I used to fill up at Entress (was it Llansamlet) in the 70s and they still had one of those Leyland Octopusssies in running order for storing and transhipping in the yard.

hi chris,
happy new year.yes entress’ yard was on the side of the main road,on the long drag out of llansamlet.i went passed there a couple of days ago,it is overgrown and empty.though never been developed, surprising really given that it’s probably? 30 years since entress left.
regards andrew

hi lads,
happy new year dave and dennis .i am told that bill entress was a well respected member of the t.a.(transport association).i am sure you know the group i mean, the logo is a yellow circle with TA within it.i know that owens from llanelli are members to this day.entress may have been in the tdg also?i was only a kid at the time and wouldn’t know for sure.knowles of wimblington are ta members and tony knowles has told me that he and many other ta members in the 60’s and 70’s held a very high opinion of bill entress and all that his company had achieved during their time as members.

Another trip to Jeff Ways has turned up somemore gems!
A ray of hope to save the Mickey Mouse Foden. Spoke to Jeff yesterday and he tells me has had two enquiries to buy her as a complete lump. Both are up country so there might be a delay because of the weather etc. But fingers crossed she will be one of only a small amount of vehicles to ever be ‘sprung’ from this garden of doom.
where about is jeff ways yard please regards martyn
Hi Sammy Dog. Take A470 North off junc 32 M4, take 3rd exit off, take old road through Rhydyfelin(behind Upper Boat Pub) go about 1.5 miles, just before road bears to right to go under the A470, take a left off that bend and go over a narrow steel bridge over the river. Park at the end and go through where there is an old trailer blocking the way. Good hunting!
Another ENTRESS GEM well worn Atkinson fitted with 40x8 tyres to improve the very sedate progress
it was powered by the Gardner 6lw with all of 120 bhp, a mean machine

http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac267/pete359_bucket/rme8.jpg[/img]]Andrew, I know things in Porthcawl can traditionally get a bit out of hand on a bank holiday weekend but calling the tanks in seems rather drastic
.
Seriously though where did they park that lot up?
hi neil,
to answer you’r question mate, they parked on salt lake car park near porthcawl fairground.

Hi LYNXMAN , superstuff have you by any chance photos of Entress AEC Mandators and Mercurys . Good to keep the old stuff going regards kk
hi all,
back in sept. 2004 my mate neil james bought the remains of a fairly rare ergomatic turbo leyland beaver.this motor had one owner from new, morgan’s of cwm.she used to run steel to the midlands, during the late 80’s and early 90’s i used to see it shunting for morgan’s in ebbw vale steelworks.sadly the years hadn’t been kind.what a cracking motor
.
neil (seen on the right),used his concourse v8 mandator to take his then new restoration project back to the midlands.

Hi Pete 359,
Going back a few years to the early 60s – before the M4. The Mighty Anter tank transporters travelled on the A40 up and down to Casle Martin. One of the regular overnight stops was in my home town – Llandovery. It was great to see them parked up in the Castle Car Park.-- I was a teenager driving my Thames Trader in those days.
sorry no phots yet – I will put them in here if I find any. — regards Hywel.
hi hywel,
happy new year.yes an awesome sight.the early antars were petrols
by the time they came into porthcawl they were using scammell’s and the odd strato, carrying a spare unit.both empty and loaded many times.
here are a few from protheroe transport, this half photo is of their yard in porthcawl during the 1960’s,sorry about the crap quality.
regards andrew
this borderer was owned by a subsidury company of protheroe’s, northways transport.
around 1971/72 protheroe moved to port talbot,by this time the fleet was atki’s and a couple of f86’s seen many pages back on our thread.
pete 359:
Hi Andrew,
There is a chap named Protheroe running out of Tarmac from down your way,he has been working up here quite a bit,got a Volvo FH eight legger.Happy new year.
Cheers Dave.
hi dave,
yes i know him.he isn’t? related as far as i am aware dave.here’s a shot i took of a 400 sed. atki with a nicely sheeted load of moss peat.i wish i had moved my car though .
they ran a changeover to litchfield for many years, with sanderson’s from the north east.
this was the only 401 they ever had.
