive got a lot of memories of the joneses as my old man worked for their grandad eddie jones.dil.deryl,john and arthur were the boys then.i knew alan clayton, bobby and linda when we were kids.i remember Bev the sprayer who was up kenfig hill.arthur used to drive the hurse.they had buses too in them days.i remember my old man taking me and mum on a trip in the coach to tenby but we all had to get out and walk up morriston bank as the engine wasnt strong enough to get up with a full load on.also don aplles[evans] who owned a firm called pioneer motors who had a garage near the mules.me and jo townsend were caught playing in the buses one night there.poor old jo was killed in a motorbike accident in the m4 by swindon.he worked with me in joint too for a while.also he worked with an irish firm for a while and when they owed him money he hid the wagon from them untill they paid up.what about nelsons?blue line bought them out.i,m not sure but i think thats where the name blue line came from.they were D.David & sons untill then i think.i got a very small photo of joints yard at kenfig hill with a bus in it.i dont know if i can get the photos on here thats the trouble.i,m not brilliant on the pc.ade.

hi adrian, stan & hubert was in the caps funeral , i remember going to duport briton ferry with uncle norm i had to wait in the security box ,what wagon was his i also remember a driver he drove the scammell i think his name was mike i followed norman into haulage if not i could be a millionaire     , pretty boys missus susan drives a renault magnum out of cardiff bar not seen him on the road for a while, the boys from long ago, doctor tom, taff, wally, wilf, they were characters
