Hiya Andrew,My eyes have gone crossed reading those pages!!! super stuff all the same, thanks! This shot of JRs new atki and coiler is a cracker! I wonder if it had the ■■■■■■■ 180 engine? and what sort of axle is that, looks like a hub reduction to me?Some of those old names from the past had disappeared by the timeI was running into S.Wales.We only ever tipped Signode heavy strapping in the Abbey into the various bays and never reloaded there. We always loaded tin plate out of Neath MB or Velindre or Trostre.Gynne Bowen was our main source but occaisionally it was Trevor Phillips of Cadoxton.Regards Dennis.

Couldn’t resist putting this shot on Andrew! how would you like this 20 ton of pig iron tipping in your workshop doorway? I still have a lump of Workington pig which we use as a door stop.I and a driver once loaded two 40footers with p/iron for the Ford foundry in Dagenham and we ran down through the Lakes to Milnthorpe where we were met with accusations via a phone call from Grahams, who we’d subbed off, that there was P/iron on every corner through the lakes and we were the only flats loaded that day so it must be off our flats! You will have guessed that the standards of operation we had there was no chance it was us(which it wasn’t but they wouldn’t have it!) I even offered to weigh them both off at the local Quarry! However, half an hour later we got a very sheepish call to say that it had been one of Walter Carefoots tippers with an un-fastened tail gate! pig iron on an ali floor is like a skating rink,I think he lost 2 ton off the tipper. The Police mini vans were dragging their (ZB) on the ground collecting the evidence! Our trailers were sheeted down like drums,a flea couldn’t get out from under!! Cheers Dennis.

I’ve dug this shot out of one of our trailers loaded with 20 ton of Workington Pig Iron standing in the depot at Milnthorpe. The fly sheets on the load are life expired and not,of course, our good sheets!Dennis.

Hi Graham, thanks for that, you are right I do remember now it was Boyles thankyou. Cheers Steve

Nice photos there smallcoal. Where are Clarks based?
The wheelbase on the Transcon being so short, almost gives the impression it would topple over if the brakes were hit hard whilst bobtailing.
